Also I haven't played ff7 in 15 years or so and I don't remember any of this Gi subplot, is this new or was this in the original? In the cave they mentioned coming from another planet so I'm guessing they're related to Jenova?

Entirely new, in the original game they're just regular ghosts, you beat Gi Nattak, see Seto and that's it. I dont recall the original game mentioning black materia's origin either but the original game never addressed materia origin outside of naturally occurring from the planet or for huge materia, the reactor process. I guess the implication in Rebirth is the Gi tribe are aliens? But yeah, I also liked it as a good addition.

Midgar 7th infantry showing in the raid on Midgar feels like a likely outcome? But if they're still stationed in Junon they could be part of the escape sequence, though their loyalty is to Cloud who isnt around then so I'm thinking just Raid on Midgar for them...

Original game had 5 weapons, Emerald Ruby Ultimate were optional (and brief Ultimate storyline fight), Diamond regular boss. "Sapphire" (unnamed in game) is the 5th but you dont fight it.

Nibel chocobo really is the greatest, oh man. Wayyyy to much joy just cruising around on a stream of water. Jade in Before Crisis and Omega in DoC but wouldnt expect either to appear. So yeah, opportunity for new Weapons... picturing one emerging from the lava in the Da Chao statue, mmmm!

Reminder that the original game ended in an inconclusive way re: fate of humanity, at least until Advent Children came out. So I wouldnt be surprised if part 3 ends the same way the original game did (lifestream vs meteor, Red 500 yrs later), but I just hope for a narratively-satisfying conclusion to this, damn... you can wrap things up KH3-style while leaving the door/some plotlines open for a 4th part, be it AC or DoC or something new.

There are quite a few new areas too, aren't there? Underwater, Rocket Town, Wutai, Wutai, Mideel, Northern Continent. Along with the optional areas. Not to mention the return to Midgar.

Yeah if they stick with world intel and wanted all-new zones then Icicle Inn, Wutai, Mideel, Rocket Town would cover 4. Rocket Town would be the weakest though, like Gongaga... also I hadn't considered Underwater but they could do something like "Meridian Ocean" in this go-around as connecting points for the underwater items to cover.

Weapon questlines makes sense, Ultimate Weapon flying around the world also could make his multiregional. I was thinking 1 weapon per region (like the summons) but that just doesnt fit thematically, unless they want to rearrange who's where & also introduce a bunch more.

I would take a 2027 release for sure, but I'm still expecting 2028.

Gongaga area theme was a banger at least! Which I suppose is still only 3rd best next to direct-main-theme Grasslands and Nibel...

I guess they needed the Tifa lifestream dive to introduce the warring whisper factions, but yeah... takes a chunk out of the Mideel segment in next game? Though assume they will rework that anyhow (probably also including more new stuff/more "worlds" narrative dumping)

No definition, but for me it just doesnt "feel" like a board game. Completely subjective but when I think of a board game I draw on my own experiences and more specifically, am probably biased towards thinking of board games as group activities.

So would rather elevate those kinds of games to Rushmore status vs. something limited to a 1-on-1 match, even if it is a game played on a board.

dude, what were they THINKING with this one. I forget how I eventually got past it, if it was Magnifyra or ATB Boost-Magnifyga and 1x or 2x, I remember some physical cleanup of the stragglers but damn. Anyone who runs into that and doesn't insta Game Over on their first attempt, I would be so shocked.

Personally I didn't have any issue with normal Rufus (didn't play Dynamic though), but I was watching a streamer try to fight him in hard mode and having a ridiculously hard time. looked like virtually no pressure time to work with and hitting the Braver-Stagger felt like it needed pinpoint accuracy. like you needed to predict when he's going to reload and Braver before he even does it, lol.

I actually got really lucky with the YinYang fight somehow but I'm terrified I won't be as fortunate next time. What really chewed me up and spit me out were the Adjudicator fights and I imagine they're even worse in hard mode.

oh man... was getting a little cocky since I was clearing the past few hard mode bosses w/o issues (just finished Corel's) but yeah, am not looking forward to the Gi Nattak fight at all. probably #3 next to Rufus and leaps and bounds in first place, Cait Sith vs. YinYang. Hoo boy.

ADDED difficulty for those minigames? good lord...

btw if anyone doesn't know, there's a glitch (at least I think it's a glitch) where sitting on cushions still restore your MP in Hard Mode. Just waiting (fearing) for a patch to patch that out!!

I was watching someone play yesterday and they were using sleep pretty often in those combat trials where you're getting spammed by lots of enemies. Your allies won't attack sleeping enemies so it looked pretty useful.

Yeah I just got through mine with Stop spamming on the last guy (well, one of the last guys), whew. What a relief. Still more to go including allegedly the most difficult but yeah going to put those off until the very end.

Maybe the Yuffie plasma build would yield better results. Set a teammate up with synergy+heal so you get constant healing? I haven't tried it myself yet so not sure how effective it would be.

....is Synergy+Heal a thing, I thought it was just certain attack magic and the synergy attack is against whatever enemy you used your technique against??? going to investigate this but I like the idea of free heals...

starting to panic a little because I just spent (wasted) the past 5 hours trying to get through a brutal challenge with nothing to show for it. Only made it to the last round one time... and it's not even the toughest of the challenges!!!

Kind of panicking a little because I never had anywhere near this trouble in Remake and my team is maxed out, my materia loadout is optimal, feels like the only solution is to git gud. not great, not great at all.

Well, going to give it another dozen or two cracks tomorrow and if I can't then it'll wait until after I've completed all other platinum requirements I guess.

I was just watching a youtube video on recommended build for getting past it, and it basically boiled down to "make perfect blocks almost every chance you get"

I don't think I've made a perfect block on purpose and I'm passing 160 hours, guess I need to start practice trying... been putting off the brutal and legendary combat sims while cleaning up some other platinum-required items but yeah, almost done, gonna have to get rolling on them.

I need the OST to get released badly, I've been scouring youtube the past couple of days and throwing any alleged tracks on a Rebirth playlist, now need to listen to them to filter out the lower-quality-sounding ones.

Like the good news is I stumbled on a (to my ears) perfect-quality final battle song sequence that runs like 32 minutes, but on the downside more than one lower-quality Mt. Corel track, damn. And also can't find a better sounding version of the Kyrie battle theme than the one I posted. I guess we're 2 to 6 weeks away from official release if "April 2024" gets adhered to...

Also of concern is that they don't include a ton of songs and stash them for a "Plus" or "OST part 2" release some months down the line, Remake Plus came out December 2020 and Rebirth just has so many new tracks, even if they do still reuse a bunch from Remake.

I also really need the chill version of the Turks Theme that plays on the colosseum when you're menuing before their fight & someone has to loop it to last 60+ minutes. I'm this close to chapter selecting my way back there and just leaving my PS5 on and listening to it in the background, lol

this too, maybe "mediocre" is too harsh but I replayed Remake and Intermission right before Rebirth released and yeah. going to be hard to ever replay that when the superior Rebirth is right there (though I'm sure I will in 3-4 years before Part 3 releases)
