Was talking to a former colleague here. He's an older guy, republican, but anti-trump and actually becoming more of a democrat lately. He's on the "inside" with alot of the older and middle age guys at work. Basically told me stories and quotes from every single one of em, exposing how racist pretty much everyone is.

I'm a young guy from california. I'm a simple, old-school type of guy so I get along with all these guys, but at the end of the day I clearly am not "one of them".

It just blows my mind away that literally every single one of these guys above the age of 50 have done and said racist things. This whole environment in the south is such garbage. I don't get how moderate or leftist can live here long-term.

This might be one of the better explanations. Over half a million people died. We're trending in the right direction though as far as jobs go.

Interesting graph I was looking at:
Unemployment rate before covid for bachelors degree: 1.9
Unemployment rate now for bachelors degree: 2.8
Unemployment rate peak for bachelors degree: 8

Unemployment rate before covid for HS degree: 3.5
Unemployment rate now for HS degree: 6.0
Unemployment rate peak for HS degree: 17.3

If you have a bachelors degree, you're much better of than without.
But "college is useless" and a waste of money per CE.
The numbers for associates degree sit somewhere in between bachelors and HS.

It's a bit more complicated than that. I would say there are at least four classes in capitalism:

You have workers, but then you also have managers and supervisors. They work, but they also have power over other workers (i.e. firing). Then you have the "small business" owners, where they own the business and property and have employees, but actually put in work themselves. Finally, you have the big capitalists, the ones who own the businesses and property, don't put in their labor, yet reap the benefits.

This is a lower class mindset.

The highest percentage of "Definitely not getting vaccinated" is people making <24,999. As income goes up, less and less people are "definitely not getting vaccinated". As income goes up, people are less hesitant and more vaccinated.

The trend also correlates with education.

Yup, any reasonable person when laid off would have been looking for a new job. People had plenty of time to do that. I know at least 3 people who got laid off when covid started. It was devastating because they needed the benefits for their kids. These are average earning workers with a bachelors degree. They aggressively looked for jobs and got them. This is before the vaccine and before practically every place is hiring.

Yep, unemployment rates did not change at all when a bunch of red states cut off the extra federal unemployment money. 700k people exited the work force via COVID and thousands are hospitalized with that number growing rsther than shrinking in most places.

Workers in food service and retail bore the brunt of COVID deaths. Only to continue to be treated poorly by both their employers and the customers they served. They are leaving in droves and I don't blame them. They don't exist to serve you. Either support raising wages or accept waiting for 20 minutes to get your McNuggets or in line at the checkout of your local grocery store. Or you can start growing and cooking your own food. Your society cannot function without these people. Time to treat them with respect.

Maybe they should get the vaccine and stop being dumb.

Washington did alot of things that people thought were monarchical but that was partly because there was no precedent on how things should be done. But one of the factors that people did consider when electing him was that he had no children of his own. He raised nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, but none of his own. So if he was to go rogue and try to grab power, there would be no one to pass it on to.

Adams on the other hand wanted people to call him "your highness" and he got shit on for that.

But for how popular Washington was, if he played his cards right he absolutely could have become king. He didn't even want to run for a second term cuz he was tired of all the bullshit and part of him wanted a simple life just working on his farm. Dude was like, fine fuck it, I'll do another term, and got elected unanimously...despite the fact that the press was overwhelmingly negative against him - controlled by Jefferson and Madison.

But because there were so many powerful figures who were all relatively on the same page as far as government structure, who were deeply passionate about that, I doubt washington's "reign" could have gone on too long. I think he died approximately a decade after he first took office. And he wanted minimal involvement in foreign affairs. I honestly doubt he would've done anything different as King. Its really not as "intriguing" as you may think. He still relied on his cabinet heavily. He was not known to be a quick and decisive person. He was known to be someone who would contemplate things for a while. That was actually his main critique as a general in the war.
