All of the Pokemon Sun exclusives have managed to beat out their Pokemon Moon counterparts, with the only undecided battle being Lunala/Solgaleo. I really hope Lunala gives Pokemon Moon at least one victory in the battle of the version exclusives.

If you had submitted a list for this project, you could have made Brionne finish up to 4 places higher than its actual spot in these rankings. It would have been impossible for your list to put Brionne any higher than 84th in the overall rankings.

Also, Primarina got revealed earlier today (at 32 overall), which was much better than I was expecting.

In non-Tebow news, I started thinking about my All Star Game roster predictions. I remember I did surprisingly well in my first attempt last season, so I wanted to try again. However, it's looking a bit tougher this year. Pitchers overall are less impressive, as offense has increased, but offense has increased across the board so it feels like there are less standouts among position players. Also, there are two less roster spots this year, so it could be a bit more of a crunch, but I haven't even gotten that far yet. Fortunately, assuming Ozuna holds off Heyward, the fan vote isn't generating anything super egregious.

You should try to predict the Phillies All-Star Game representative. Due to the rules of the All-Star Game, every team needs to have at least one representative.

For the Phillies, the most likely candidate is Pat Neshek, but Aaron Altherr is also a possible option. Depending on what type of player Joe Maddon needs for his NL roster probably determines which one gets selected.

This reminds me of a user called "Skyridge87" who posted a topic near the end of last year titled "Primarina is my husbando". I found it a bit odd that he has an obsession for male Primarina, since the appeal of Primarina comes from its feminine appearance. When I played through Pokemon Sun/Moon, I made sure that I got a female Popplio for my starter.

The gender ratio is a bit messed up though, since the game has Primarina as 88.1% Male. I know this is just Game Freak maintaining a tradition that's been in place for all of the starters, but they did introduce Chikorita in the same generation where gender first appeared in the series. Chikorita's entire line is feminine as well and it still got majority Male gender ratio in the same generation that introduced gender.

For me, feminine pokemon are pretty hit-or-miss. Lilligant and Ninetales are amazing, Diancie/Magearna/Milotic are all legit, Steenee is adorable (too bad its evolution is a disaster).

But it's really easy for feminine pokemon to go overboard and look trashy/creepy/ugly. Lopunny, the goth girls, Meloetta, Florges, Primarina, Tsareena are all "kill it with fire" tier.

Steenee is great and I do think the evolution is a step back (since it's less cute than Steenee), but it's not enough to place Tsareena low on my list. I still had Tsareena at 31 on my list even with some design flaws.

Okay, I'll agree the goth girls aren't that great to begin with (Gothita is trash, but Gothorita and Gothitelle are much better). Lopunny is a better than average Pokemon for me.

Florges looks a bit weird with that face it has, and it's also one of the only cases where I have the final evolution last in a 3 stage line (Flabébé and Floette are much better). I love Meloetta, though.

Poll updates and trend charts from yesterday's poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CNcfj7wlvQAFDv523aduPQNJrjkgDmvOslUPqxjFp3g/pub?gid=4

Coke's worst time period was the Power Hour and performs best during the ASV. Overall, this was the most consistent option of the major options in this poll.

Cola has much more pronounced trends than Coke. It has a god awful board vote and SNV, and a bad Power Hour. The best time period was the night vote and morning vote.

Fizzy Drink has an awful board vote, Power Hour, and SNV. The night vote and morning vote was the best time period, and the ASV was below average.

Pop has a below average board vote and Power Hour and a bad night vote. It has a good morning vote and ASV, while the SNV was the best time period. Pop's percentage maxed out at 18.52% (12:50 AM), losing a total of 2.30% after that point to reach its minimum percentage of 16.22% at 5:35 AM. Then it gains a total of 2.46% over the rest of the poll to finish with a final percentage of 18.68%.

Soda performs best during the board vote and Power Hour. Once the night vote starts, Soda begins losing strength over the course of the night vote until it hits rock bottom during the dead zone (4:00-6:00 AM). Soda begins to recover from the awful night vote when the morning vote kicks in. Soda has a good morning vote and ASV, but even that was only slightly above average relative to the final percentage. Compared to the morning vote and early ASV, Soda does perform better during the last 5 hours of the poll due to Europe going to sleep. Even then, the SNV couldn't quite match up to the really strong Power Hour. Soda lost a huge amount of percentage in this poll, going from 58.58% at 12:10 AM to 46.13% at 9:55 AM (a loss of 12.45%). From 9:55 AM where Soda had 46.13%, it gained a total of 1.76% to finish with a final percentage of 47.89%.

Soft Drink performs best during the board vote, Power Hour, night vote, and early morning vote. It performs worst during the morning vote and ASV. These trends are heavily influenced by the voting preferences of Australia and New Zealand, which means Soft Drink is able to perform slightly better during the SNV (vs. ASV) as these voters get a second chance to vote in this poll if they haven't already voted.

Other performs worst during the board vote, Power Hour, ASV, and SNV. It performs best during the night vote and morning vote.

Over the history of this poll, I've noticed that Soda's percentage has increased in every single poll it's been in. This change has come from Soda's US percentage increasing at the same time. History of Soda's US percentage - 7/20/2009 - 55.59%, 4/29/2010 - 57.06%, 5/7/2012 - 60.10%, 6/26/2017 - 65.51%

A similar trend exists in Canada, but for Pop instead and increasing at a much slower rate compared to Soda for the US. History of Canada's Pop percentage - 7/20/2009 - 55.30%, 4/29/2010 - 55.86%, 5/7/2012 - 57.45%, 6/26/2017 - 58.98%

In the 2017 soda poll, Soda had a US percentage of 73.84% when the poll maps first went live shortly after 12:13 AM (when the poll reached 500 votes). This percentage decreased to 69.63% at 1:00 AM, 68.81% at 6:00 AM, and 66.37% at 12:00 PM. The final US percentage was 65.51%. We already know from the age polls that the early voters have the youngest voters on average and the morning vote has the oldest voters on average. Soda's US percentage over the course of the poll suggests that younger voters are more biased towards Soda while older voters are less likely to favor Soda here.

Here's something I would have liked to point out in my Tapu Lele write-up, but decided against doing:

http://www.pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-us/pokemon/tapu-lele/
Tapu Lele scatters glowing scales that physically affect others—providing stimulation to their bodies and healing their illnesses or injuries. But these scales can be dangerous as well, because a body can’t withstand the changes brought about by contact with too many scales at the same time. It will scatter its scales over humans and Pokémon for its own enjoyment; while it is innocent in one sense, there is also cruelty in the way it casually brings others to ruin.

This is very hilarious. Tapu Lele is capable of drugging people.

Poll updates and trend charts from the past 2 days:

Wake Up Poll - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DP51bo59vlY5c_W2LCtpWi6D7Yre7o4QwKjmAH0pbfY/pub?gid=4
Bedtime Poll - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SvhBLOhp9whj9c5ijd9oQ5_NCvDSKBLNqmntEDNFBhs/pub?gid=4

Trends were fairly expected here. Most of the options perform best in their own separate hour, but there are some hours where 2 or more options perform best.

I created these images which compare the trends from the 2017 poll to the same version of the poll which happened back in 2014.

Wake Up Poll Trend Comparison - CJIwqPj
Bedtime Poll Trend Comparison - ArfYMho

Both of the 2017 polls happened on a weekend, while the 2014 polls happened on a weekday. The best hour for each option is highlighted in orange.

I compared the trends between both versions of the poll by using the hourly trends to calculate the difference between the best hour and worst hour for every single option.

In the first image (the Wake Up Poll), we can see that the trends were more extreme in the 2014 poll which happened on a weekday compared to the 2017 poll which happened on the weekend. 7 out of the 10 options had more extreme trends in weekday poll. Before 5:00 AM, 10:00-10:59 AM, and 11:00-11:59 AM showed more extreme trends in a weekend poll. The weekend poll had much more diluted trends than the weekday poll, but they were still present in the weekend poll to some extent.

However, the second image (the Bedtime Poll) was much different and showed similar trends regardless if the poll happened on a weekday or a weekend. It seems like the Wake Up Poll is far more interesting than the Bedtime Poll in terms of trends.

The final thing I tried to do was compare the 2012 Wake Up Poll (a Sunday Poll) to the 2017 Wake Up Poll (a Saturday Poll) to see if the 2 separate "weekend" days have any noticeable differences in trends. This image compares the difference between a Sunday Poll and a Saturday Poll:

RmjrGoD

To my surprise, trends were more extreme in the Saturday Poll than the Sunday Poll. Despite both Saturday and Sunday being "weekend" days, there were differences in their trends. Poll trends are most extreme in weekday polls, followed by Saturday polls second, while Sunday polls have the least extreme trends.

If Guzzlord had been intended as a regular Pokemon instead of an Ultra Beast, I would have had it even lower on my list. But I gave Game Freak some leniency here considering what they were trying to do with the Ultra Beasts (depicting them as creatures from another dimension).

Luster Soldier: Despite the strong resemblance of this design to the character Guzma, this was not done intentionally.

Keep telling yourself that.

Some of the Ultra Beasts don't seem to resemble characters from the game, such as Celesteela and Buzzwole, so the fan theory kind of falls apart here.

Type: Null and Crabrawler outlasting their evolutions is a travesty.

I'm actually surprised you had Silvally fairly high on your list considering it's considered a legendary, at least in the game code. There are 2 different classifications of "legendary" in the game code. These images came from someone who datamined the full game when it got leaked to the internet:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CxfFzRrVQAAiT3a.jpg
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CxfDqURVIAA1ziG.jpg

The second image shows a list of the lesser legendaries in a category of Pokemon called "sublegends" and you can see Type: Null and Silvally on that list. However, I bet fewer people would consider both of them to be legendary compared to the Ultra Beasts.

wait what how is Silvally lower than Type: Null

The designs are overall quite similar, with Type: Null only losing its helmet when it evolves. So I guess most people had them very close to each other on their list and maybe Type: Null had slightly more people who preferred it over Silvally.

If Type: Null appears in the next 1 or 2 Pokemon reveals, my theory probably makes sense here.

Although I wonder if it would have mattered a lot more if PRBL happened before this ranking project.

def would have made a difference for me

Only way to put that theory to the test is for the Gen VIII ranking project to happen after one season of PRBL has already taken place.

I was worried Pheromosa's competitive prowess was going to get it a high spot. Luckily I was wrong.

Competitive viability hasn't seemed to matter much at all. Magearna did much worse in these rankings than Pheromosa.

Although I wonder if it would have mattered a lot more if PRBL happened before this ranking project.

Ermine: A shame all of the Tapus are awful except for Koko.

Oh no, Ermine. Tapu Bulu is the most masculine looking Tapu, so I thought that would be worth something to the people that usually hate feminine looking Pokemon. The masculine appearance was the only thing that even gave Tapu Bulu any chance of finishing above Tapu Lele or Tapu Fini.

The quotation marks at the beginning and end of the write-up resulted from Drak's write-up featuring a line break and would have been produced when copying the write-up from the spreadsheet into the post message area. I'm guessing Steiner forgot to remove the quotation marks at the beginning and end of the write-up.

All I know that is you have very poor compatibility with me. I'm almost at the bottom of your compatibility rankings. Well, there's still Cutiefly/Ribombee/Rockruff as some of the few Pokemon that we do seem to agree on, and they haven't been revealed yet.
