The idea of crafting was fun you basically had to do it to get good weapons but it became a pain in the ass when forced to do so for quests. Building that stupid generator towards the end was just unnecessary.

The signal interceptor? That's about halfway through the game, not near the end. Plus that's the only thing you're forced to build for a quest unless you go the Brotherhood route, in which case you also build something else later. Hardly an issue even if you disliked crafting.

The whole power armor vehicle deal was to appease fans of other crowds. We clearly dont need that. They should have kept closer to the formula.

I'm as big a Fallout fan as they come and it appeased me no end. It was a massive improvement and made you finally feel like you were wearing a suit of power armour rather than just another skin with better numbers. The only criticism I have which was posted earlier is that it was a bit of a misstep giving you a suit so early and making a set piece out of the deathclaw.

If you play through, expect to spend roughly three hours at loading screens, total. They designed the map too big and with too many useless areas. One-room cafes with a floor safe and some irradiated food. Yeah, that s*** just causes the game to slow and doesnt need to be there.

Fallout 3 has absolutely massive areas. For example, a museum in Fallout 3 will be four times the size of one in Fallout 4. Fallout 3 has a charm that they failed to replicate.

Loading isn't noticeably worse than any other open world game and I've played FO4 on both PC and PS4. And I think you've got nostalgia glasses on for your other point there; all Fallout games have plenty of "pointless" areas which are only there for diversion and atmosphere, plus there's plenty of big buildings to explore (Corvega Assembly Plant and the Boston Public Library off the top of my head).

Enjoyed it the first time around, really enjoyed it the second time with the DLC, can't ever play it again. I tried after a thread was posted here about the game a month or two ago and gave up before the Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts mission. The combat is a slog and the side/collection quests - while I acknowledge the usual counter argument - are a big negative. The game just feels like a chore at this point but I guess I got two playthroughs out of it before I got to this point so I shouldn't complain too much.

Also, a lot of mage clothes look terrible, which is hard to stomach early on.

Forgot to say, I feel like there's a lack of good variety for any of the classes. I've got the most experience with rogues and I feel like there's two armour sets in the whole game; short coat or slightly longer coat.

I do wish there were more large enemies to fight. The trailer made it seem like it was a big focus but most enemies are just small fry.

This quickly became one of the bigger turn-offs towards the end for me. Constantly fighting bandits and wolves, goblins, harpies etc... gets real boring once you're used to cutting down Cyclops', Chimaeras, Gryphons and the like.

It does not help that all the spawns are static, so you're not only fighting the same enemies but they're all in the same places. Makes the lengthy on-foot traveling even more tedious.

Great game overall though and a well-handled sequel could easily perfect it.

Agreed. Doesn't help that like 90% of the big enemies are cyclops. There's not much variety.

The static spawns do suck.

The enemy spawns are changed for the last act of the game, with upgraded versions of small creatures coming in and dragons getting fixed spawn points all over the map. You'll also see enemies like gorechimeras and cockatrices, as well as gaining access to a special dungeon that is full of interesting fights.

And to be honest, after a certain point in the game I wouldn't bother fighting small mobs as you can run past them far more easily and the XP gain is minimal. The only exception I usually make are harpies as they tend to spawn around cliffs and having them carry someone off is really quite dangerous!

Cool, I heard it was a good followup to Black Flag, but didn't wanna bother with a last gen game.

It was more of a prequel to 3 than a followup to Black Flag.

hmmm, interesting. I thought it was heavily boat focused tho, like Black Flag in the Colonys. Admittedly I did zero research on it because I assumed it was an afterthought using old assets to make some easy money from the hungry last geners who hadn't upgraded.

It was very boat focused, but the story is all about how the Assassins and Achilles got into the state they were in by 3.

This. Still a lot of focus on naval combat and exploration, but in a smaller area than Black Flag (and also in the North Atlantic). Really good game; made Unity fairly disappointing as Rogue was the last game I played on my 360 before packing it away for the next gen.

Speaking of the pantaloons, don't they do something in the Throne of Bhaal expansion?

Why yes, you also have to collect the Silver Pantaloons from Shadows of Amn and the Bronze Pantalettes from Throne of Bhaal, then take them to the appropriate person to get a purposely overpowered item

Good memory!

You also won't miss much story by playing Shadows of Amn first; the major plot point from the first game is covered pretty much immediately and nothing else is carried over (there's no choice/consequence aspect to importing your character from what I remember, it's purely your character's level).

I mean, you do get to carry some items over and you get stat increases carried over if you used tomes on the main PC, but all the items are soon replaced with better so eh. >.> Only real one is the pantaloons, and not sure that is more than a joke item at the end :P

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking more along the lines of story or character consequences but you do get some advantages for importing a character. I only ever did it once that I remember but I never felt weak or disadvantaged for starting with a fresh character.

Speaking of the pantaloons, don't they do something in the Throne of Bhaal expansion? Something to do with a golem?

Baldur's Gate 2 is a fantastic, fantastic game that massively improved on the first (itself still very good). It deserved almost every bit of praise it received although it's obviously showing its age these days. Still well worth playing.

Nothing present day. It retcons several things to do with how the brotherhood started. I can go further in depth if you'd like.

Yeah, please! I completed the game (platinum trophy and all) a few days ago but I can't remember noticing anything while I played.

Watch Dogs is such an odd game. It doesn't really know what it wants to be. Are you a vigilante or a criminal? Well in WD you're both. Aiden barely makes sense as a character. It's not a terrible game (I quite like the hacking stuff) but it feels like a game that is trying to be too many different things instead of focusing on one. It's a diluted and bland experience.

WD2 apparently fixes this and is more focused with your motivations and also seems to have a unique personality.

WD2 was far worse in that regard, to be honest. I really couldn't buy into a group of quirky, oddball hacker types breaking into corporate offices and murdering security guards. At least Aiden had an appropriate back story to excuse/justify his methods. How Marcus and the rest of them go from peaceful protests via graffiti and t-shirt designs to mass homicide caused a complete disconnect for me.

After some discussion, we determined that this post could have been taken several ways, so it has been reduced to a one-month ban.

While its true South Park has made a lot of trans jokes I dont think its disproportionate to other offensive jokes like say Jewish or Black people. If you have self esteem or mental issues you should not be anywhere near anything South Park related because it can be quite hurtful.

War in the North was fucking great, especially as a co-op game.

From what I recall, it takes places during the events of LotR, but in different parts of Middle-Earth. You play as new characters, but cross paths with some of the main characters and kind of indirectly help them win.

Came in to the topic to suggest this; War in the North was great fun. Did a couple of playthroughs with two friends, swapping characters each time. The levels are quite linear though and the only real exploring you do is to locate little secret side areas, so I don't know if it's exactly what the TC is looking for.

I feel like there was a PS2 era RPG that played similar to final fantasy X. But can't remember enough about it to know if it fits what you wanted.

War in the North I believe.

I doubt it's War in the North; it was a 360/PS3 game and it plays nothing like FFX.

It's great. Absolutely one of my favourite games from last gen, quirks and all. It's pretty huge too and there's a good story to dig in to, particularly since the Dark Arisen stuff is included. Well worth the price, especially if you haven't played it before.

I can play Baldurs Gate fine (which came out around similar times I think?) so to me it just feels fallout has dated terribly sadly :/

Did you play Baldur's Gate when it came out?

Yup. I mean, that is pretty dated as well. But it didnt feel nearly as bad as Fallout. But the fact I played it at the time could be why I can tolerate it >.>

Haha, that's probably it. Neither game's aged well graphics/UI wise but that's the kind of thing you can overlook if you've already got fond memories from playing it originally, I think.
