DRV3 Case 2 beated! Well, I was right that the killer would be the person who got their actual motive video, and what a motive it was! It's sad that we lost two interesting characters in the same case, but that's how it goes sometimes. I felt pretty bad for Ryoma when we found out he didn't have anyone he cared about, and that's why he was willing to let Kirumi kill him. I was also right that Maki was hiding her Ultimate talent, as Kokichi reveals she's actually the Ultimate Assassin. It does beg the question of how he knew, unless he watched all the motive videos when he collected them, despite saying he didn't. There's no reason to believe he told the truth, of course.

I wouldn't say Seattle beat them soundly, although Detroit's defense was beyond dreadful in that game.

But yeah, like I said before, Detroit getting in wouldn't have mattered because they would've gotten rocked by the 49ers.

Of course, right after I post that, Maki reveals she met Ryoma during night time, meaning (if she's telling the truth) the killer couldn't have snuck him into the gym before morning. Which would make the prime suspects Himiko and Angie, since they were the first two at the gym and nobody could've entered before them.

In the DRV3 Case 2 class trial, it looks like we've narrowed the list of suspects down to Maki and Kaito. Is this game going for ultimate punishment and making the culprit of every case the person Shuichi gets closest to? If that's the case, then the culprit is Kaito. The Ultimate Astronaut seems tailor-made for a Danganronpa style execution, too. However, Shuichi had Kaito's motive video, so he shouldn't have been able to see it...unless when Monodam redistributed the motive videos, he gave them to the right people. Nobody we saw or talked to mentioned looking at the videos after they were given back, but that doesn't mean no one at all did. I still think Maki is the most suspicious, but maybe there's a reason for it besides her being the killer.

also Kokichi continues to be the star of these trials

I'd probably agree with you, but they probably still get bodied by the Niners if they get in instead of Seattle. That SF offense would've eaten their defense alive.

Oh right, we watched Empire Strikes Back last night. This is exactly what the middle part of a trilogy should be. It's great that the bad guys have the good guys on the ropes the entire time, and the only victories the good guys win are pyrrhic ones. It really helps to establish the strength of the villains.

Also, the lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader seems really basic in the sense that you don't have any fancy moves involved, but at the same time, it manages to feel intense and visceral.

And now we've arrived at our second Deadly Life of DRV3. Once again, the victim is someone I thought still had more to offer in Ryoma. His skull is fractured and he was in shackles, so I'm guessing he was already dead before the piranhas got him. I wonder if he was in the box with the piranhas to begin with, which is how he got into the water without anyone noticing, but it wouldn't explain why they didn't eat him before they dropped into the tank.

yeah but Jimmy G isn't that good, they would've gotten rid of him if they had any takers

it's possible Lance isn't good either, but there's no way to know that yet so I don't think this qualifies as a sunk cost fallacy like with the Jets who absolutely have to move on from Zach Wilson

I guess you can keep rolling with Purdy if you think he's a big reason why they're 8-0

or it's possible he's 8-0 because the defense is so good that he hasn't had to be a reason why they win

In DRV3, the group regains some more of their memories, and we learn about the Ultimate Hunt. Interesting that only Rantaro seemed to remember it before now, but this would explain why they were all just "normal" students at the very beginning. I wonder if the Ultimate Hunt was trying to protect them from Monokuma's killing game, and we're going to find out that it was Makoto's organization behind it or something (the Future Foundation, right?).

Also, I'm going to laugh if Kokichi turns out to be the mastermind, but because he was flat out telling us he was the Ultimate Supreme Leader while also lying left and right, nobody believes him. It's the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" gambit, let's see if it pays off for him.

Every now and then, I get an urge to make a list (probably now because transience is making his annual games list). Sometimes I think I should make a non-video game list, but I don't know that there's a lot of stuff I have enough familiarity with to make a competent list. Even with something like Star Wars, I've really only watched the movies and the Disney Plus shows. I don't know much about any of the books or cartoons. The lore of Lord of the Rings is super deep and I haven't invested that kind of time into it.

I'm not really knowledgeable enough about music to talk intelligently about it, and there aren't a lot of bands I'm familiar enough with to talk at length about their body of work, other than maybe the Goo Goo Dolls, since I was obsessed with them in high school and college (and I've barely listened to any of the stuff they've put out since Gutterflower, so that's a huge gap of stuff I know little about anyway). I guess I could talk about a video game soundtrack or something, but again, I can't discuss anything specific about music, so I wouldn't be able to give any sort of insight into why a song is good. I don't think it'd be interesting to read.

I guess I could talk about Friends since it's probably the TV show I've watched more than any other (I've often got reruns in the background at night when I'm browsing the board if I'm not playing a game), but I don't know if most people would care about that since a lot of people don't like it or never watched it. Same thing with something like Frasier, which I've almost never seen anyone else on this board talk about. I could probably talk about Scrubs, too, I guess, which is actually a popular show here (or was at one point).

Maybe I should just stick to video games.
