I think its 2 but The Big Shell is kind of a lame environment. 3s forests are much better but I dont like camo or food too much.

Yeah, I think this is my take on it. Big Shell feels way too sterile and same-y, but the layout is really good for stealth gameplay. I love the jungle setting in MGS3, but I think it was just a little too open and too easy when it comes to stealth.

It's just weird that nobody acknowledged in-game that Liquid was way off base

I thought it was more the idea that Liquid had been lied to about being the inferior one to motivate him, but I guess that could be it, too.

It still seems kind of lame to boil down a villain's motivation to a misunderstanding of basic science regardless.

If you consider Ray in AAI2 as a sidekick, he doesn't either. And if you're counting Rayfa, you should count him.

And Apollo is a sidekick a couple times, too, technically.

The opening is strong. Phoenix busting into the courtroom to save Ahlbi, only to find that this court is unlike anything he's ever seen, Gaspen as the Chief Prosecutor, and Ahlbi rejecting his help are all great.

But after that...man, this case drags. It has no business being three hours long with how basic it is. Andistan'dhin and his gimmick wears thin fast, especially because it makes everything just take longer than it should. I did not enjoy this one when I replayed it in the Apollo Justice Trilogy a couple months ago.

In the sense that it was just the standard explanation for everything, I agree, especially since it's being used to explain away seemingly supernatural things in a series where supernatural phenomena clearly exist.

But like if you have miracle nanomachines, then it should be fine to have genetics where they can actually control your genes.

And if the explanation was really meant to be "Liquid is bad at genetics," then why doesn't resident geneticist Naomi Hunter ever say, "by the way, that's not how genes work?" Instead, the moral of the story is that you aren't defined by your genes.

I'm barely into the Nibel Region and it already might be my favorite one. Don't know what it is, but it just feels open and easy to move around in, so it seems free roaming compared to Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon!

This is a tough one to rate. Despite its flaws, I generally stay entertained most of the time, so I'm going to give it a good score. It's a bummer that Barnham has no role in the trial at all, but having Layton show up to fill the role of Inquisitor at the end made up for it.

The tricks of how the Storyteller maintained the illusion of magic are absurd, of course, but I guess I have more of a tolerance for it after seeing what some of the solutions for other Layton games are (looking at you in particular, Diabolical Box).

Finished up the Protorelic quest in Cosmo Canyon. Gears and Gambits wasn't too bad, felt like playing FFXII again! Definitely wasn't as frustrating as Fort Condor.

I didn't expect to get to fight Gilgamesh this time, but I wonder if this quest ends with us giving him the Genji back or not. Also, it was nice to get to reminisce about the other members of Avalanche for a little bit.

A legitimate top ten level case. It makes great use of all four main characters, and it's easily the best Espella case because she actually makes a decent assistant when paired with Luke.

The witnesses are all really good, headlined by True Agent of Chaos Emeer Punchenbaug. It's truly a sight to behold how many things he does that confuse the details of the case.

Jean Greyerl is a great "culprit," too. She may have supplanted Acro as the best sympathetic culprit in the series. Her backstory and the circumstances surrounding Belduke's death are heartbreaking, especially when you learn she was all wrong about him and his death was a suicide.

You knew the ending with Maya couldn't be real, but the characters still play it straight to great effect, and I love the Turnabout Sisters music box remix we get out of it. Just such an all-around great case.

Also play Unwound Future if you want the best Layton experience

Honestly my memory on the specifics of the show are pretty fuzzy at this point
