5-6 is my 4th favorite case from this game, which says how stacked DD is and why it's my 2nd favorite game in the series.

Honestly I think Phoenix just got back into law because he misses Edgeworth

Edgeworth doesn't work in the courtroom most of the time now that he's chief prosecutor, and DD does also imply that Phoenix has been helping him behind the scenes while he was disbarred too.

Makes me wonder if Layton/PW actually takes place after he was disbarred and Edgeworth just covers his tracks for him as a favor.

It's fun but also feels kinda hollow. Like, they're making statues of a guy who was a lawyer for three years then disbarred for eight. DD really wants us to pretend that AA4 was just a footnote in Phoenix's illustrious career.

The way PW1 paints the legal system, the fact that Phoenix lost one case in three years should make him a legend!

Like, I realize he didn't specifically return to law to defend an orca, but like, I'm just kinda surprised he came back to law without any particular reason? He got INTO the law profession for very specific reasons which he's already long paid off, but his return to the law profession is like, well, I guess it's my job now, time to defend an orca

The conversation with Edgeworth in the intro seems to suggest that the primary reason Phoenix came back was to help end the Dark Age of the Law by proving Blackquill's innocence.

I'm in a weird position where I think 5-6 is generally overrated but still really good! I love Shipshape Aquarium as a location. Blackquill pulling a Godot at the end of Day 1 was a great homage. I think Crab is a really good witness. Phoenix refusing to accept a guilty verdict for Rimes and continuing the trial just to find the real truth is the most "classic" Phoenix moment in either of the new games.

I do think it's got some weird pacing and structural issues near the end. Rimes has his big villain transformation, and then he...steps aside for a while so we can cross-examine the orca. That's always stood out to me as an odd decision because the transformation usually signals that they've become the sole focus of the trial now, but that wasn't the case with Rimes.

I feel like if aliens think Cars is the peak of our civilization, they'll leave us alone and deem us non-threatening due to low intelligence

There's a reason why DD has the only M rating in the series!

The only mistake the games make in terms of case division is separating the last two cases of GAA2. Those are blatantly the same case and provide an arbitrary distinction between the two. It also gives the player false hope that there's another case coming.

I'm fine with the rest.

I totally forgot to mention how outstanding the Ponco testimony is. It's so unique, and it's fun trying to figure out what it saw.

I think this case is the only time in the series where the twist actually ruined the case for me, as opposed to the twist being one of the coolest parts. It turns a cool new character into a total waste of time.

Huh, I think this is my first time encountering someone who was a fan of Fulbright pre-Phantom.

I think he's such a nothing character without that.

I'll be the 5-5 stan. It's got its problems, but I feel like it gives me the fanservice moments I wanted from an epic case. Phoenix vs. Edgeworth in the ruins of the courtroom is such a great setting. It has some emotional moments, too.

Apollo's role is fairly minimal, but I really love his testimony. Blackquill's cross-examination might be the best court moment in this game. He's a super tough opponent, and the moment he finally breaks with, "Curse you, Phoenix Wright!" is a satisfying moment. It feels like he and the Phantom justified the Mood Matrix's existence.

Speaking of the Phantom, I like him. I think they didn't use him as well as they could have, but the final evidence used to take him down is really good and it's a worthwhile showdown for me.

They dropped a surprise bonus Bluey episode!

I still need to watch season 3!

Honestly think this case gets underrated because of the ending and the structure. Apollo/Blackquill on Day 1 is great. Cosmos is a fantastic lying non-culprit witness. The ending is legitimately shocking, even if it does turn out to be a red herring.

I also love astronomy, so that's probably a bit of my bias showing here...!

This case is just silly and fun. I get why some people don't like it, but I enjoy all the antics from Robin, Hugh, and Myriam. Athena and Apollo are a really good duo. Means is a decent villain.

I also enjoy all the self-referential and deprecating humor, such as the stuff they teach in their school courses, like the proper angle of the arm when pointing.

Once they announced they were canceling all the other planned DLC, I just lost all motivation

Eh, Nahyuta doing his beads thing isn't quite as striking as Blackquill sending Taka after Apollo to interrupt his concentration.

It's also a message to the player that Blackquill isn't the dirty cheater you might expect him to be despite being a convict.

Random Blackquill thought that I may not remember when we get to 5-5 or 6-5:

Blackquill is the only person in the credits of both games he's in who isn't theoretically speaking to the "player" during his scenes. I wonder if they actually had somebody in mind for who he was speaking to, but we may never find out now.

Frasier was a spinoff of Cheers and recently got a reboot

I get there was like a 20 year gap between the two versions of Frasier, but Cheers is the oldest source material of a current show...!

Yeah, I'll need to knock out the FFXVI DLCs once I finish Rebirth.

Blackquill shutting down Apollo's Perceive was great. I think that's when I knew I had to take this dude seriously.

I am basically done with Chapter 9 in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Just finishing up World Intel at this point. Already met Cid, so I know once we get on board the Tiny Bronco, that'll end the chapter.

I really enjoyed all the stuff at the Gongaga Reactor. Tifa getting her own mini Lifestream Dive was cool, and the conversation between her and Cloud afterwards was a really good scene (but I gotta admit, it was kinda weird seeing her without gloves on).

So it looks like we've got two sets of Whispers fighting each other now? One controlled by the Weapons and one controlled by Sephiroth? At least Tifa saw Sephiroth, too, this time, so that's something. She claimed that the Planet's Whispers were winning the fight when Aerith asked her, but I'm not so sure!

It was cool to see Cissnei again, even if the game doesn't really delve into who she is. I liked the scene with Cloud, Aerith, and Zack's parents, too. I guess Tifa and Aerith were waiting for the opportunity to see if Cloud remembered Zack, but no such luck.

Apollo vs. Blackquill is so good. It's a shame we only get another half a case of it. I love locked room mysteries, so it gets points for that, too. Damian Tenma is a fantastic defendant, and the twist at the end of the case is great.
