This is just not true in the US. The US is run by only a couple of ISPs and most of them do cut you off, and some do it the first time temporarily, but you do have to speak to specific departments to lift it during specific times. And then it gets permanent.

Regardless, not sure what point people are getting to by showing how easily they pirate. The average person is not doing any of that shit and it's much easier to pay $10 a month like the other people said.
Ok well I've lived in a few major metropolitan areas run by those few ISPs over my life and I've yet to see it happen. I'm sure there are many more on CE who can attest.

The point is that it was made out to be hard. And it's not hard. That's all. You could argue "downloading a program is hard for the average person" if we want to though.

no it isnt. Its not like the early 2000s where you just have to download kazaa or something.

you have to have a client, a site, a vpn, and knowledge of file types. Its easier to just pay netflix 10 bucks a month for the average person.
Download qBittorrent > Search any movie or tv show you want > download > watch

Doesn't really need to be any more complicated than that. If anything it's easier than it was in the early 2000s Limewire days where half of what you download was abject malware. 99% of the world doesn't need a VPN to torrent and even if you live in a place with an ISP who sends you a mean letter about it they're almost always just posturing. They'd rather not actually lose customers.

I mean, number of citations doesn't really mean anything, especially in smaller fields. If there's a lot it can tell you that it's a well-regarded or commonly-cited paper, but having few citations could just mean it's new or written by a less well-known scholar who might be overshadowed by bigger names in their field.
Of course it's not the end-all-be-all measurement. But there is a reason university departments are so obsessed with their total citations. It's an easy rough measurement to see if anyone else even thinks the research contributed anything else to the conversation. So when an anti-vaxxer sends you some random research paper, with a citation of 0 or a citation of 1 and that other citation is the same author citing themselves, you have good reason to consider it's not really "what the research shows" or "what studies say" or whatever.

Go to Google Scholar, search a paper, see if there's a PDF version you can view. Try that when you can't see something you want to see because of a paywall and you don't have institutional access. Generally it'll also tell you if the paper means anything because you'll see the number of citations.

This isn't directly related, but my biggest pet peeve in discussions about movies is when people think a character behaving suboptimially given the whole story is a plot hole.

"Oh, that character could have just done x y and z at the beginning and there wouldn't have had to be a movie. Plot hole!"
I agree the word plot hole is used in all the wrong contexts but characters behaving extremely stupid to move the plot the right way is lazy writing and can be criticized all the same.

Endgame spoilers I think people had a lot of problems with Marvel's timetravel because they specifically had a scene where Professor Hulk is calling everyone else an idiot for not understanding the weird rules about Marvel's timetravel, which may or may not be contradicted by the Old Man Steve stuff at the end of the same movie and may or may not be contradicted by Loki. And even if it's not necessarily contradicted it's extremely convoluted now.

Just the first Persona Q more than the second. And ailments are super brokenly good and scale with luck too. It's hard to say but likely if you were using Death Penalty and comparing it against Cloud's Ultima Weapon then that's why. Ultima Weapon goes up in strength using Cloud's HP. Death Penalty weirdly goes up in strength based on the number of enemies Vincent has ever killed. Death Penalty has the potential to be absurdly powerful but no non-grinding-obsessed player would ever see it get as strong as the other ultimate weapons.

Cait Sith can one-shot the final boss with his limit. Most people would never see it happen. But he could.

FF7 tier lists are a little pointless since the characters are even more alike than your standard JRPG. Everyone can have their stats maxed. Everyone can equip any materia so anyone can have any skill. The only strict differences between characters are weapons and limits. Not to mention most of us beat the game and the optional bosses when we were stupid kids so it's obviously not a hard enough game it would even matter. But it is still kinda fun to think about.

Oh, HP and MP values differ between characters too. But that's not very important.

On the contrary, any time before 2021 was a good time to buy in retrospect. So in Bitcoin's history, there was a solid good 10 years that were a good time to buy. And the future may show that now is a good time to buy.

Keep calm and stack Sats.
The future may also show that now is a terrible time to buy. That's kind of how investments work. Unless you have a crystal ball, that is. Everything goes up in value, until it doesn't go up in value. Anyone would've told you investing in Enron is a solid idea until it was a disaster.

TopicIs it worth investing if you don't have tons of money to do so?
Kuuko

Kind of. Everyone's first priority should be having a decent fund of money saved up. That's the most important thing to do when someone doesn't make a lot of money. You might be surprised at the stats showing how many Americans couldn't survive missing one or two paychecks. Therefore everyone should have some saved in case an unexpected expense or disaster happens.

But after having that base "emergency fund" saved in a safe place, it's great to invest excess money. Keep in mind, most people would consider a 10% annual growth on an investment quite respectable. The last few years have been mostly better than 10% (which might also have fooled some people into thinking they're investing genuises), but historically a 10% annual return would be about average or maybe even a little above average depending on how far back you're looking. If you only had say $100 to invest and then got a 10% return then at the end of the year you would have $110. That same return would obviously look a lot more significant if you were able to start with $100,000. For that reason, a lot of personal finance people would say that the best investment for someone making a lower salary would be to take that money and see if you can use it to make a career change into something that'll give you more money to work with. But then that's easier said than done obviously and depends a lot on people's circumstances.

Also, it cannot be overstated how important compound growth is, which is the type of growth an investor sees in their investment. Google a compound growth calculator and try plugging in some numbers. You'd quickly see how significant investing as early on as you can makes a dramatic difference.

Final note - there are people who will show off their GME and bitcoin investing and whatever and talk about how they turned $100 into $50,000 or whatever. That's not the norm, and if you're fooled into thinking it is the norm and try to get into the next big thing then it's more likely you'll lose your investment. Those things exist, but they are by definition volatile. Some crypto people would be mad at me for saying it, because a crypto-holder has a very strong interest in getting other people to invest in the thing that they've already invested in (because that pushes the price, and the value of their investment, up even more). But I'll leave that at that.

KH1 is a wacky premise for a game to begin with and some particular story moments don't make a lot of sense but I think its made-up rules about darkness and hearts are internally consistent. It's like "don't think about it too too hard. this is just how things work in this universe" kinda sense.

CoM / KH2 I'd bunch together because almost everything in CoM is a set-up for KH2. All of the nobody / Org XIII stuff is another step in the "this is just how things work don't think about it too much" direction but I think most people could play it and understand the story sequences.

In my opinion it's BBS is where we hit the point of no return. Where no one really understands exactly how things work in this universe. With the super keyblade X-blade (which is pronounced "keyblade") which when created also summons the TRUEST Kingdom Hearts which is better than the other Kingdom Hearts and comes from Ventus's heart (i think...) and Terra-Xehanort body-switching and Vanitas looks like older Sora even though Sora is still a kid but he's not really Sora and Ventus is now in Sora which is why Roxas looks like Ventus. There's probably other important plot points somewhere in there I missed. BBS's plot is almost too ridiculous to even be a Kingdom Hearts fanfiction story.

Not really. It's more that Shininess at the time was based on a pre-existing mechanic (DVs) - Gen 1 had DVs too, since they determine stat growth. They just didn't change how DVs work in Gen 2.

In Gen 3 they had the current IV system, and Shinies were pure RNG and not DV-based.
Yep. It's similar to how gender doesn't exist in Gen 1, but when trading to Gen 2 it'll consistently decide the gender based on the pokemon's Attack DV stat (where males are literally better than females btw)

I don't think its a big deal in college tbh. Your time is your investment. If you feel like investing it in an internship is worthwhile, then so be it. If you feel like its best for your future to play football, then so be it. No one is forcing them to play, likewise no one is forcing them to intern at a company. You don't have to take more loans to do intern work. You just have to better manage your time.

And in internships you have the opportunity to thrive, to network, build your resume. Theres tons of benefits that can value more than just a salary.
I'm not sure how your college experiences went but for most of us we still had expenses we needed to cover to survive. Without loans or without your parents paying for everything you need some form of income. You're right that no one is forced into it. It is a choice - it's just one where the demand far exceeds the supply. But that's the same reason minimum wage exists at all. If it didn't exist then employers would be able to more easily exploit workers from receiving a living wage (and it's not even a living wage anymore). A medium-to-large sized organization offering an unpaid internship hardly has an excuse to avoid the sacrifice of the bare minimum $7.25 an hour.

-It depends on how you view college sports. How is it different than an unpaid internship where the company makes money, you acquire skills/training and resume building while working part-time or full-time hours. Its an investment into your future. In some cases it ends up being a waste of time and you go into another field. In some cases its a great opportunity to advance into better positions. How is sports any different?
It's a separate topic altogether but unpaid internships are absolutely a disgusting practice just as much. In theory it's like "job shadow us and we'll show you how it goes around here so you can get a little experience and understanding of the field" and in practice it's just "give us free labor and be grateful we're even allowing yourself to be associated with us". It's only tolerated because students in certain fields are so desperate that being exploited and taking out more loans to temporarily get through it in the absence of even minimum wage is the best option they have
