KILBOTz 09/17/21 2:19:07 AM #18 | Zoning and building code. Allow for tiny houses on tiny lots, let 50 tiny houses be on an acre with no parking. Find ways to allow for alternate building materials to be allowed. You have to make it profitable for builders to build low cost housing. Maybe give free permits and inspections for low income housing. --- |
Topic | Antifascist film stolen by Nazis and thought lost forever to get world premiere |
KILBOTz 09/17/21 12:56:48 AM #19 | Good lord. https://culture.pl/en/work/europe-anatol-stern-mieczyslaw-szczuka-teresa-zarnower Europa was based on a poem written in 1925, published 1929, collaborated into a surrealist film 1931. The poem was about post-Polish independence politics and issues. This was a distinctly Polish work. I doubt it was an anti-fascist movie when it was being made because I doubt the creators had ever heard of fascism. Nazis took and destroyed tons of works. Not all of it was anti-fascist. Pro-communist literature wasn't necessarily anti-fascist but it as destroyed all the same. A Polish film that touches on nationalism and poverty and hunger and revolution can be hated by nazis and intended to be destroyed forever without it being made as an anti-fascist piece. That's all I'm saying. --- |

KILBOTz 09/12/21 9:33:56 PM #12 | Because it uses no battery. The movement is a tiny dynamo that creates a charge (millivolts) instead of directly powering the movement, it is regulated through quartz for the timing, effectively. It has like an automatic clutch so if the timing of the mechanical is getting off from the quartz its able to self correct. To be honest Ive watched like 10 videos on them and still dont fully get it it, but your movement powers the watch, so in my mind, thats a pure automatic. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 3:08:55 PM #48 | UnfairRepresent posted... This simply isn't true. Sure CSA soldiers knew that for the nation it was about slavery. but they didn't write about it all that often in their letters. Union soldiers wrote about slavery much more often, and within the CSA those that owned slaves were far more likely to write about it than those that didn't. And I believe the 40% number is for volunteers, not total percent of CSA soldiers. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 2:34:31 PM #1 | Had a 7:30 tee time this morning with my brother http://www.fostergolflinks.com/-course-map Apparently a "links" style course, not sure what that means. It was a really short course though. Bogey'd 6 holes, double bogey'd 1 and par'd 2. Double bogey'd was hole 2. Tee shot put me into the bunker. 2nd shot went long. First putt was off by 15 feet still. Second putt i misread slope and missed by like 4'. Sunk on third putt. Pars were on 1 and 6. 6 was almost a birdie, first shot got within 10 yards of end of green. Chip maybe 30 yards, short about 10 feet. First putt ends up like 2" from hole, dead on just short. No 1 putts today. Which sucked. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 2:18:55 PM #25 | RickyTheBAWSE posted... why did poor Whites fight and die so rich Whites could keep free labor rather than fill a poor White man's pocket with a living wage? Propaganda. The whole pre-civil war people viewed themselves first as a citizen of their state, then the US. South Carolina secedes in December 1860 before Lincoln even takes office. First shot fired was April 12 1861. At that point only the deep south had seceded. April 15 Lincoln calls for 75k troops. Then the border states start seceding. This is all spun in the south that South Carolina was merely trying to reclaim their rightful territory. So this became the war of northern aggression. Average CSA soldier felt they were fighting for their home and right of self determination, not slavery. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 2:09:48 PM #23 | pogo_rabid posted... false, they wanted to hold out long enough to get enough international support so they could force the union into a situation where they could parlay into getting independence. Remember the north had ~4x the population of the south at the time, there was no real way for them to slug it out long term with the more industrialized and well funded north. They were looking for large wins on the battlefield to sway international opinion. Gettysburg happened because the CSA was on the offensive. They never should have stepped foot into union territory. They could have gone for other ways to sway opinion but their diplomats sucked, their government was a joke with no centralization or power. if they had a working government with a meritocratic appointments and didn't waste the early war holding off exports before the union blockade happened, they would have had a much better chance than what they did. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 2:05:54 PM #14 | UnholyMudcrab posted... The South could never win a war of attrition against an enemy that had a larger population and a larger economic and industrial base than they did. uh, a war of attrition is exactly how smaller less economical forces historically have beaten larger forces. See: american revolutionary war, vietnam, afghanistan (2x) etc. make them come to your land, have a bend but dont break strategy, live to fight another day, make it expensive for the opponent. sure it comes at really high costs but its pretty much only chance they ever had. --- |

KILBOTz 09/10/21 1:55:56 PM #3 | He was a good general, just not the type that the Confederates needed if they were going to win. That goes for pretty much all the confederate generals. They wanted to beat the union army into submission. But they fucked up their economy before / early in the war so a fight of attrition was going to be hard. --- |

Topic | Was COVID-19 a missed chance to sure up social security? |
KILBOTz 09/09/21 10:58:50 PM #9 | https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/ssb/v70n3/v70n3p111.html As a result of changes to Social Security enacted in 1983, benefits are now expected to be payable in full on a timely basis until 2037, when the trust fund reserves are projected to become exhausted.1 At the point where the reserves are used up, continuing taxes are expected to be enough to pay 76 percent of scheduled benefits. Thus, the Congress will need to make changes to the scheduled benefits and revenue sources for the program in the future. The Social Security Board of Trustees project that changes equivalent to an immediate reduction in benefits of about 13 percent, or an immediate increase in the combined payroll tax rate from 12.4 percent to 14.4 percent, or some combination of these changes, would be sufficient to allow full payment of the scheduled benefits for the next 75 years. But honestly the scare tactic isn't that social security won't run dry, it very well could and will if nothing changes. The scare tactic is that it doesn't matter a whole bunch if it does run dry. They will use debt to pay for it all else fails. All the poll is asking though is did we miss an opportunity to get another option beyond raising taxes or reducing benefits. --- |
