Yes. However, it's good to have the right expectations. It does have a slow pacing, but I am definitely not among those who consider it slow. It has a lot going on in each scene. It was Stanley Kubrick's last film, and he crammed it with visual details and subliminal images and messages, as he did all his films. Between hidden messages the visuals and the dialogue, there's a lot going on in each scene.

It's solid dramatically, the two stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were literally married at the time, which is pretty wild considering the subject matter. There are a few scenes that are very intense if you are not familiar with the film.

But it does go at a slow pace. I would say if you can enjoy movies that are older or just a little bit slower, more slice of life stuff maybe, you will probably enjoy EWS. Not that it's slice of life.... but it kind of is.... it's a strange movie, very dreamlike. There's nothing quite like it. Stick with it. It goes places you're not expecting at the start of the film.

Worth watching if you're a fan of film.

The word is vampire
Except they're not. There is only one instance of this immortality magic, and it's being passed from person to person. But, doing the story excludes me from having vampires or any other immortals as it takes away from the immortal drama of my protagonist.

jpenny2 posted...
Does he gain this power in the story or before? I would think being immortal wouldn't become an issue until he had lived for a long time, unless he's someone who doesn't want to be alive.
Within the story. You meet the protagonist and get to know the world first. Then in the story he meets the current 'Immortal', and eventually is given the immortality.

In my story this magic being passed between these people is mysterious, but has a long history. Most who have it give it up under threat of torture. That's probably the biggest fear for them, is to be tortured until they give it up.

So once you have it, the dilemma is, do you bare the burden of the immortality and that threat, or do you give it to someone else, knowing that either: a. you're putting that burden on them, or b. they are evil and will use it to do horrible things to the world. Or both.

Young man inherits magic force that makes him almost completely immortal. Any injuries will heal. Cannot die, except if he chooses to pass the immortality onto someone else. Once the exchange is made, that is when you die. Which is how he got it, from someone else who gave it to him, who then died.

All the drama is based around that, and how someone would deal with that.

If you're referring to them as that previous name, that is the issue I believe.

But in that example, where it's a story about the transition and it points out that it was formerly Ellen Page, I don't see the issue. It's just telling us who this is vs the name we knew them by before.

There are some valid points about Lucas above, but here is the thing: He created the story, the tone, the characters. Then, when the studios wanted a generic sequel, he instead came up with the twist in Empire. From that twist, he was able to create a general outline for the next seven movies. That's pretty brilliant in a time where series telling a single story over a franchise of films was basically non existent.

I mean, early film had serialized stuff. But something on the scale of movies in the 60s and 70s? No, not like Star Wars. Now, it seems Marcia Lucas' editing was pivotal. I've watched examples of how Lucas would have laid out the scenes, and it would have been much worse, possibly making it where SW would have never been a hit in the same way.

But you know what Lucas did? He picked someone in his wife, who was an excellent editor and was going to make the best of the material. He picked Ralph McQuarrie to paint artwork of scenes, so that when he pitched it to executives they could see the vision. He picked John Williams cause he trusted the genius of Spielberg who recommended him.

If you have not read Leigh Brackett's ESB first draft, it's worth it to do so. She was the first writer who Lucas hired to write the sequel to Star Wars. It follows much of the same general plot points of Empire, but with some crucial changes. When Luke goes to Dagobah, he meets the ghost of Anakin who was killed by Vader. Anakin tells him about his long lost twin sister, a character we haven't met yet.

Anakin then goes to Cloud City, and defeats Vader, though not totally. There is another mostly happy ending.

If the studios, or other writers, looked at SW and tried to write a sequel, that's what it would have been. Another week's episode of Flash Gordon saving the day. Lucas was the one who had the moment of genius revelation, when he realized Anakin and Vader could be the same character. Then he got Lawrence Kasdan to write that version. Through that, he was able to arc out the final film and the prequels, and set up some vague ideas for what the sequels would be. All before RotJ even started. That's why the first film's crawl originally didn't say "Episode IV" but, Empire's crawl has always said "Episode V". Through writing that revelation, Lucas was able to figure out almost the entire rest of the series.

Zikten posted...
George sucks too though. He gets too much credit for star wars. He only came up with the basic original concept but supposedly his original ideas were really lame and most if not all of what made star wars great came from idea from other people working with him.
His contribution to not just the creation but the trajectory of the entire universe cannot be overstated. None of it happens without him. If he had not owned the rights to the sequels, Fox would have pumped out two more generic space films and the series would have gone no where.

It is compatible with basically every major type of mod. All the greats have been ported.

It wasn't that way for about 2 - 3 years, but by this past year, there's almost nothing significant I can think of that isn't compatible. The performance gains are so great most modders have transitioned over. And they're very noticeable in gameplay if you compare. Crashes less too.

There may be some mods missing, but in my opinion it's still worth it to go with SE.

The way SE touches up the game visually is minor. Bethesda didn't really put too much effort into that. But, the bigger thing is its performance upgrade, it's a big deal to the game and to modding.

Congratulations on free Skyrim SE. That's a really great value.

Also just fyi there is a multiplayer mod for Skyrim that is in a very decent state. Gameplay mostly runs smooth and it has a significant portion of quests playable, though not all. They have their own servers too so you can just install the mod and jump in. Pretty fun.

-Similar scale up of content in rest of game, stages, quality of life additions/changes etc etc.
-Ultimate's DLCs stay as DLCs. If you bought them for Ultimate you'll still have them in the new game. From there on they release DLC characters/stages regularly at the price we've seen.

Do you buy? If they could pull off actually doing an Ultimate sequel, or otherwise turning Ultimate into the new platform for Smash content.

On this subject, graphic mods are there but really you hsouldn't need them. As far as graphics, with this game I think lighting mods are more important than new textures/models. If you do need them, they are there.

However, if you can get into the game, the game's best mod, and one of the best mods for any video game ever, is called Tamriel Rebuilt. They are trying to build the whole rest of the world. As of now, they have basically tripled the size of the game. There are several expansion packs worth of content ready to play.

It is the best game out of the modern three. Not only that but it has fully functioning multiplayer now, and MMO style servers, thanks to the modding community.

It is more immersive, more role-playing friendly, takes the player more seriously. However the combat is extremely dated there is essentially nothing to it. So in otherwords play for the world and the questing and the role-playing, don't play for the combat.

So yes buy it. Then look up tes3mp. It's the multiplayer mod. So then you can hop on one of the MMO servers. Your play experience can basically be the same you can still play all the quest by yourself, but if you want to there will be other players running around the world as well. It is an absolute blast

The Declaration of Independence literally refers to us as the united "States of America". The States of America. Not the "United States of America".

Referring to our government as the "United States" only happened once the Constitution was written. It refers to the government and its capital in Washington DC. If you live outside of DC, you are not in the US, you are only its citizen living outside of the literal territory. Most of us live in the different "States of America" but are citizens of the "United States" and subject to it.
