After placing the order, a runner or whatnot gave me my appetizer, and it was wrong. I waited for about 4 minutes (timed) to see my waitress to tell her it was wrong, but she never dropped by. I flagged down another waiter and asked him for my waitress. My waitress came with her phone in her hands, asked what I needed, and I told her about the wrong appetizer. She apologized and took it back. My main course was then delivered by the runner. Halfway through my lunch, I realized I still didn't get my appetizer. My waitress still hasn't come check on me, nor has she given me my correct appetizer. At this point, I was wondering if I would finish my main course before my waitress even comes by, so I just continued eating. Sure enough, I finished my food, and my waitress was nowhere to be found. I flagged down the same waiter, and asked for my waitress. She came by (no phone in her hands this time) and literally placed the check on the table then left. No "how was your food", no apologies for the missing appetizer, etc. The check, of course, had the appetizer charged. I just walked to the hostess with the check, told her that I didn't get my appetizer and I am sick of waiting for my waitress to deal with this. She asked what was wrong, and I explained all the above. She apologized, removed the appetizer, inserted my card at a tablet on her table, and asked how much I would like to tip (chip card, so the tip has to be pre-set prior to removing the card). I literally laughed and said "no thank you". She looked at me weird and asked if I left a cash tip. I said no, and she again asked if I wanted to tip on the card. I repeated "no", and she finally let it go. I signed, and left. So... what should I have done? Was I wrong to not tip here? TL;DR: Literally got no service from the waitress, talked to the hostess about it, and was glared at (as if I'm the asshole) for not tipping. What should I have done // was I wrong to not tip? --- |

At the entrance, there is a nice, brick, ornate sign that is lit up (typically what you would expect for an HOA / cookie cutter "Ryan" homes, but my block has all custom homes and is also not an HOA). Turns out ever since 22 years ago, the residents of this block all got together and donated to get that made. Ever since then, they rely on donations to maintain the sign. Letter I got says it costs $600/year to maintain (grounds keeping plus electric). The household that is taking care of that sign is inviting everyone over for a Christmas breakfast tomorrow morning, and requested people to bring donations for the sign, as the funds are getting low (~$400 in reserves). I just moved into this house, and I never really met my neighbors. I'm guessing I should go, to introduce myself and get to know the neighbors somewhat. So...... how much should I donate? . . . TL;DR: My block has a brick sign at the entrance that costs $600/year to maintain. My block is not an HOA. One house is hosting a Christmas breakfast to solicit donations to keep it going. How much should I donate? --- |
