Maybe pay a babysitter to come with you next time. Nice of you to invite your mom....not so nice to expect her to take care of your child if you hadn't made that clear to her when you invited her. Just chill and enjoy your trip WITH your child.
I did make it clear, and we have daycare on board the ship. Im more pissed off at no privacy any time because shes in the room all day (wont go out, which is unexpected), and did literally nothing watching our child last night.

Yikes. Sounds terrible TC. If your mom has a history of not helping i dont see why you would expect it to change. Although you did ask her specifically as a condition to her coming. Have you not been asking her straight up enough or just assuming she will volunteer herself to help?
Never asked her for help in the past 16 months. We usually ask my in laws, and theyre fantastic. We wouldve paid for a balcony room for them to join us, but they get terribly sea sick and didnt want to come. Ive asked her directly- can you leave the room? and she does, but comes back after like 10 minutes because she just wants to sleep/lounge in our suite; can you take our daughter out, to which she says sure, but just continued to sit and do nothing.

Quicksilver posted...
Lol your own fault for inviting her. Like she is literally the woman who brought you into this world let her enjoy her vacation. What kind of person brings their own Mother on a vacation then is like nope Mom no fun for you watch our baby while we have fun sounds kind of selfish.
I literally asked her to do this before we left. We have 6 hours of day care every day on board; the rest, we wanted to do a split- some her, some us but its been all us, and during day care time, my mom is just in the suite so we cant even do anything in our suite. Its god damn annoying.

Priere posted...
Instead of bringing a baby on a vacation they won't remember, you should have dumped the kid with your mom back at home.

You cucked yourself
I actually wanted to leave our child with the in laws, and the in laws were volunteering, but my wife wanted to bring our child. Honestly, it isnt too bad with the on-board daycare.

On a cruise right now. Spent what we would normally spend on our normal yearly international trip pre-child, and got a two-floor loft, specifically a star loft suite on Royal Caribbean.

Originally, it was myself, my wife, and our 16 month old child. I asked if my mom wants to come with us for free (since she can use the sofa-bed on the first floor and adding a 4th person to a single room didnt add much cost) and help us watch her grandchild to give us some alone time (outside of the daycare hours), and she agreed.

Its day 3 of 8 now, and she has literally never watched our child. She has mostly just been sleeping or lounging in the suite all day (while our baby is in daycare so we cant even get intimate upstairs), and if not sleeping/lounging in the suite, out and about on the ship alone (without taking, nor volunteering to take, our child). To get her out of the suite, I walked her out to our suite-only area on the pool deck, which had significantly less people than the normal area but she couldnt take the hint and said shell just stay in the suite.

She also seems to have zero interest in taking care of our child. All she does is sit, watch us take care of our child (like this morning, she just sat playing on her phone on a lounge chair in the living room and watched us do morning routine and feeding our child in the dining room, while exclaiming how cute our child is and asking when were going to go eat in the restaurant).

The only time she watches our child is when we put her to bed in the evening and then go out to do our stuff. First night, when my wife and I came back to our suite, our child was asleep in her crib and my mom was sleeping; no biggie. Last night, I got texts from her saying (literally)-
9:31- Baby crying about 30 min
9:37- Baby stopped crying
9:56- Baby crying again
10:05- Baby sleeping

After we got back to our room, I asked her what she did to console our child, and she said nothing- she was just telling me the sequence of events.

Im pretty pissed off. I got my mom whos literally not doing the one thing I asked her to do if she wanted to join us on the cruise and no intimacy time with my wife.

My wife says basically that I know my mom, and I shouldve know her to be like this, and I shouldnt be pissed off. Thoughts?

Lesson Learned though- this will be the last time I ever travel with my mom.

God damn you take some expensive vacations. Must be some rich people packages. I spent 2 weeks in Vietnam and everything including flight, hotel, and food came to $2k.
Thats the thing- we dont do packages. Everything is planned and private for us.

On our trip to Japan, for example, we got first class JR Passes (because we went during peak cherry blossom season and we didnt want to get the economy JR Passes since they are first come/first serve), and we hired private tour guides to meet us at the hotel and guide us around for each of our destinations. It was beautiful, amazing, and extremely educative on the Shintoism and their religious culture (we even slept at a temple, where they had curfews and strict co-ed rules to the point my wife and I couldnt even sleep in the same building!). Our main stops were-
Hiroshima, Miyajima, Himeji, Koyosan, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, and Tokyo.

But our first international trip to Greece, we were running cheapo and we did two things- rented a car and drove all around Greece for a week+ (Corinth, Nemea, Mycenae, Nafplio, Epidarus, Olympia, Patras, Delphi, Meteroa, Thermopylae), and a three day bus tour of Athens and surrounding area. The latter sucked and is sort of erased from my memory since we were stuck with like 50 people and could barely hear the tour guide, whereas the former, even though we had no tour guides, is vividly fresh in my memory because it was so wild that we did all that (driving like a thousand miles in a little over a week in a foreign country, just to sightsee).

Sure, and like I said, I'm not trying to deflate anybody's enjoyment of their own time and money. I continue to stress the fact that I personally don't like traveling or spending money on vacation amenities. It's just so temporary; if the idea is to collect memories and have new experiences, there are way cheaper ways to have a good time in my opinion.

I went to California when I was in 5th grade and we visited a beach, and I got a little plastic box full of tiny seashells for like $3. I still have them, and I enjoy having them, but bruh they cost $3 and the flight/hotel were like a few hundred bucks at the time.

No part of me can imagine any vacation or temporary amenity that adds up to be worth $14,000 even if you're rich. Like, would I spend $500 to use a solid gold toilet one time just to say that I've done it? Fuck no, that's a huge waste of money.

I believe in either saving money or spending it on tangible things. I have some very, very rich family members who don't over-spend on vacation. In fact, most of their "vacations" are mission trips and modest visits to exotic places that only cost a couple of thousand at the most.

I literally cannot imagine a trip for two people and a baby over the course of 8 days that adds up to being worth $14,000. Even with daycare services, "free" food, and a personal butler that sounds like an enormous amount of money.
Interesting I personally dont care about spending money on tangible stuff unless its necessary. For example, we dont go buy $100 jeans; $15 Costco jeans is good enough.

sounds like you are speaking from the perspective of not having the money to blow on all that stuff

we are not at spend $14k on a vacation level yet but my wife and I both got big raises this year and on our most recent vacation the attitude has shifted from save money where possible towards spend whatever it takes to have the vacation we want

and as an aside, kids are not a burden on vacation. Part of them growing up is experiencing new things and places, and its different but still a lot of fun to be on vacation with them. One week later my toddler is still walking around the house saying seashells from our trip to the ocean. traveling can even bring joy to little ones
Agreed. My wife and I started from save money on travel, and went low key on our first international vacation (around $6k for 2 weeks at Greece, staying at like $30/night places!) almost a decade ago. In 2019, just prior to the pandemic, we went to Japan but stayed in 4-5 star hotels and spent around $20k for 2 weeks; it was a much more enjoyable trip.

And we traveled to Boston, MA, Williamsburg, VA, Virginia Beach, VA, Six Flags NJ, and Cedar Point OH over the past two years, and agreed traveling with a toddler is not that BAD, but it is not relaxing!

I never understood the point of a cruise, and never went on one, until we had a baby.

Before Covid, my wife and I would go on one 2-week international vacation a year, which cost around $10k-$15k. Between 2020 to 2022, we didn't go anywhere because of Covid... and 2022, my wife was pregnant, so we just did domestic trips. We're now itching to actually go somewhere further, but with a 15-month old, this seems impossible without everyone having a shitty time. Enter: Cruises.

We booked an 8-day cruise that goes to the Bahamas, and we booked a 2-floor loft suite for ~$14k total (with shore excursions) through Royal Caribbean. The 2-floor is critical, so that we can have our 15-month old in a crib on a whole different floor so we can continue to do our stuff when she's asleep (which was cheaper than a 2-bedroom 1-floor suite). This comes with a literal full-time butler that follows you around (royal genie), who will take care of our every need (from setting up dining in our own suite with waiter service and watching our child at night when daycare is closed while we go out do stuff, to something as small as cutting elevator lines), and our 15-month old will be in the "adventure ocean" daycare. During shore excursions, we just booked private areas in beach-fronts vs. what we would typically do on our vacations (hiking and touring), since we have a 15-month old with us.

While this is extravagant (since when people think of cruises, they think of cheap fun), this was the only way for us to relax and have our child with us, vs. traditional family vacations.

Israels Hostage Crisis Deepens With Execution Threat

Israels unprecedented hostage crisis took an even graver turn Monday when Palestinian militants threatened to begin executing prisoners unless the government ratchets back its bombardment of their Gaza sanctuary.

[Hamas], which has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the European Union, returned to Gaza after assaulting military bases and towns in southern Israel with at least 100 hostages, whose families have pressed Netanyahu to safeguard their lives as the military campaign continues.

The Hamas threat to begin executing civilian hostages came after the Israeli military said Monday it was going on offensive with an intensifying bombing campaign. The defense minister ordered a siege of the coastal enclave, and the military refrained from its usual practice of giving a warning ahead of airstrikes to allow civilians time to evacuate.

There are already signs that Israel may be exploring a possible deal, at least to secure the release of women and children, using Egypt as an intermediary, according to Egyptian officials. But Hamas has given little indication it is prepared to negotiate unless it can secure the release of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli detention, according to the officials.

Hamas has said it is seeking the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails in exchange for the Israeli captives. Israel is holding 4,499 Palestinians for security reasons, including 183 from Gaza, according to BTselem, an Israeli human-rights organization.

Nearly 124,000 Palestinians fled their homes in anticipation of a wider Israeli retaliation, with some seeking shelter in schools and emergency shelters. Streets and markets in central Gaza City were filled with the thump of Israeli shelling and the wails of ambulance sirens. Nearly a dozen dead Palestinian civilians, including children, were retrieved from one residential neighborhood. Electricity in Gaza has been reduced to less than three hours a day.

She loves walking around our cul-de-sac, but Im deathly afraid of her just bolting in front of a car because she doesnt know a car will kill her (nor does she even comprehend what that means). Im thinking of buying something like this:

Bringing my 1.5yo to a cruise soon, and seriously thinking about leashing her because she hates being in the stroller now that she can reliably walk, and a cruise is an unfamiliar, potentially dangerous place to have a 1.5yo run off with thousands of others on the ship. As shes 1.5yo, she literally cannot be reasoned with / disciplined yet, so its not like I can tell her to stay by my side.

As someone who didn't play OG FF 7, it's fine. It's part 1 of a trilogy so I don't expect them to explain everything immediately. Honestly it's probably even better that I don't have anything to compare it to
Sephiroth shouldn't even be in the Remake (Part 1).

If you never played FF7, the Remake makes no sense. The Remake 100% assumes you played the original, and are a huge fan of it. For example, if you played this game for the first time, you'd have no idea who Sephiroth even is, and why he's just in the game from the beginning for absolutely no reason, the whispers for no reason, random climaxes that try to twist the story (like when Barret "dies"), random as fuck final boss (Sephiroth but in a weird world), the random character introduction at the end (Zach), etc.

0:02 - are those archways real, or just a studio backdrop?

That's the greatest example of "I ain't even mad, just disappointed" there is.
Probably fake.
