If they didn't earn enough through tips, the employer will pay the remainder to meet minimum wage.

So...... why can't the employer just pay minimum wage, and tips be actual tips?

This is why groups on the left have pushed to eliminate the lower minimum wage for tipped workers in recent years, notably in DC (where voters passed it, and Democrats on city council then repealed it)

This is why people should be fighting for waiters to get better wages, and not to actually tip more. People need to tip more because they allow the owners to pay them like slaves.
