I seem to be noticing more and more often people seem to disregard red lights. I don't normally see ones this egregious, but people will assume command of the first few seconds of their now red light seemingly half the time. At least once a week my light will be green but some dumb motherfucker will still be turning - going while it's been red for a second.

I decided to start the movie today since I never saw it and I'm watching and honestly I kept forgetting Pratt voiced Mario. He sounded nothing like Pratt and everybody's voice actors so far is great. I'm not very far into the movie but I don't know why people threw fits about his voice...like I know the trailers people were complaining but even when the movie came out there were still complaints.

i think so. maybe not in a year, but the next few years. the actual job market is strong, but I think there's going to have to be some level of reckoning in the near future. there's only ever been one economic soft landing, it's more likely that a recession will happen. no matter what the lines on charts say, the reality is that a lot of people are struggling to afford food and housing at the moment, and at some point the market will have to reflect that reality.

japan and U.K. are already in recession, China is on the way. might be wise to save some money, just in case.

It loses money. It disrupts everything.

There's no reason to continue it except to kick people like dogs twice a year. It's the government on a power trip, reminding people that they are the gods and they say when it's day or when it's night. There's no other reason whatsoever.

is this really the reason? i thought some companies were lobbying some members of congress to keep it. Though i very vaguely read that though.

Any of you think law will be changed soon? Why do many politicians not want to do it?

No. We got married at the notary's office; it was about as bare bones as possible (which is not only what we wanted, it was all we'd be able to afford)

The whole process took no more than 15 minutes and mostly amounted to saying "yes" to questions and signing some papers.

No, we were planning an August wedding and had let people know the date and were in the early stages of planning. We were on the verge of printing out invitations when I got a call with a long sought after job offer across the country starting in July so we called the family, told them not to buy travel tickets and hurriedly did the minimum required steps for a civil wedding (minister friend was the officiant, and we had two other friends act as signatories).

This was in the pre-Obergefell days but the state of Washington allowed same sex marriage, so we wanted to get the wedding done before moving to make sure my new job's health coverage would apply to him.

"Experets" said it was going out of business the whole time I worked there and they only got stronger. They're the only brick and mortar retailer that sells Apple computers (outside of the Apple Store), and they still have a large market share for home theater.

Once they started price-matching Amazon, they fixed a lot of their problems

they price match amazon, they prob lose a lot of money on that. i thought that like walmart and target sell apple computers. What do you think about gamestop, best buy would outlast them?

I worked at a Best Buy from 2011-2017. When I started, about 25% of the store was CD's and DVD's. When I left, it was down to maybe 10%. Now it's like 2%

It is definitely video games, although movies might be the next to go on the chopping block.

To be fair, the companies themselves (ie: Warner brothers) may stop bringing things to Dvd/Blu-ray entirely way before stores stop selling them. WwE has already stopped putting their events on Dvd a few years back.

Oh best buy already stopped with vid games, I thought it was other way around.

How about for video games, they will still sell video games on disc. Saw an ad that said a bunch of fames on bestbuy.com were on sale. Not sure if you go to their store if it will be the same price.

Thing is, a good customer can only be so good. The best kinds are just quick and pleasant. You won't see them for long. The worst can get as bad as someone taking a dump in the aisle while brandishing a knife. Way bigger impact there!

Like what do the bad ones really do though? They are usually there for like 15 mins right?

My wife works as an analyst for Cigna and doesn't have a degree. Most of her co workers do. She worked her way up over the years and has become one of the strongest people in her team. Depends on the field for sure.

do you think having a college degree is going up in importance mostly in the u.s.? college costs are going up, student debt in total is going up...etc...

It depends on the field. If it's a job where an extensive education is objectively required and you're given a great deal of responsibility, you need the credentials. Lying about a medical degree and then becoming a surgeon is dangerous.

If you're working for generic business #10924 as Excel/Word user #38617 there's a 99% chance a college education is completely irrelevant to your job.

This is extremely common and the only times where it becomes newsworthy is if someone gets exposed for lying about it while working in government, education or healthcare.

yeah it must be extremely common. Maybe much more common than most people believe. The ones that make news are usually like upper upper positions or famous people.

as an uber driver? Have heard many others say that it is extremely difficult to make good money working these jobs. Any of you consider the propositions for theses jobs to be worse than like working at walmart?

Mostly for cats.... although I have a Cheerdots mini bluetooth mouse that I use if I need to get on my work machine remotely when I am out and about and it has a pointer on it.

Worked in fast food for probably a decade, it was awful. Hard to quantify into percentages, but if the percentage was only 1% I think the reason it felt like more was because it became much more than 1% of your job dealing with them and not simply a bias in selecting perception.

yeah, have seen some where they spend like 30 mins trying to complain to a manager even if they weren't really right. Like they really put effort into it or figure out how to make your life miserable...etc....

It's hard to judge because so many costumers just come by without making any impression whatsoever good bad or decent. For what's it's worth, I have worked in a 7-Eleven and a Toys R Us. I think it makes a difference compared to stores where you need to talk to go most costumers beyond stating a price.

I don't think I would mind going looking isolated at it, at least if it was a place where I had personal interest in what we sold, but I'm currently working in experimental physics and I don't see myself wanting to leave that for much of anything anytime soon.

I work full time with the public, and I have certain people that I'm just like "you deal with this lady, she creeps me out." "I'll take care of the 90 year old leery pervert." Random people who aren't regular visitors, it's just a small percentage with an asshole quotient, but they are absolutely more noticeable than 10+ good interactions, especially if one of the assholes is petty enough to write a comment card to the admins that never work floor.

Library ain't retail (except during the twice annual book sale) but it's near enough to count.

worked at a comic shop on and off, hard to place an exact amount of time on it but it was over the course of 6 years

I didn't consider it a "real" job because 80% of it was just fucking around reading comics and bullshitting with the regulars. It was easily the best job I ever had. I almost became the manager but we all believed there was a "curse" that trapped managers there in a dead-end job. That was... 2012ish I think. My friend got the job when I turned it down. It is 2024 and he is still manager. The curse is real.

I owned a food truck for a bit and that's also different than traditional food service jobs because I was da boss. Miss my truck

I consider myself lucky that most of the rest of my career has been in non-customer facing jobs. I hate that shit

yea i guess, you hate customer facing jobs? That might be most jobs though......cause of terrible customers, that's why you hate it so much? have heard some say terrible customers are the minority just quickly forget about them

This. But you have to be careful with this, because it can be torture. It triggers their chase instinct but if they never catch anything, it can make them anxious. I have heard it is a good idea to sometimes let the pointer lead them to a treat or something.
