In retrospect, I think some of my "fears" may have actually been my autistic baby brain reacting poorly to certain stimuli. I was terrified of car wash tunnels as a kid, and putting my face underwater (even just under shower spray, no joke) would make me scream; I never really learned how to swim effectively because I never fully got over that. I think one of my sisters figured out that I was afraid of getting anything in my eyes, so I'd stuff a washcloth in front of my eyes whenever I had to wash my hair/face to stop the distress.

I was scared of heights and clowns (typical), but I loved movies like the Terminator and Aliens when I was teeny (fuck knows why my parents let me watch those movies... even let me watch Aeon Flux, wtf were they thinking?) and they didn't scare me; I told my parents I wanted to be a ternimator when I grew up. Darkness didn't really scare me, but I had hideous nightmares even as a very small child about people being murdered/our house being attacked.

Phillip Glass for more modern compositions, maybe?

For video game composers, I'm partial to Go Shiina, Michiru Yamane, Keiichi Okabe... The multiple composers that worked on Bayonetta 2 did a great job...

For older stuff, I like Vivaldi. Tallis did great work but he was focused on choral masterpieces so he doesn't really count for this.

Vomiting is not a common COVID-19 symptom, but coughing is. If it's the cough specifically that's causing the vomiting, there may be a problem.

Is it a dry cough (non-productive) or a wet cough? Dry = COVID-19 symptom, ftr.

That said, you can have more than one illness at once which can complicate attempts at diagnosing via symptoms. I suggest looking up a list of symptoms online; it's readily available.

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/latest-evidence/clinical
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6928a2.htm

Seems like it can be a symptom of COVID-19 but it's rare.

This. The shut-down is not letting up in my area at all because we have a fucking cult in town that is deliberately violating all guidelines on purpose.

My job is literally to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into a vulnerable community by doing basic screening of people for entry into the area. So no, I'm not one of those people.

DANTE20XX posted...
You can catch it despite this anyways. It only limits it slightly.
The first statement is true. The second is not. 2 people wearing masks and properly distancing reduce the rate of transmission between them by over 90%, and you can take it near to 100% if you wear a shield for your eyes, too. :-/

It spreads through droplet contamination, so as long as you don't expose yourself to people's breath through your eyes/mouth/nose and keep your hands clean and others do the same, the disease can't spread. We only had to shut down because people wouldn't step the fuck up at the start and beat it before it began. The ONLY reason this has persisted for so long is because people are choosing not to participate in stopping the spread of the contagion.

What I find funny is that there are Judeo-Christian texts that actually support abortion and explain how it is to be done (without the woman's consent, of course) at the hands of a priest. The idea that Christianity supports the pro-life position is patently absurd.

*shrug* But that's not going to change anyone's mind. Religious people don't much care about consistency/honesty, and when it comes to abortion, all they care about is saying abortion = murder and unwanted pregnancy = justified punishment. Never mind that pregnancy is a life-threatening procedure that will likely permanently maim you if it doesn't kill you, and that our laws have made it very clear that you cannot force someone to preserve the life of another at the expense of your own body (you cannot force people to donate blood/tissues/organs, you cannot punish someone for not saving another person who is in danger because they were afraid for their own life, etc). The end result is that pro-lifers will give more bodily autonomy to the corpses of people who didn't sign up to be organ donors when they were alive than they will to pregnant women.

It depends on the election in question and where you live. Most people's votes will have a lot more influence at lower levels, which is why you should always vote for down-ticket folks even if you hate everyone running higher up. But if you don't live in a swing state, your vote doesn't really matter much for the highest races. My vote has literally never mattered when it comes to the federal and even the state level, but I still vote for the local elections.

Being straight or not isnt something you can see on someone though, so thats different. Being gay is also far more common than being trans.
  1. There is no way in hell you would think that Blaire White and Buck Angel were trans just by looking them, and I can think of multiple people I have met who were so androgynous I had no idea what pronouns to use, and this isn't even talking about intersex people. It's well-known that bigotry towards trans people has resulted in cis people abusing and insulting OTHER CIS PEOPLE for this very reason.
  2. ... How common a word is has no bearing on the validity of said word. Nobody takes issue with rarer terminology than the word "cis." And if you're whining that you've never heard it before... who tf cares? Words are coined all the time, and "cis" is older than many other terms you have probably accepted with little to no question, including "crowdsourcing," "app," "simp," and so on, and more common than many, MANY other words that you take no issue whatsoever with. I don't see swathes of people clutching their pearls over the word "badinage." Edit: And come to think of it, isn't this argument in FAVOR of the term "cis" but against the word "trans," as being cis is more common than being straight, being gay, and being trans? >_>

What word do you think ought to be used instead of the proper one, which you have now heard and now know?

LinkPizza posted...
Sure. The problem is you can't ask an infant. And in many cases, you can't always ask the child, as they may not even understand what you're asking. Some will, but many probably won't. So until they actually know, they usually have to live as whatever they were giving at birth until they can.
We could raise children to be gender neutral for the first few years of their life (I think four is the typical age by which children have fully recognized their own gender?). It is the obvious solution and in fact has been done in the past in the culture we live in.

There's not just one reason why trans people get so much shit, tbh, and some of the reasons behind it are actually pretty complicated in ways most people aren't really aware of. The most obvious reasons are fairly straightforward; it's usually some combination of homophobia, misogyny, insecurity about one's own sexuality/identity, and/or ignorance/misinformation often instilled in someone from a trusted religious/political figure.

A slightly more complex contributing factor is that a lot of people have these ideas of how a person *must* be to be "successful," and if they aren't living in accordance with said standard, they are regarded as a "failure" and held in disdain by default. To people who fixate on such a thing, seeing someone not only not even attempt to live in accordance with that standard but be perfectly content not to is an outright affront, and to the more extreme, they view people actively not living up to said standard to be a threat (not to civilization as they'll often claim, but to their own rigid world view); if someone isn't living up to that standard and they *aren't* miserable and failing, it challenges them. Incidentally, this is often the underlying motive behind people openly encouraging the harassment of trans people.

There's a ton of post Ending A/B content, dude, you haven't even seen half the story yet. The game isn't structured like Nier Gestalt; the endings are not the only thing that change. You've basically put down the game around the same point that in Gestalt where Kaine turns to stone. In other words, you've only played the set-up for the story, not the pay-off. You can rush through Route B and get to the rest of the game fairly easily. And once you complete the game, you get a chapter select so you can go back and do stuff you may have rushed through and missed.

Interesting. I guess it is a USA thing because I've never heard about that until now.
It is for the most part. It's also a rather outdated stereotype (alongside "black people love fried chicken and black-eyed peas") and doesn't really have any relevance to today's culture (most people like watermelon and fried chicken and we don't inherently associate them with poverty/black people in the modern era much anymore) so it tends to only come up when you're confronted with someone who is brazenly old-school racist. It's rarity in today's era is precisely why it's standing out to so many posters as being really racist, because you have to be a special kind of dumb-fuck to simultaneously be aware of this idiocy and then choose to perpetuate it.

Thinking someone with autism would even be able to go acting doesn't really understand autism. I mean, it's not impossible, but it wouldn't really be worth it for anybody.
For the record? This attitude, which Sia herself expressed, saying that autistic actors weren't as capable as the actress she chose, is precisely why people are upset. THIS keeps autistic actors from getting steady and well-paying work, which is why people generally advocate for people who belong to stigmatized/marginalized groups to get to play roles that relate to their own conditions- it's not because people who don't have that given trait can't do it. It's that casting people who don't have those conditions all the time because you're working under the assumption that the stigmatized people are somehow inherently less capable makes it harder for the stigmatized people to make a living.

OniRonin posted...

Also, this. Your argument has already been disproven before it was made. You're putting forth the idea that autistic actors are less capable than neurotypical actors... even when the role depicts their neurodivergence. It's completely absurd.
