Minor update: I'm going to aim to start on the 10th. I'm going to be busy on the 9th and I'm paying more attention to BOST's nominations than expected (I don't think I've joined in before), so I'll just wait a couple extra days until my schedule is freer.

Since I never gave an exact date before, I'm not sure it counts as a delay exactly, but either way there's now a planned date.

Notes

1: You might want to lower your expectations a bit. After my wrists started acting up, I kinda kept most writeups to one or two sentences... I do plan on *trying* to type more for each song by the time they're eliminated, but I can't promise anything. Physically, I could probably do one large writeup per day, so I'm going to have to find a balance between 'not really commenting on any songs' and 'only posting one song per day so the ranking takes a few years'.

I don't know what that balance is going to look like, so... don't expect a lot of writing for too many songs.

2: I will post what scores each song got (Initial, Revised, and Final) but only a song's final ranking will be posted. I used to post where each song fell in all three versions of the ranking, but it's not exactly feasible at the moment... I was tracking that data and entering it alongside each song, but some things lead to that data not being accurate and needing to be thrown out.

I can re-enter the correct values, but entering 784 data points that don't actually impact a song's final ranking feels like a lot of work for minimal payoff. At the end of the ranking, a full spreadsheet will be posted where you can see all that data yourself; so... I suppose it's less "I'm not going to post where songs fell after the first listen" as it is "due to some issues that data isn't going to be revealed until the very end". Thank you for understanding.

3: Unlike last year, all 784 songs are part of the same ranking. Last year kinda had things split into three: The R-Number list of songs I was familiar with before the ranking started, the main ranking, and a Bonus Round for every song that I considered having in first place at the main ranking. While there were plans to do something similar this year, we've switched to a more traditional "everything in one large pile" format.

This was a last minute change which is why the earlier placement data I was tracking doesn't exactly work... that's entirely my fault for radically changing the topic format at the literal last possible moment, but it is what it is.

4: No song's placement is considered truly final until the first place is decided and may be revised at any time, for any reason. There are a *lot* of songs with extremely volatile rankings... like "+/- 700 ranking positions" bouncing all over the list rankings. It's... possible I may eliminate a song early and then suddenly decide that I really love it and retroactively revise it a few hundred spaces up a few months later. Or vice-versa. Will it actually happen?

This is... kinda going to be rather chaotic and done over the course of several months, where I have very little idea what the final list is going to look like. Expect far more errors and chaos than usual. But there'll be a finalized ranking EVENTUALLY. Probably. Hypothetically.

I don't suppose you know of anywhere else this track might have been uploaded or archived? Quite a few songs have had their original links deleted, but this is the only one I haven't been able to find an alternative link for.

If I'm being reasonable, I'd try to get third and final scores for the bottom 20 songs worked out so that I have a backlog in place and can still post a song or two on days where I'm not up to typing.

There is a non-zero chance that I start without any backlog in place once the second phase is done, but it'll depend on when the second phase is finished & how foolish I feel that day. I would hope for future me's sake that she makes said backlog, but we'll see what happens.

I've thought it's a little weird that we haven't yet covered artists like Led Zeppelin, Queen, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, etc. The thing is, for me, while I've heard many of their various singles, I've never actually listened to a full album from any of those artists! Surely I'm not the only one....right....?

I've heard Pet Sounds (Beach Boys) & a few Bowie albums, but I haven't heard an album from the others you've named.

I like soundtracks, but wouldn't it be weird? Like, take the soundtrack to the 2003 Daredevil film: 20 songs by 19 different artists. Allegedly that album is the first time any of those songs were released (Evanescence's debut album would be released a month later) so technically they're all new songs... but putting aside the length, would a chaotic mash of 19 different artists be in the spirit of the topic?

I certainly wouldn't complain about it, but a sampling of various artists just feels odd to me.

We have already done Hamilton before, so musicals are fine.

Oh yeah. That's still my favorite album we covered, so I really should have remembered that precedent... alright, that gives me some options to play with, thank you.

And I figured compilation albums were out... it's bothersome how many great songs only wind up on Film Soundtracks or Greatest Hits albums, but there's not much that can be done about that & even I think including them would be kinda lame.

As in, we could do 3 personal weeks in a row, then a single competitive week, then 3 more personal weeks, and so on.

I like the way this sounds. Having one special competitive week a month for variety sounds like a fair compromise & potentially interesting. I don't like the sound of doing that multiple weeks in a row, but spreading it out is a fun experiment.

And while it's still a long way before my next pick and I really don't know what I'm going to do with it, I suppose I'll ask now while we're discussing rules: what counts as an album for this series/what types of albums aren't allowed? For example, purely as a hypothetical, could I nominate the soundtrack to a musical -if- said album had deep personal significance to me & it had a standard number of tracks/length?

Such albums tend to be credited to "Cast of [Musical]" instead of a specific artist, so I see the reason to disqualify such things on a technicality. Also a "literally no one wants you to nominate this, you idiot" standpoint. BUT such things are legally defined as albums and if I were to make a list of 'albums most important to me' there definitely would be one on it. I don't want to discuss which one or why, but think along the lines of the one-disc version of the theatrical release of Phantom of the Opera.

Not saying I would nominate said hypothetical album, as there's a million reasons not to & it's way too far in the future to guess what I'll want to do in January, but if I'm explicitly forbidden from nominating it then you may want to make that more... explicit.

[For what it's worth, I'd have two relatively normal albums alongside it & wouldn't be psychotic enough to force a musical week onto an audience that would not approve of it. ...Also i can't think of three musicals I'd even want to discuss in this context, but that's neither here nor there.]

Daemon never struck me as a Satanic figure. Also, there's literally "Lucemon: Satan Mode", so if you wanted to be really literal about it...

Can't recall what the dub changed Satan Mode's name to, but if you make one in Cyber Sleuth and read the description it says that is literally the Biblical Satan even in the English version (which kept the censored name, but didn't care to censor the flavor text). ...Shame I didn't think to nominate him, but not many people liked the series Lucemon was in. Myself included, to be honest.

Ohh, that would explain why I liked it during this ranking period... I was going through a metal phase when it was time to rank these & I have an unbelievable amount of nostalgia for Meat Loaf, so that sounds like a perfect recipe for an incredibly high score.

For what it's worth, I've liked "I Want It That Way" for years now & have always been mildly curious about the album it came from, so I'm glad this album got chosen. It's not a favorite or anything, but it's something I've wanted an excuse to listen to and generally enjoyed my time with, so I'm content.

In the Japanese version of the game, Sirufa (whose Japanese name... would be better rendered as "Sylph") is a fairy who controls the wind. Before recruiting Rachel, talking to her causes the party to "ride the wind" to Coryan, while visiting her after getting Rachel sends the party to Magmal Isle. That's it.
In the US version, Sirufa's dialogue has been rewritten. Now, her wind powers are due to a bet she lost with an unexplained "Thaldar," as a result of which she "received the curse of eternal seimic flatulence." This is then used to create a mechanic whereby, if Sirufa's teleportation is used without having all party members equipped with "Filtration Masks," the unequipped members will be "overcome by the noxious fumes" and remove the rest of the party's masks before dying, causing an instant game over.
