Ace Attorney comes to mind. I bought the 2nd game first. I was kind of intense about the whole story/gameplay and remember deciding I should only play the game on weekends, to give my brain a chance to calm down during the week. I can't say I've had that with any other game since then, including more recent Ace Attorney games. Nothing against them it's just the whole idea was new at the time, and also it had been awhile since I'd played any sort of adventure games.

As far as recent examples, Super Mario 35 is one that I wasn't sure what to expect but ended up playing a lot of.

Personally, I'd prefer a system that counts all medals but that weights the better medals higher. A lot of the sports world tends to have a "winner take all" mentality, but I wish people celebrated 2nd and 3rd best more often, because most of the time, that's a really huge accomplishment.

We actually *under*perform when taking all that into account. At the last Olympics the US won 3x the medals of Germany and France, despite having ~4x the population of Germany, and ~5x the population of France. Look at any other similar Western country and the US almost always underperforms in the medal comparisons relative to population.
I mean this is kinda true but think about if the US was split into, say, 5 different countries. Would you expect those five countries to get more individual medals or fewer? I think youd get more just by virtue of being able to potentially send more people overall to compete. Medals involving team sports could take a hit in that case, theoretically, since talented players might be split up.

One of my physics professors in college told the story of how he represented himself in a court and tried to use math+physics to prove that he couldn't possibly have been speeding. He apparently hadn't been speeding and there was another car they confused with his.

Apparently the judge told him something like, "the laws of mathematics don't apply to this courtroom" and he had to pay the fine anyway.

Hope it goes well anyway, though.

I'll say 6/10.

Just finished a true pacifist route a week or two ago. I tend to like games that do things different but this game seemed kind of weird at parts and was kind of hit or miss. Like the Papyrus date sequence and then Undyne just letting her house burn down just seemed weird to me. Also the sequence at the end of the Neutral pacifist run with Flowey was really freaky and borderline jump scare I guess I could talk about the good parts, like Alphys hacking the system to get you through but I see a lot of high scores so I thought I'd try to defend a lower score.

I didn't do the genocide route. I'll let my characters keep their happy ending, heh. I heard that from a gameplay perspective, it's very boring finding all the enemy encounters, aside from 2 very tough bosses. I tend to dislike super bosses, so I doubt I'd find it fun. Plus I was kind of sick of the game after playing through it twice. I did read the FAQ though. Maybe I'll watch that video linked earlier too.

Without trying to say too much, I think you're on the right track as far as some ideas to trigger additional endings. I remember not being able to figure out the right doors to go through myself. If you want this limited down some, the following doors are dead ends at this point, so don't bother doing those again if you want more endings (I don't recall whether any additional dialog would be possible here): door 2 and door 3.

IIRC, if a character has auto-reflect, Ozma will not use a reflectable spell against that character. This means auto-reflect is usually bad because spells like Holy being single target is usually better than alternatives that attack everyone. Beserk is the exception to this, which Ozma will cast at certain HP thresholds.

I don't think it checks elemental absorption though.

Hippaul can be raced only in Disc 3 when exploring Alexandria as Vivi. If you take him to some really high level, you get a key item, the Athlete Queen, that you get nowhere else. The key item does nothing and apparently can be really annoying to get.

Ozma counters attacks against it with its own attacks or healing, so you need to be really calculating about what attacks you use against it and when. Only use high damage attacks. I read a FAQ to understand his attack patterns and when the best time was to attack. Finishing the friendly monster sidequest really helps too. IIRC, I used Eiko, Dagger, and Amarant in order to have two healers who could also do a lot of damage, and Amarant for throwing Wing Edges.

Eiko does kind of outshine Dagger once you're on disc 4. Holy tends to do better than Dagger's summons, and Eiko's Double White trance is one of the few ways to get more than 9999 damage in one turn. There aren't that many battles in Memoria against multiple targets either, IIRC, so Holy being single target isn't too bad.

That said, I kind of like the two healer party myself.

For Dagger's last summon, there's an item you can get that has it, and it's not a weapon. Here's more info about how to get it, but I recommend playing more before reading:

It's in Memoria. There's an optional, hidden boss that gives you access to the item that has it. I think you can also steal it from Ozma, but most will probably use this way.

I want to say this game has more hidden AP than Cold Steel 1. However, fortunately you can still get the highest rank if you miss some. I know I missed some of the ones from battles and didn't get the highest rank until the very last optional sidequest. That said, if you're also missing some of the optional quests too, there's a good chance you may miss out on the highest rank anyway.

Edit: also, what's the infinite money glitch?

Funnily enough, this sidequest was missing from all of the gamefaqs guides for over a decade, so a lot of people presumably had "perfect" files that missed this sidequest...!
It was basically "discovered" a few years ago, which is impressive for an old game like this. Maybe someone found it before then, but it's not an intuitive sidequest to find at all. Finishing this involves a lot of backtracking, so it sounds kind of annoying. If you do this, then you'll be one of the few to actually complete it, since most don't even know about it.

Ozma is weird. It doesn't have a lot of HP, but it can randomly heal itself for a lot, and it can do so as a counter to any action you perform against it. Understanding the mechanics of Ozma really helps. You kind of need some luck too.

Ozma was the last of the PSX FF super bosses that I beat. FF7 and FF8 super bosses had a lot of HP and did a lot of damage. Beating them was more about figuring out which multi-hit moves did the most damage and figuring out how to do those moves over and over again while also not dying. FF9 doesn't have any real power moves like that, so an Ozma boss with lower HP is tough in a different way, and needs a different approach.

You might want to check other shops too, because a lot of them change. Note that there's one outside of Oelvert that's easy to forget. If an equipment has a new ability for someone, it's safest to just buy it to make sure you don't miss out.

It's kind of interesting that they start in opposite roles when Eiko joins, since she has more summons than Dagger at that point but Dagger has had more time to learn white magic. But as the game progresses they eventually switch specialties.

Maybe I should clarify that. I don't know that U-Materials are necessarily easy to farm in this game, but you tend to have a lot more extras than the first game. In the first game, I remember spending most of them on upgrading weapons; in the second game, you don't need as many for that purpose.

Personally, I spent more U-Materials on orbment upgrades than on accessories (I can't remember making a single accessory).

I remember the blue chests being some of the toughest fights, though it should generally be possible to do them right away even if youre underlevelled. It helps to at least have full CP for both characters. Sometimes one max S craft will take out the generic enemies, just leaving the main boss. Do this right away with one character and then use your other character to keep both alive until the first one starts getting turns.

Protect against status effects if you can, but if you cant you can just restart until they dont hit.

I didnt do too much with crafting accessories myself, but U Materials are way easier to get than the first game, so pendulums may be a good investment.

Oh, also, it was alluded to earlier but there are definitely missable things from shops and even missable abilities tied to missable equipment. The stuff you get from stealing, at least early, is stuff you can get later anyway.

IIRC, I don't think there's any straight up missable things you can only get through stealing from a boss. Though I believe there are in rare cases extra copies of limited availability things you can get by stealing. Though I think this is only late in the game anyway.
