I also didn't really like FF3 DS too much. It was kind of bland, and on top of that the final dungeon was multiple hours long with multiple bosses and no save points, and if you lose to one boss you need to start the whole thing over. I would recommend the Bravely series over FF3 DS if you wanted a good game based on the job class system.

I did play FF1 on Origins and it had a certain charm to it, and would recommend it. It has updated graphics compared to the NES version but keeps a lot of the gameplay the same. It also has a quicksave feature which I used more than I should have.

FF2 on Origins was kind of bad, though, mostly because of the levelling system. I wouldn't be surprised if the remake is better.

I was wondering the same thing. The Newsweek article made it sound like no, but they had employed 150 people to do that, and they said some were near release which could come out. It would seem odd to announce that you're not releasing games, and then actually release the ones near release, but I guess that's what it sounds like if I'm understanding the article.

Probably Gau's most broken rage is Rafflesia. These are the flowers in the painting you can fight in Owzer's mansion. The skill they use is Entice, which is like a charm spell that makes it so that the enemy can't hurt you. Enemies lack any sort of protection against this status, so it'll work on anything, even bosses. That said, Rafflesias are rare to run into on the Veldt, so it's hard to get this rage (this is due to how Veldt mechanics work. Some enemies are way more common than others).

Magic urn is another good one. It's not broken, but you inherit a lot of the elemental protection and status protection from magic urns, and can use Curaga. It's a good tank rage at least.

Also notable is Yojimbo. If you get this rage, Gau can use Leo's shock move. Not broken but still cool that you can get this.

Speaking of things I missed, I'm guessing Banon just died when Vector was mangled with the Floating Continent? I didn't see his body or a message from him anywhere. And was there anything I missed with Siegfried and his impostor?
You didn't miss anything. I agree that the Siegfried/Ziegfried thing felt unfinished. You can fight Siegfried in the Colisseum if you bet a Megalixir. He's really hard though and it doesn't really advance his plot in any way. There's also a rage coded for Gau for Siegfried, based on this Colisseum appearance, but it can never be obtained since Colisseum formations don't get added to Veldt formations. it will always be a blank spot on the rage list without hacking. Maybe they wanted to do more with this.

The obvious 'flaw' I keep coming to is just that there wasn't enough. I wanted more scenes, more lines, more interaction, just more of each character
Yeah, this is kind of a negative aspect of doing the World of Ruin the way they did. You can pick anyone you want to go recruit characters, so it's kind of hard to have the narrative interactions they had in the first half. I think the World of Ruin is still fairly well done as far as open ended things go.

Going with the "mature" theme, I think this was reflected even in the battle system. I remember first playing this game on the SNES being somewhat in awe that I could use most attacks I wanted on either enemies or party members, and there were even legitimate reasons to, like using fire to cure being frozen, or killing your party members for Wrexsoul. Also, there being attacks that target both allies and enemies reflects this too, (namely, Crusader esper and Meltdown) like you're being given a lot of power and need to learn how to handle it yourself, and not use stuff carelessly. Needing to use 12/14 characters for the final dungeon is fairly bold too. All of these aspects are rarely things I see in other RPGs.

I did the exact same thing with the inn in Thamasa for the exact same reason. Seems odd that he can't trigger dreams there, even if he is connected with it.

Personally, I almost never do grindy post game things like Soul Shrine, these days. I did end up fighting the boss and completing Soul Shrine, since FF6 is one of my favorite games, but I completely understand if you want to skip this. Soul Shrine honestly was a bit stressful with some of the later encounters, and not really my favorite thing. Personally, I skipped out on a lot of the extra dungeons in FF4 on PSP as well as some of the bosses in FF5A's extra content. If you're ready to move on, I'd say move on.

Unlike other gravity attacks, Gravija actually does work on bosses, and pretty much everything else. It's often a reliable 9999 on enemies, if they have a lot of HP.

Also, if you redo the dungeon you just did again, there's a different final boss at the end. Not sure if you need to do Soul Shrine first, but I don't think you do.

Apparently the reason the enemies dont give AP in the bonus dungeon is due to a glitch with formations that have a number higher than 256 or 512, or something like that. The formations in the main game are all under this but the new ones with new enemies had to be put in the higher range. One little known thing is Terras morph regenerates based on gaining AP after a battle, so if youre using it, you may notice it not recharging so much in this dungeon.

Magic stat is the most important stat in FF6, which is why Terra, Celes, and Relm are pretty powerful. There are also a few things that use magic stat instead of other stats to determine damage, including most of Sabin's blitzes (at least the best ones do). The scaling that takes place for magic increases is generally more dramatic than other status.

Also, going back to an earlier comment, FF6 is my favorite FF, though I'll admit FF5 has the better battle system. I would give FF6 the edge over FF5 in most other ways though. I'm glad the Bravely series takes after FF5 instead of FF6 in that regard.

If you do not recruit a character, their turn in the ending still takes place, but instead of a scene with them, it'll just show you screens from an area, either relating to backstory or a clue on how to recruit them. If you don't recruit Terra or don't bring her into the tower, she still flies over, so the ending doesn't change that much, though I don't think you can use her in the final battle in that case.

I agree the final dungeon really is great and I do like how it forces you to use most of your characters. Relm is actually really good if you teach her magic, though if you havent been teaching her spells, shes better to leave behind. As for Setzer, theres actually a really interesting weapon he gets in the final dungeon called Fixed Dice, which gives him something unique.

As to Meltdown, Ultima is generally better but the one thing going for it is you can set up equipment like Fire Shields to absorb fire and hit the enemy while healing yourself. Actually, elemental defenses are one of the things to pay attention to. Armor that doesnt seem that special like the Minerva is actually a lot better than youd think when you check the element defense. Some equipment will occasionally make you weak to something too so watch out for that too.

There's a couple really good Rages. One in particular lets you apply a status to enemies that really shouldn't be able to be applied. That said, with rages in general it's tough to get specific ones, especially later in the game when there are more enemy formations can appear in the veldt. I would say to experiment with what you have to see what's the best. I'm sure we could give you a list of the best ones (maybe someone has a handy list). I will say Stray Cat is a really good one that I think you start with. Also, Yojimbo is great, not because it's necessarily overpowered but for a different reason that I won't spoil; he's an enemy in Kefka's tower so you can't get him yet, though.

For Lores, Mighty Guard is one that is really good to have. I checked a guide and it says to sketch a land ray on solitary island to get it. I'm sure there are other ways. There are quite a few that are learnable in Kefka's tour that are good.

Genji Armor gives you air anchor. It's quite a useful armor, though. I don't recall how tough the fight is. You can get more Genji Armors by betting some of Strago and Relm's equipment, namely the Tabby Suit, Chocobo Suit, Moogle Suit, and Nutkin Suit. These are part of a chain that eventually leads to Genji Armor, then Air Anchor. You get one copy of each of these from chests, IIRC, and are only available as rare drops/steals from certain enemies, so they're sorta limited.

Yeah, its one of those things thats very difficult to get without a guide. I definitely didnt. The NPC hint is too vague, unless you start searching next to every chest or something. If anyone was able to get it on their own, then props to them.

I just looked it up and it is a rare steal from one of the enemies in Kefkas tower and also available in the Coliseum. So, I guess there are other ways to get it at least.

If you havent found Edgars last tool yet, youre unlikely to find it on your own at this point, at least in the original SNES intended way. I dont recall whether GBA-added monsters have it as a steal or drop.

Go back to the Cultists tower, where you got Strago. Go up to the first room with treasure. Search to the right of the treasure chest. This opens up a hidden room below it that has the air anchor.

Ultima definitely bypasses reflect.

There's actually an interesting quirk with that Samurai Soul fight in that if you manage to confuse him he...uses a move on himself that kills himself. One thing I appreciate about this game is AI quirks like that and how it sometimes rewards you for trying out different strategies.

Fake Mustache is definitely helpful for Lore hunting, too.

Also, theres a choice youll make likely soon. Heres a hint on the best strategy if youre interested: youll have a choice between an esper and a weapon. In the GBA version, its best to choose the Esper, as its possible to get other copies of the weapon. This wasnt possible in the SNES version, and you could only get one or the other.

The Storm dragon is one of the harder dragon fights, despite the game inching you to get Cyan first. The chaos dragon is not one of the 8 dragons.

Be aware that Deathgaze does randomly attack you while flying and he does have some hard hitting attacks, so it would behoove you to save a lot. Also, IIRC he generally opens up with level 5 death, so make sure at least one character survives that too.

FYI, if you didn't have Celes with you for the Floating Continent, she would have just appeared there when you approached Kefka/Gestahl, and the scene would have been the same. She would have been your 4th party member for the timed escape too.

7 dances is the most you could have gotten up to this point, so you didn't miss any. You can get the last one later.

There aren't really any missable Lores in the GBA version, due to the extra optional content. There is one that one of the last bosses uses that's more annoying to get if you don't get it there, though (not that it's especially good).

I don't think there's anything like the Brave Blade or Chicken Knife in this game, unless there's something in the extra content I'm forgetting. There shouldn't be any downside (or upside) to running.

There are two specific slots that can kill your entire team. One is 7-7-bar. The game does not rig the first or second slot, and it does rig the third slot, to either help you or hurt you. It will not rig the 3rd slot in your favor to hurt you, at least. To explain the rigging more, it's RNG whether you can get some of the better skills - if the RNG doesn't favor something, it won't let you match it. But it basically always helps you get some of the weaker stuff, and the weaker stuff can do good damage.

The other one to be aware of is bar-bar-bar. This will summon a random esper. In most circumstances, this is fine but there is one specific, late game esper that will do an attack that hits both you and the enemy for pretty big damage, which can often kill you. This is also an issue with the magicite item that summons a random esper.

It's probably not worth the risk to go for 7's, or probably even bar's, but if you go for anything else, you should be fine. For what it's worth, these are the two things that are rigged most against you.

FYI, you can change your equipped weapon and shield in battle, in case you find your weapon doesn't work on the enemy.

Slots aren't too bad, IMO. I don't think I've ever gotten the insta-game over reel. Be aware that it's not as skill based as you might think. The game will both cheat in your favor for certain things and against you for others. Some of the easier to get things are fairly decent.

Technically, there are limit-like attacks called desperation attacks but its very rare for it to actually happen and its easy to go the entire game without seeing one. A character has to do a regular attack at critical health and then theres a small percentage chance of the desperation attack coming out. The desperation attack is usually just a stronger version of the characters attack, and not worth trying to get or anything.
