I haven't played Macho Koro 2, but Macho Koro 1 with the expansions is a lot better IMO.

I played a bunch of Machi Koro without expansions and with a static marketplace boils down to everyone basically does one of a couple strategies (buying up multiple copies of cheaper cards and then buying whatever more expensive card plays off those cheaper ones). Whoever gets to one card type first goes that one, and then the other player goes for a different card type and whoever hits their rolls best wins. The dynamic marketplace makes it feel like a different game each time, where you need to think through what's available and can't depend on certain cards being there.

I don't care a ton about trophies... but tying the "collect all curiosities" trophy to the challenges, which already has its trophy, is bad.
I agree with this. I did all the sidequests, but I didn't feel like doing all those Chronolith challenges for the last curiosity. I mean, I tried the Shiva one and it wasn't bad from a gameplay perspective, but I have other games I'd rather get to at this point.

It's a good thing I don't bet, I'm awful against the spread lol
Odds-makers are pretty good at figuring out spreads. It's basically a 1/4 shot to get two right unless the spreads move enough after they're posted here. I would definitely skip level 3. Level 5 is the same way with over/under. I'm one bonus point away from skipping level 5, which I'll do if it comes down to it.

Just finished this game. A couple thoughts:
  • I'm not always the most patient with action games, so I didn't mind this being an "easy" game, heh. I was paying more attention to when to use my abilities than watching attack patterns and trying to avoid them, though I did need to learn to avoid a few attacks (I spammed dodge a lot). By the end I think I was starting to figure out an optimized way to use the abilities, so I didn't struggle as much then. I think the combat was better than XV at least, where I was largely just spamming potions. Not as good as FF7R, since that had some better party management.
  • People complain about the lack of minigames, but I feel like the Eikon fights had some of this covered. I may not be the best at action games, but I'm better at them than at rail shooters. I was getting really impatient during some of those sections. Glad they didn't make those harder. For that matter, during the final boss, I wasn't able to figure out how to dodge attacks during the Eikon part. I just kinda tried to outdamage him, which fortunately worked. Perhaps I missed a mechanic but I think these sections were kinda too rare and spread apart to get any real practice on to learn.
  • The political intrigue was interesting, though pretty brutal. It has to be one of the most brutal games I've played. I suppose the graphical style adds to this. I also played Triangle Strategy, which is pretty brutal too, but being sprite based, it didn't have the same feel to it.
  • One thing I felt in this game that's different from other FFs if you spend way more time in these small podunk towns than in big, important cities. I kinda wanted to explore Oriflamme early and never got to at all. There were segments in the other big cities like Kanvar, Crystaline Dominian, Rosalith, etc. but they were all action sections, aside from the very beginning in Rosalith. You never got to really talk to people or do quests there or anything like that. The big cities were basically dungeons. I guess it's possible they wanted to contrast this with FFVII Remake, since that was almost 100% in a big city.
  • I think I'm done with this game. Not planning to buy any DLC. I did all the sidequests, which I didn't think were as bad as people say. Actually, I didn't mind the mundane ones because every so often one that seems mundane ends up being surprisingly interesting e.g. the ones in Moore and Theodore dying, both of which caught me off guard. However, I also kinda just was ready for the game to be over toward the end. The action RPG genre isn't one I play a lot, but I figured being a mainline FF and having a pretty good demo meant that I wanted to finish this. It did feel like a complete game at least.

Yeah the hard ones being optional is why I was able to beat the game without completing them. I do remember there being some tricky ones with regrowing grass, but I suppose I did beat those. Maybe some day...

I like all types, and to mix things up. Based on your descriptions, I picked hard. I enjoyed the Witness and solved all the puzzles except maybe 2 without help (couldn't complete the big timed one at the end, though). A game like the Witness is conceptually simple enough to still be fun. Though "hard" puzzles that are computationally difficult aren't always fun. I'm thinking of hard sudokus or chess problems which require thinking lots of moves ahead.

I prefer games that actually have solutions so the one you call easy would not be something I'd like as much.

It is one of the most unique games I've ever played. But if you get it, just be aware that it is insanely hard. It will melt your brain. But if you stick with it, you will find it so rewarding. If you give in to looking up solutions, it will send you down a path where you will lose appreciation for the game. Because, if you look up one, what personal drive will stop you from looking up more. And when you look up more, you have removed the game from the game; there is no real story or dexterity required...it is 100% puzzle. You won't have the desire or patience to suffer while your brain explodes staring at the same level for 3 hours, so you'll just look them up in less and less time, and you won't get these euphoric rushes as the solution finally clicks after hours. You will take the easy way out. Only get Baba Is You if you have the fortitude to put your brain through hell. The level design for the game is some of the best I've seen for a puzzle game; nothing feels repetitious. The game is constantly adding new mechanics, and keeps using them in ways that feel fresh. And if you do plan to get it, don't look up anything in depth about it. One of the things that kept blowing me away was how deep down the rabbit hole you start going. I just kept wondering when or how or what the end of the game was going to be, and it kept doing things.

It's not a game for everyone as you can see from the feedback here. The game will lull you into this false sense of confidence with the tutorial levels where you get impressed with the novelty while solving stages in 5 minutes. Then it crushes you. If you do play it, make a topic here about your ongoing experience!
Thanks. I did end up picking this up and played a few puzzles. Not so hard so far, but I expect that to change. Making a topic is an idea, though a lot of times I play through games (especially puzzle games) in spurts, and might leave them alone for months at a time. It does sound pretty fun from your description.

Yeah, for puzzle games I'm really slow to look up solutions. I beat all the puzzles in Crashmo, Pushmo World, and Fire n Ice without looking any up. Maybe some others too. I've stared at puzzles in those games for long periods of time and came back to them later like you said. I'll admit I did look up maybe 3-4 times for Captain Toad (which I got 100% on not including the big mazes).

I just finished Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and was thinking about getting another puzzle game for the Switch (for portability). Sounds like Baba Is You could be a fun one to check out.

Of this list, I beat the Witness and Superliminal. Both were fun. Downloaded the Looker but ended up deleting it before finishing. Also played World of Goo for a few minutes on Wii. I guess I don't play many indie games, but I'll look out for other ones on this list.
