If you take the worst case scenario, that were not alone, and the only reason nobodys picking up the phone is that by doing so, then they alert their presence to whatever galactic super predator everybodys hiding from.

Do you think there will come a time when we legitimately have to think about shutting down SETI/METI because of the threat of a potential enemy civilisation? Although unlikely, the consequence of this scenario being true could wipe us out. In which case wed be better off staying off the grid and out of sight.

Im literally in same boat as TC. If this was four weeks ago I would be glued to Pokemon shield right now, already put 350hrs into it.

all my time sink games just seem so boring now; sims 4, Pokemon shield, Civ 6, NBA 2k.

Games Ive literally sunk thousands of hours into now just seem so bleh. Luckily my depression aint coming back yet.

So @ZBug_ apparently the virus invades the epithelial cells of the lungs, and sends cytokines to neutrophils and Killer T cells, which upon arrival at the site of infection, get overwhelmed by even more cytokines sent out by the virus that they overreact and go into kill everything mode, including the epithelial cells theyre trying to save.

so my dad finished chemo last week and they said his white cells were now above normal, normally that would be good. But considering he now has more whitecells than normal the likelihood is more of them are available to overreact and kill the epithelial cells of the lungs, am I right?

by virtue of having more white cells than normal, is my dad doomed to have a severe reaction to the virus once he catches it as he will have more cells available to overreact to the infection? And once you have the severe reaction, what determines how likely you are to survive? Hes 61 and generally fit, except for the high BP and obvs the cancer which is now gone.

Hey Turts, the number in the UK is more like 80% expected to actually contract the virus. The vast majority displaying mild or moderate symptoms, a small proportion will be asymptomatic or have more aggressive symptoms and its out of those where youll see the most deaths. (Deaths coming from those displaying serious symptoms btw not from those who are asymptomatic)

i still dont understand how people like TC can exist. This is one of the most infectious diseases weve seen, and is massively disruptive to communities and local economies due to that insane rate of infection. Theres a graphic about how it compares in terms of mortality and infectiousness historically and its one of the worst in terms of combination of the two.

the problem is people who live under a rock who think this is no big deal or make the asinine argument that this is just another flu or say x diseases kills more people daily or x inanimate object kills more people but we dont freak out over x.

you are totally missing the point, the point is that this disease spreads like crazy. And in the process of spreading like crazy you might be fine and I might be fine (hence why most people think its just a flu) but what about your parents and grandparents?

I agree nobody needs to scaremonger and panic about this but at the same time really need to take the right precautions not just to protect yourself but to protect the elderly and vulnerable.

To start producing ventilators etc. We obviously still need the workers to operate them but yeah definitely needs to be a national effort to

1) produce the equipment needed
