It did poorly during it's initial theatrical release, but then a number of places made it a midnight showing and it grew in popularity.

As it got bigger people would cosplay as their favorite character. Viewers could get up on stage and act out a scene while it was playing on screen. You'd shout out certain words when something specific happened in the film, and some theaters put together packages of items you'd use during certain scenes. On top of all that is the music, especially Time Warp. I've never attended a show but I hear they're fun. On the dvd extras is audio of a group viewing, and it's a riot.

This is my understanding of it. It was really popular to go to midnight showings at my high school, and there was a big culture of hooking up at them >_> nobody else I've spoken to about RHPS screenings ever mentions having had the same thing happen so I guess we were just some horny teens

Also doenjang jigae is pretty pungent for some people. Some people I work with here, like full blooded Koreans, cringe at the smell. So I would defer to one of the other jigaes to be safe.

For the side dishes, I would suggest choosing whatever you have available that you can make the most of. Most Koreans will go hard on the side dishes and need constantly refills of whatever is available.

i can make the bean sprouts, potato salad and/or braised potatoes in huge batches so this is super helpful, thanks. i rarely go for a refill on any banchan myself so i hadn't considered this.

If they're from Korea, or at least if they eat Korean food regularly, they should get to try something new when they visit.

Because if you make them something Korean, it will probably be a slightly shittier/blander version of what they would eat all week at home, because you're not the best at making it yet.

Whereas if you cook them something you're good at making, it could be a nice new experience while they're away from home.

my very-korean roommate is having 2 cousins stay over and he can't cook for shit so i'm in charge of making sure the poor guys get at least one familiar meal in

i've done a very cursory google search and from what i've found the typical korean week-night meal consists of the following (OR DOES IT?!):

short-grain white rice, steamed

one of the following:
doenjang jigae
kimchi jigae
sundubu jigae

plus one of the following:
bulgogi
samgyeopsal
grilled fish

plus 2-3 banchan (one has to be cabbage kimchi, and then bean sprouts, pickled radish, potato salad, braised egg, braised potato, fish cake etc)

cheap delivery takeout tends to be jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and/or jjampong

does this seem accurate and/or am i missing anything

i've made all of these before except the fish cake side dish (is that typically just bought?) and doenjang jigae

Well that's the problem, if you're privileged enough to be able to support the current incarnation of the GOP then that means politics has such little impact on you that it might as well be a preference on jean fit. I really, really struggle to communicate to people who support Trump that there are actual policy consequences to this, that it isn't just a culture-war anime tournament arc where an election happens and then a 4-year off-season where you gloat about the victory to people who prefer mimosas over natty lites.

I think this is disconnect that we're seeing when topics like this happen, where some people (pretty much always conservatives) seem dumbfounded at taking politics seriously enough to end a friendship over it. "It's just my team, bro! It ain't that serious!" while people die from lack of health care or can't visit family members due to bullshit travel bans (ahem).

I played 64 and sunshine both when I was about 10 and so in my mind they were both amazing, but revisiting them with this remaster it's become clear to me that the levels in 64 are way better designed

all those hours playing soldier and zarya in overwatch came in handy
