i suspect it's so Trump can replace him with someone who hasn't been recused and will neuter Mueller. Trumpy knows Mueller is going to drop bombs real soon and wants to limit his power ASAP

Yeah, he doesn't have to fire Mueller, just shoot down everything he wants to do and give him a budget of $1.
Subtlety is obviously not Trump's forte though, so I expect it'll get dumber.

This was a mixed result. The Democrats come out a bit ahead(what with winning back control of the House of Representatives and all), but the Senate results *were* a bit disappointing for them, as was Andrew Gillum's (somewhat) surprising loss in the Florida gubernatorial election.
They did; however, make some impressive gains on the state level(Florida notwithstanding), including complete control of New Mexico, Colorado, New York, and Connecticut.

Basically, American elections are staggered.
The House of Representatives has two-year terms and all 438 seats are up(this is too few, but that's another topic)
The President is elected every 4 years, and can only serve 2 terms total*.

The Senate has 6 year terms, but they're staggered. About 1/3 are up every election year. This bunch of Senate seats was very advantageous for the Republicans.

*2 FULL terms. In other words, if a Vice President becomes President more than half way into a term, they can still serve an additional two terms.

Picking up seats in the Senate is very good for them, as the next two cycles are going to be hard on them and they can more easily pack the judiciary with chuds.
Also, winning the Governor's Mansion in Florida and (likely) Connecticut represent upset victories.

This hearkens back to when South Dakota called an emergency legislative session to repeal a successful anti-corruption ballot initiative, or when Texas passed a law banning restrictions on fracking after the city of Denton voted to do so within their city limits.

Voters in Nevada, Arizona, Texas, and Tennessee have shown up in droves to vote early, nearly matching the total number of votes cast in those states in 2014. Almost every other state with early-voting has seen a marked increase in turn-out as well.
This is great news, but what exactly this means is unclear as of yet.

I have a ton of nostalgia for it but mechanically it's not an amazing game. 3/5 if I'm being honest.

About where I am, yeah. Settled for 4. Mechnically and/or innovationally I think both the prequel and the sequel are superior.

Also the final fight was kinda bullshit.

One, it turns out your adorable flying mount who didn't do nuffin is the final boss. Then, the ONLY way to damage him is to have Hero use his sword skill, and generally does the best dps with a basic 100% swing instead of doing any significant charging. Meanwhile, both sprite and girl can't do jack shit but cheerlead Hero, notably casting the mana sword spell out of a level 1 Dryad because her spells are generally terrible and never cast unless you're leveling for this fight.

So all the other weapons you have, all the other elemental spells/buffs/whatever, all get thrown out the goddamn window and you need to go out to the back 40 and put Young Yeller out of his misery to save the world.

Yeah, the game would have benefited immensely from Thanatos being the final boss. He's been a major antagonist since early in the game, he's responsible for the cultists and kidnapping Dyluck and summoning the Mana Fortress. And, in a case of story and game mechanics aligning, he's weak to light, so the girl can fry his ass. Everything else still works too. And he even has an exclusive boss theme that's really great! No need to have to slaughter Flamey.
