The thing is they aren't supposed to completely change long running non spinoff series gameplay that it is well known because they risk alienating fans. They should have made a new IP real time or make a FF spinoff IP real time. Not the main series.

You know what else works like a pause button? The ability to hit a button and pause, not a weird glitch that requires you to find an answer online.

Hitting start and selecting quit game is not a glitch that is literally how it is intended to work

PS just quit out. That is why the game is constantly saving your position every 8-10 steps you are on solid ground

Yeah I understand that. Im not opposed to it or anything, but I do think any kind of feature like that should be new game plus and onwards. I feel like they dont expect you to do or get everything on the first playthrough

personally I love that it does not have one. People are memeing about immersion but not having a checklist genuinely does help their games feel special. Wouldnt care if they eventually introduced one in future entries. Im sure they could find a way to do so thats still insanely obtuse. Map markers were essentially that.
