I wouldn't mind a $5 minimum wage if cost of living were lowered to reflect it.
Minimum wage is pointless, cost of living needs to be controlled.

That's one option, sure. Not sure how well it'd work out in the long run; similar to how a minimum wage can kill jobs because the businesses don't want to (large) / can't (small) pay the new increase, businesses might also not be able to survive with cost caps in effect. But it might be at least a bit better, especially if very strictly applied only to absolute essentials.

More realistically, perhaps we need to look at what actual factors are driving the costs of these things so high, and how those factors can be mitigated, rather than just slapping a minimum wage or price ceiling bandage on them. Treat the cause, not the symptoms, basically.

At least one pizza chain here literally uses loopholes to get out of minimum wage (and pretty much all other legal requirements, except for that of providing a safe workplace); you get (converted to USD) about $4.40 per delivery and have to pay your gas out of that. And because the other two (that tend to be more popular) don't do this crap, people generally aren't used to there being any real reason to tip the delivery drivers.

Any violent or *real* sexual crime, as well as significant value thefts / property damage, and dealing of life-wrecking drugs. Perhaps for minor offences in the case of repeat offenders too; the whole idea behind prisons rather than executions is to give them a chance to reform, so if they continue to offend, it isn't working in their case so... back to plan A.

To clarify: By "real" sexual crime, I simply mean excluding stupid things like "hurr durr u took a piss under a tree ur a sex offender now". And by "life-wrecking" drugs, I'm meaning shit like meth or heroin; not relatively harmless stuff like weed (I even support legalizing that kind of drug).

You'd think by now they'd realise that a "solution" that only helps short-term, and actually makes it harder for some, might not actually be a solution after all.

In the case of drug addicts, drugs are on the black market and thus tax-free. In a regime which legalizes and taxes them, with those taxes going towards health care for users, I'd see no problem with them getting that care.

For alcoholics and smokers, those products should have an excise tax on them that's precisely the amount needed (or as close as reasonably possible - certianly not a case like in New Zealand where the tobacco tax is enough to cover tobacco-related health costs several times over) to cover the extra health care costs associated with those things.

Well will this deter people from panhandling, borrowing money from others, getting alcohol or cigerattes illegaly or finding some way to bypass the higher prices?

If they panhandle / borrow money, those cigarette taxes are still getting paid.

If they steal it - well, I mean, the way our system works technically the taxes are paid there too, as the retailer would've paid them when buying the stock. The only part that isn't is the sales tax, which is puny compared to the excise taxes (especially on tobacco) here. And presumably, the taxes would be part of what their insurance then covers, if they have it.

The only way they can bypass the cost is to illegally import it (not easily done in NZ's case; our customs are pretty on to it and we're a couple of islands out in the middle of nowhere so the only way in is by air or by a VERY LONG boat ride - presumably from Australia, which is also pretty onto it with this kind of stuff, though the various Polynesian countries are also practical and those might be a bit more lax), or to grow / brew their own (which does happen and is officially legal; most smokers can't be bothered growing their own tobacco and often don't like the taste of homegrown so it doesn't really make a difference, while those who brew their own alcohol tend to be very responsible drinkers anyway in most cases and so don't incur much in the way of alcohol-related health costs).

This is generally what people who only care about the end-game of MMOs and MMOlikes do, just with turn based combat.

Don't MMOs usually have a huge focus on level grinding? What I'm suggesting here is literally the exact opposite of that - no grinding, it's all about carefully selecting your equipment and battle strategy. Likewise, the final boss wouldn't have hugely greater stats than the early-game bosses; rather, he'd have more access to nasty status effects, better AI, etc.

This is, of course, assuming we're dealing with a public health system in the first place. In the case of an insurance-based health system, instead of taxes it should be the insurance premiums for those who choose to use these things that make up the coverage. Obviously, in a "pay out of pocket" system, it's irrelevant - if they can afford the healthcare, they can get it.

So, a typical turn-based battle system, but your stats don't permanently increase. You can still get smallish boosts - maybe even as far as doubling them - through equipment. Likewise, you can still gain new abilities, but your stats / level never increase.

It goes without saying this would be in a game with a particularly strong focus on battle strategy, certianly not one where you follow the "attack, attack, heal" pattern and nothing else.

@Darktransient

Most times cops shoot to kill unarmed fleeing criminals not shooting to wound, that is fucked up and wrong. Yes the criminal should not flee but it does not give a cop the right to kill them if they do.

If they can reasonably apprehend the criminal, then they should not kill. If they must injure them in the process, that's fine. And if their only option is to kill, or if they accidentally kill while only intending to wound, that's fine too. Don't flee and you won't have that problem. And if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have no reason to flee - don't buy into the lies BLM and the like tell you about "if you comply you're going to get shot", they WANT you to flee so that when you DO get shot for that, they can parade you around as an example of why police are "bad".

Although I'll gladly admit that my main reason for "they should apprehend rather than kill" is because ideally, after being apprehended they should receive a REAL punishment. At the very least, several years of hard labor. Wouldn't personally object to torture either, if the offence is serious enough. (Perhaps not for minor things like a bar fight, though.)

Well, whether I get defined as a "conservative" or a "liberal" seems to depend on who I'm talking to, but I'm fairly sure being in favor of gay marriage and cannabis legalization count as "liberal" viewpoints. (And on the flipside, I have plenty that'd be considered "conservative" too - for example, I'm anti-abortion and I'm all for death penalty for serious violent / sexual offences or dealing of actually-harmful drugs.)

I would cause no one gets to kill my pet and not have anything happen.

The police did not always kill pets, that shit is only recent, they used to get a stick and throw it, let you lock them up somewhere, or tell you to put your dog away.

This new bs of cops being able to just kill peoples pets is unfucking acceptable and people NEED to put a stop to it one way or another.

Also shooting people that are running away because they are either too fat or too lazy to chase them down.

Shooting pets needs to stop, unless there legitimately is a danger.

On the other hand, shooting a fleeing criminal is fine. If they have nothing to hide, they won't flee. If they get away, they remain a danger to the community. Non-fatal shots should be preferred when possible, but if you have to kill them... no big deal.

No. They do not mean luck in suddenly finding yourself with a huge sum of money. They mean luck of being born into a good background that gives you advantages over other people. Good education, parents being stable financially, and even just meeting the right people at the right time are all things you cannot control but influence your ability to earn money.
