In good news EVO is this weekend. Yay for fighting games. Also, i foubd my long lost copy of Street Fighter V. It was in my case in replacement of my monopoly game. Goofy nieces.

This guys I know we used to do Smash tournies with won Evo for Smash PM. It was funny watching the announcers essentially dismiss him right up to the point where he 3-0 his opponent to win it all. Neat little nod to the surprisingly good competitive community in ABQ.

Didn't watch it on ESPN or anything, but it's kinda neat that's happening now. Made me realize I've been neglecting Smash 4 for too long now.

No. Even if it came out that Trump had absolutely nothing to do with Russian collusion (and option that has vanished as of just yesterday), pretty much his entire administration has in some form at this point. And as long as they are around, their shady associations with the Russians will be a sticking point.

Basically, after the FBI investigation (or hell, maybe before), only impeachment or firing of many in his inner circle will make this scandal go away. It's pretty much all Trump will be known for at this point.

Well, HE actually lives in a desert. The climate around most of NM is actually arid-steppe, since the Rocky Mountains run down the middle of the state. It only break 100 a few times the year and, unlike the South, there's 0% humidity unless it rains. I'm actually surprised how little tolerance I have for humidity anymore. We pretty much have no natural disasters- tornados are quite rare, and no blizzards, etc. Really bad earthquakes basically never happen. Wildfires are the common bad thing.

It IS very bright here, which I hate. And the we can experience every season of weather in 1 week from time to time. Otherwise, it's usually just sunny and bright.

I DO love food from the South, especially real Cajun, but our green/red chile is world famous, so there's that.

Does it mean "HEY ITS SUMMER PICK SUMMER"

or

"HEY ITS COLD THE SUMMER SETTING TURNS THE HEAT ON"

fuck if i know, but after i choose a setting ill know im a minute

Well, that's what this topic is about. A thermostat with this labeling is stupid, because there's no clear right and wrong answer. If you want it colder, switching it to "Winter" makes sense, because you want it to feel like winter, i.e., colder. Equally, the thinking could be "It already feels like winter in here, I want it to be warmer", so you switch it to winter.

In a vacuum, either has a valid case for being right. That said, as explained above, normal thermostats work by "Cool"=cooler, "Heat"=warmer. And yet, the majority in the topic picked "Summer", despite it being less logical based on how "normal" thermostats work.

Why?

For those who picked "Summer" to make it colder, why? I see some of you post the thinking you use "Summer", as in it feels like summer, so you want it to be cooler.

But every thermostat without this weird dial works differently. Think of the one in your home...you turn it to "cool" to make it colder, and "heat" or "heat on" on to make it warmer. So why switch the logic when the words "Summer" and "Winter" are used? Is it just the wording?

Is it really? Realistically speaking, you could play most of those games for free using emulators, or buying the ones you want in the Nintendo VC store on whatever console you have (assuming you have one). Likely with better controllers.

Well, we always talk about how much stuff in relatively worth, the value here is astounding. Assuming all $80 goes to just the games (and it doesn't, obviously a big chunk is the buying of the console/controllers), that comes out to a wee under $4/game, a better value than on any VC. Assuming one likes the games offered, it's very cost effective.

For me, I already own like 5-6 games from that lineup between my VC purchases, and while I support the idea in general, I don't really feel a need to get one. If I'm really craving playing any of these retro games of past, I'll just pick and choose which to buy on VC

No shit if somebody came into your house randomly are you allowed to shoot them. My question was how likely is it some random dangerous stranger comes into your house vs how likely you are to use the gun for other things

I'm sure there is pure break-in statistics somewhere (and likely by state/city), but I recall seeing a study this year that says your chance of being attacked during a home invasion is literally almost 0%. So, while you may technically have a right to shoot someone invading your house, if you're keeping a gun for self defense, instead of home defense, you're wasting your time, money, and statistically, putting yourself and others in greater harm over something that might be as likely as getting struck by lightning, depending on where you live.

tl:dr: Home and self defense has, and always will be, a poor ass excuse for gun ownership, which is why most other countries don't allow this justification.

Yeah, even if you assume the entire cost goes into the 21 games, that still comes out to about $4/game. But since a good chunk of that cost goes into the console itself, the price per game comes out even better than that. It's a very good deal.

I honestly haven't listened to anything Linkin Park since 2 (and I was obsessed with the first 2 albums)

I've heard singles from some following stuff but it's all so fucking different. I'll still listen to old stuff when it comes on the radio but damn did they change

3 (Minutes Til Midnight) ditched too much of the electronic sound they had in 1 and 2, and went more straight rock, which would have been fine if they didn't also ditch Shinoda on almost all the songs, and half the album wasn't this soft rock/super emo shit.

4 (A Thousand Suns) I hated almost instantly, because it's sooooooooooo out there. However, future listens have lead me to think it might hold some of their best stuff, and be the purest form of "evolving" their sound since 1 and 2. It's got enough Shinoda and electronic sound, but is less angry. Many of the songs kinda sound like an epic journey. I would recommend giving it a try. And some tracks like Wretches and Kings is straight-up old school LP.

5 (Living Things) feels like they are trying to get back to basics, but make some of the stumbles they did in 3. Some of the album's best tracks sound too made-for-radio, and others sound too different. Still, not bad.

6 (Hunting Party) really feels like the closest to to 1 & 2 yet. The anger and fire has returned, with lots of Shinoda appearances. It still doesn't *quite* have enough Chester vs Shinoda stuff to feel like original LP, but nothing probably ever will at this point. Give it and try and skip the other albums, if you feel like only trying one.

7 (One More Light) is fucking hot, flaming trash. Holy shit, I could barely make it through the album. It's 100% soft-pop (yes, pop), commercially produced crap. Each song is literally indistinguishable from each other, and the entire thing feels like it was make my an executive telling them to make safe, bleach-washed radio songs. There's not a single redeeming moment on the album, and you could be forgiven for not even knowing it was LP.

I've had people tell me they just couldn't get into Westworld, for example, and when they listed the reasons why, it became clear most of her issues stemmed from her binge watching it, when it's definitely more of a slow-burn show.

And politicians that support such easy access to rapid-firing high capacity magazine guns, too. It's like laser-guided karma! Especially timely, given that apparently the sound of the gunfire helped alert them to take cover faster and aided the police in figuring out where it was coming from more quickly...right as the same people who were just shot at are trying to make it easier to get silencers for guns. I feel like there's a lesson to be learned here, but...nah, I guess not.

Bad on the Republicans, though. I would've expected, based on their rhetoric, that every republican there would be carrying their own guns and could thus solve the crisis on their own by having dozens of "good guys with guns" opening fire in a crowded area, too.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It should be noted that Scalise also voted down a bill that would have disallowed the mentally ill from possessing firearms (not saying this dude was mentally ill, unless you're the type that thinks shooting people in general is evidence enough of mental illness), but perhaps the most tragic thing about this is the sheer irony of it all. The hearing on silencers got canceled after this, so at least there's that.

Wow, you nailed that! Even knowing that FPTP is the root cause of our political dysfunction. Just...quoted for truth.

I keep making the mistake of assuming people who attempt to speak politics already know this, but then they resort to lazy "pffft 2 party system" snips, as if it's that easy.

Do you think Kathy Griffin's holding a Donald Trump severed head, or replacing Julius Caesar as Donald Trump was any coincidence?

About as much as a coincidence of numerous hanging Obama effigies and the exact same playgroup using Obama's likeness years ago does. And that's about as much attention I'll give your insane ass.

Sorry, but the 1970s are on the phone. And apparently some people calling themselves the Weather Underground apparently want to talk to you?

A one-off group that has been defunct for nearly 50 years is calling me? Now that IS odd! I actually thought of the Weathermen as I typed this, but this is one of those "you show me 1, I'll show you 10" instances. That, and the Weathermen had such a specific agenda that it bears no relation to the politics of today.

Yes, the recent perception is that most of the violent nuts come out of the Right...

No, that's actually the historical perception. Which is important, because...

Or to put it another way, people are shits regardless of their politics.

...lazy "same things, both sides" beliefs don't help us solve the problem.

The far left is looking more and more like the alt right whu just recently commited a terrorist attack

lol. wake me up when the "far left" has 60+ straight years of cults and hate groups that perform target killings and plot government destruction. "Eco-terrorists" is about as close as the Left gets to matching the Right, terrorism wise.

The slime Rep. Chris Collins saying Democrats are the ones that need to "calm the rhetoric" is proof that God doesn't exist, because a lighting bolt should have came down and smote him for saying something so tragically ironic and hypocritical.

We need to get rid of the 2 party system

This would only work if you completely change our voting system, i.e., do away with First Past the Post. There's about a 0% chance of this happening anytime soon. Otherwise, a 2-party system is inevitable in a FPTP system.

That said, more parties won't cause the extinction of extremists.

Not just that, but MercuryStream - the people behind the abhorrent Lords of Shadow series - are the ones working on Metroid: Samus Returns. Thankfully, it looks like Nintendo has been keeping a stronger leash on them than Konami ever did, as this Metroid looks really good. Guess we'll see.

Well, Nintendo is notorious for being highly involved with their 2nd party teams and 3rd party tams sing their properties. Which is why the same Nintendo producer from the original Prime games being the one behind Prime 4 should alleviate most concerns. It's also very likely a 2nd party team. That said, I wonder WHY Retro isn't doing this, since they were so successful. Even if they are worrying on other projects, you'd think Nintendo would wait.

Nintendo's was nice. Nothing too crazy, Metroid Prime 4 being confirmed is huge, but with nothing to show yet, it's hard to get too crazy. Seeing some footage of Xenoblade 2 finally is nice, but most of it was just confirming dates and showing new footage of stuff already know, so meh. Metroid on 3DS, new Yoshi and Kirby are nice though, I really liked Wooly World. Mario XCOM continues to be intriguing. Dynasty Warrior games are trash, so the FE one does nothing for me.

Nintendo usually announces stuff all day, too, so more may come.

Overall though, this E3 was pretty lame.

I was astounded to learn that the PS2 was the weakest system of its generation

I'm astounded you didn't know this, I thought it was common knowledge that the GC was quite powerful, only slightly less than the Xbox. And it easily produced the best looking games of that era (R4 and The Metroid only really had Halo as their equal). Not that I ever care about graphics, but the PS2 looked like buttered ass in comparison. Part of why I think so many PS2 games aged so poorly, but plenty of GC and XBox ones still look playable. Anyone the controversy for when they ported RE4 to the PS2? They had to cut a lot of corners to get the thing to run.

PO basically got it backwards: It's how powerful the GC was, yet still managed to sell so poorly, that inspired Nintendo to stop trying to keep up in the tech arms race. They more or less took a page out of Sony's book console-power wise with the Wii, and basically swapped places with Sony for that gen. Power, essentially, is less important for gamers than commonly thought, and WAY less than what MS and Sony think.

I've never had a real problem with the games as-such, but I've always hated the controller with a passion.

See, the odd thing is, despite the N64 controller looking like it was designed for some hypothetical species of space lobsters or something, at the time I had no problem with it. It felt fine to hold, and besides the notorious problem with the poorly made joystick, I was largely OK with it. So must have a lot of people, because if it actually hindered gameplay, those great games wouldn't have been known as such.

That said, when I hold one these days, I'm like wtf is this shit? I slip back into it after a while, but yeah, it was definitely not as problematic for me when I was younger, for whatever reason. Oddly, I've ALWAYS disliked he PS controller designs. Everything is symmetrical and feels the same, making muscle memory shit in comparison.
