Did the congressional hearing convene after John Browns arrest at Harpers Ferry? If Brown led it, I would be more appalled by the poor strategy than the random violence. Brown did not take credit for it. What was the scholarship of the congressional committee that says Brown led the massacre? Keep in mind that a Representative went into the senate and beat a Senator with a walking stick during this period. What I mean by poor strategy is that Brown wanted abolitionists to stop slavery. Brown would have lost his cred if they thought he did that. I downloaded a file which is supposed to be WEB DuBois' biography of Brown but my phone's pdf readers cannot open it. Otherwise I would look to see what DuBois' says. I am not sure about the break down for Dupage County Illinois. Dupage county is suburban and Republican but close enough to Chicago to have high housing costs.
