I'm fine with random battles. FFX has random battles and it has one of my favorite battle systems ever. It has random battles and is fast as fuck. I just don't like the camera flying around the arena for a half hour before each battle.

There is a definitive version if you don't limit yourself to the official shit.

I still don't understand how they managed to make a lengthy climatic airship battle boring. In this regard, Final Fantasy 9 packed more excellence into 30 seconds of FMV than 12 could muster over 15+ minutes. Sky Fortress Bahamut being a visually-uninteresting asspull certainly didn't help things.

Final Fantasy 9 had twenty minutes of swooshing around the battlefield before every battle. It might be a good game if every battle didnt take forever to get going.

Huh? Chrono Trigger is one of the shortest RPGs out there. You can easily beat it in less than 20 hours. Unless you just have to do NG+ and get every single ending or something.

I started this game again the other day. I can't understand how it stands next to stuff like Earthbound and FF6. I just don't see what others see :/. Ive tried so many times and just never feel impressed. I don't know what Im missing.

EarthBound's battle system is no more advanced than Dragon Quest's from nine years prior. And Final Fantasy VI falls to shit soon after the World of Ruin starts.
