The European Medicines Agencys top scientist stated Tuesday that the pandemic is ongoing after U.S. President Joe Biden declared that the health crisis was over. I cannot honestly answer why President Biden came to that conclusion, the regulators chief medical officer, Steffen Thirstrup, told journalists during a briefing. What is clear to me is that we in Europe still consider the pandemic as ongoing, that it's important that member states prepare for rollout of the vaccines, and especially the adaptive vaccines to prevent further spread of this disease in Europe, Thirstrup added. In an interview that aired late on Sunday in the U.S., Biden declared: The pandemic is over, adding: We still have a problem with COVID. Were still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over. The off-the-cuff remark caught Biden's own senior health officials by surprise. The U.S. president had not originally planned to make major news on COVID, nor had he discussed with his health advisers announcing an end to the pandemic soon, two senior officials said.

There are concerns that such comments from positions of authority may impact efforts to curb any further waves of infection this winter. Most countries in Europe have launched fall booster campaigns this month, including offering new vaccines from Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer that have been adapted to the Omicron strains of the coronavirus. But uptake of even the first boosters has been significantly lower than that of primary vaccination courses. Thirstrup noted that early polls are suggesting that, even with adapted vaccines, there is a limited appetite for further shots. We've seen polls in the Netherlands and Hungary pointing to a large degree of hesitancy among the general population for having these boosters, which I find very concerning, he said. The EMA, alongside the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, has repeatedly urged people to accept whatever booster that is now offered to them as the colder weather nears, and COVID and other respiratory infections are likely to rise.

There are times where I would agree with this but I don't think you or anti-vaxxers realize that ignoring Covid affects everyone else.

Europe will be harmed by the US pretending Covid has gone away when it hasn't.

More variants that vaccines are less effective against will be created. More empty chairs at empty tables, more over-crowded hospitals.

The knock on effect hits everyone.

No one cares if you poop on your own living room floor.

But if you fly around in a helicopter and poop out of the side onto random people, "Mind your own fucking businsess! It's MY helicopter!" no longer applies as a defense.

I feel like a lot of people on CE from a year and a half ago would be irate at their current selves and their actions.

That is, if they weren't empty shells filled by whatever outrage they're told to feel angry about most recently.

But that's their prerogative so whatever.

If you think it isn't, by comparison, far better than it was during Delta then you're a moron.

Sooo thousands of deaths every day and going up (from figures that are now months old) is fine?

Do you know what helps cause Delta and the other variants? Copious amounts of people getting covid, largely due to pretending it doesn't exist.

Do you know how many hospitals are full and struggling?

Get a jab, wear a mask. Try to avoid large groups, work from home if you can. It's not hard.

But that's their prerogative so whatever.

It's why I don't take anything here seriously. It's like no one thinks for themselves and are just a bunch of people over 30, pushing 40, or over 40 desperate for validation and a sense of belonging, so they cling onto the hivemind opinion without thought or their own feelings on the matter.

The only reason I really come back here is to remind myself of my goal by the time I'm 30: Even if things somehow end up bad, I REFUSE to be like these people.
That'll scare anyone straight :x

Like, say what you want about Reddit, but if CE had something like their downvote system, it'd be a heckuva lot worse. (Hence its reputation as "ResetEra 2.0") At least with Reddit, even the downvoted side at least gets SOME people trying to understand their points of view and replying to them with somewhat of an open mind. Which is why, for example, I love the trans subreddits for the enlightening discussions on the trans experience both good and bad; heck, I've visited those reddits so much that I'm excited to get a notification on my phone to read more about it. It's the complete opposite of... whatever brainwashed, draconian madness goes on here when the same subjects are mentioned.
And I'm not talking about transphobes. I mean CE's overzealous hivemind that will defend a subject tribalistically to an almost creepy extent, like they're trying to make a safespace for the nonexistent 12-year olds who browse the forum, but instead it's a daycare for older individuals akin to Rick and Morty's Jerryboree.

CE's bigotry towards differing opinions is about as bad as their social skills. And for that, it will always be a joke. Which is why I like coming here: the spectacle's hilarious~
