The fact that this season has four original anime that are at least "pretty good" to me is fantastic. DIY is actually my least favorite of the four and I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. It's been a fun season.

I just finished Fresh Precure, the 11th (of 19, soon to be 20) Precure series that I've completed so far. It got off to a slow start and had some janky quality here and there, but it got really good in the second half and it had the rare trait that I actually really enjoyed every single Cure in the series instead of one or two of them just being boring or overlooked. I can see why this was "the Precure that saved Precure" back when it first aired.

Out of the Precure series I've completed, I'd rank it either 4th or 5th. It's really close between it and Smile for that 4th spot.

The thing is most of what they are doing is actually dramatically cheaper to make than the rest of what is being made now. It just requires actual soul to be put into the show and that isn't something you get at all from the dime-a-dozen majority of the rest of the field.

That's certainly an... interesting concept for an anime, especially for an original series. Looks like they're using CG for the performances, but at least it looks pretty good. Maybe (hopefully) it'll be like BanG Dream and D4DJ where the whole show will be done in the same CG as the performances so there's no awkward transitions between 2D and 3D.

Finished up Lycoris Recoil.

Gave it an 8. It feels like there was a lot of missed opportunity to grow characters that I found quite interesting, but maybe in the second season (if there is one) we will see that.

I gave Lycoris Recoil a 9.5/10 when I finished it subbed, and after re-watching it with the dub and re-evaluating it a bit, I think I might drop it closer to a 9/10. It did have a couple of flaws that became more apparent with the re-watch, and it was lacking that "spark" that I feel when I watch a series that makes me think of giving it a 10/10. That being said, LycoReco is still technically my anime of the year right now (I enjoyed Birdie Wing more but don't feel comfortable rating/ranking it because it's unfinished) and I'd love to see it expand into a larger franchise with more content later on.

Oh, you can already see why Ash wins in Pokemon. Idiot, Aceburn loses Libero and his ability to turn into a ground type when he Dynamax's. Then you have Charizard WHO IS WEAK AGAINST ELECTRIC ATTACKS!

After what happened with *past Pokemon anime spoilers* Greninja back in Kalos (and many other times, that was just the most bullshit example) you should realize by now that type advantages don't mean jack shit when pitted against plot armor in the Pokemon anime.

A huge spoiler for the biggest franchise in the entire world is sadly going to be pretty much unavoidable. I wait for the dub on Netflix (which is several months behind) to watch the show and I didn't even bother trying to avoid the result because I knew it was impossible. Plus the result felt kind of inevitable anyways.

While it has disturbing enemies, I can't recall any triggering material in the show from memory. But it has been many years of course. I could always blow through it at 2-3x times the speed and see if there is any issues.

A double-check would be helpful if you have the time for it, but I trust you and your judgment. Plus I have other shows on my plan-to-watch that I would say are higher priority, so there's no rush.

I don't remember the name of the VA, but there is one who speaks both English and Japanese fluently to the extent that she's voicing her character in both languages in an upcoming anime (Tomo Chan is a Girl). While I've not seen Do it Yourself, based on your post I think someone like that could have done the role justice in the JP version

I remember her because she voiced an American magical girl in the Magia Record mobile game (RIP) and spoke both Japanese and English really well. And yes, she would have been a perfect choice to voice Jobko if the studio actually gave enough of a damn to go out and cast her. But they didn't.

I've already talked about it a lot on the Anime OT board and on Reddit as well, but I'll mention it here too. Jobko is supposed to be an American-born character, but her English is not only absolutely awful, it's actually worse than the Engrish we hear from the other Japanese characters. It's a sign of sheer laziness by the studio to not bother finding a VA with better English to voice the American character. Akiba Maid War put in the effort to cast a voice actress who is fully fluent in Russian to voice a Russian character, and a fluent Russian speaker who also knows Japanese is much, much harder to find than a fluent English speaker who also knows Japanese, which makes the laziness of DIY's casting look even worse.

It's a flaw that probably shouldn't affect me as much as it does, but it's still a flaw that comes up in every single episode since Jobko's introduction and negatively affects my enjoyment of the scene every time she opens her mouth.

Do it yourself is so fun. I'm glad one of my most anticipated shows ended up being so great. Also, I want one of those jellyfish robot butlers.

I'm really enjoying it too. Jobko's awful Engrish is the only thing I don't really like about it, but aside from that gripe, it's just really fun and comfy.
