Id sure the fancier strategies can be useful for particular situations, but I havent looked enough into them to fully understand the risk/reward. And buying calls is simple with a low risk/high reward potential. I dont want to over complicate things too much. --- |

If I have more than one option, I usually try to close enough to get my initial money back. Then I let the rest ride out depending on what the market looks likeSame here pretty much. Since Ive been burned plenty of times selling too early Ill buy 3 calls. Sell #1 when it triples, #2 when Ive made a decent gain (+5-10% or more) then hold onto #3 indefinitely. Ive also never exercised, but when the time comes, if the stock is a good buy and I have the cash, Ill probably just exercise. From a tax perspective, better to never sell and never pay tax on the gain. If worse came to worse and I needed cash, I could always sell just a portion of the 100 shares at that point. --- |

If I know folks arent contributing to their 401ks and can get a company match, I always recommend they do that first though. --- |
