The great thing about the finale was that it could be interpreted so many ways. To me, it was a message on Macs coming out, views on God, etc, on the surface. Metaphorically, the whole episode was commentary on Rob not feeling proud about the show and wanting to do something he could be proud of. It was also a metaphor about Rob wanting to be taken more seriously as an actor, writer, and producer, and using this as his opportunity to come out as a serious force in television.

It was also just as much of a showcase for Danny DeVito to remind audiences that behind all the batshit crazy nonsense that he exhudes as Frank, he can still deliver the goods as a serious actor, and that there is a mutual respect between him and the cast, and Rob in particular.

As I mentioned in other threads, I didnt especially care for the episode at first. Upon my first rewatch though, I really payed attention to the writing and delivery of everything, and then it all made perfect sense. Ive seen in other threads that some of the characters, especially Luther, seemed stinted in how they were written and how they were acting. That is much due to the fact that Rob uses the characters metaphorically so much in this episode than he ever has before.

When Frank is in the float, looks in the mirror, and yanks the shit out of his nose and says no good, no good, its not Frank in that moment. Its Devito, saying that he cant just keep doing the same old Frank shit forever. Sometimes, especially after 13 seasons of a show, you have to do something so out of the box and crazy, that you know some people are going to hate it. But you gotta do it.

I didnt care for it that much or get it upon first viewing. Upon 2nd viewing, its become my favorite episode of the series.

Im not gay, and it didnt hit me in the way that it seems to have hit members of the LBGQ community, but once I realized what the true message of the episode was as a whole, it was beautiful.

Its not even just the dance scene. Its the entire thing. Its one of the, if not the, best written episodes in quite some time, and DeVito is a legend.

At first I was taken aback with Franks reaction at the end. Frank Reynolds, the character, never would have had that reaction, and I still believe that. But in the end, its not Frank in that moment. Its DeVito. Realizing that made the whole thing make perfect sense.

Luther represents viewers that expected a cheap joke at the expense of gay people, and are angry with the show itself. Frank represents dedicated fans that are willing to truly understand McElhenney's motivations in making this episode and can appreciate it.

As a Sunny fan I guess I can say I appreciate it and applaud McElhenney for taking the swing he did with the episode. But will this go down as one of my favorite episodes? Not exactly.

That ending was something alright, but it wasnt Sunny.

So tonight I rewatched it. I dunno... its not conventional Sunny, but it is Sunny, and it might just be one of the best episodes of TV yet.

It wasnt what I as expecting. But when watching it again and knowing the payoff, its amazing how well constructed and concise the episode is for packing as much quality as it can in 21 minutes, and the effort Rob put into the ending is ridiculous, and only proves what a labor of love this show is for him.

Its Robs show, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. He wrote the episode. Rob wanted to do something that no one expected, and he certainly succeeded.

The episode is not about Max being gay. Its about Rob proving he can be taken seriously as an actor and producer. He obviously cares for and respects DeVito a lot, and appreciates his involvement in the show. Looks up to as a father figure, perhaps even.

Rob knew he could do this episode and it would divide the hell out of the fan base, but it doesnt matter. He can always be proud of this episode.

Oh I'm watching 8. I gotta see why it's so bad.

When S8 starts it might seem not so bad, but youll get to a point quickly enough where, yeah... just bad all around.

And not even in a so bad its funny kinda way (except for maybe the treadmill scene), its just plain bad.
