Sometimes I'll get the craving for a frosty beer, like when I'm sitting on the porch on a hot summer day, but otherwise I tend to agree that beer's pretty overrated. A good IPA in the right circumstance can work for me too, though.

I find myself ordering ciders more and more, or wine, or even fruity drinks. Just tastes better in most situations.

I would never do it (I'm such a purist for "focusing" that I have to hold back any annoyance when even my wife drops any commentary mid-episode), but for some people, it's just not that important. It's something that everyone's talking about and it's fun for them to be part of, but they're not crazy invested.

They're the folks who STILL haven't really figured out Jon's a Targaryen.

Why did they downgrade in visuals over the course of a decade?

The dropoff between Lurtz and Azog is hilarious.

They decided to use CGI instead of practical effects and makeup

It was a rhetorical question.

Or rather, for a literal question... why? Terrible decision.

Me and my bros nerd it out for one day each year when we watch all three extended edition movies and those movies are so good, I never get burned out watching eleven and a half hours of what's essentially one super long movie. I'd love to attend one of these, looks awesome. The LotR trilogy score is one of my favorite movie scores, a live orchestra probably enhances the whole experience.

It absolutely does. It was incredible.

And yeah, I don't do it yearly, but every couple of years I can sit down and watch the trilogy. Honestly I could probably do it annually, but keeping it every 2-3 years keeps the magic alive a little bit more.

It was a magical experience, man. The live performance of "Into the West" at the end drew some man-tears.

Maybe because Gimli had all the dwarf screentime, where in The Hobbit they had to divide it amongst 13 of them.

its sad you had to explain this to tc

...are you being facetious, or...

Gimli got all the dwarf screentime, sure, but the Hobbit trilogy is also like eight hours of dwarf footage as opposed to just cutting to Gimli for a wisecrack now and then. There was WAY more opportunity for an awesome dwarf character in the Hobbit than LotR, but John Rhys-Davies and the Gimli character were just so, so far better.

People who think the neo-nazi thing came out of nowhere again just weren't really thinking critically about them.

The point was that they WEREN'T some big, malevolent, genius force like Gus or the Cartel. They were the leftovers. They were the unstable remains of a drug trade that Walt blew up and then promptly abandoned because he suddenly decided it was time to be a family man. It was like pulling out of the middle east too soon after deposing Hussein. They were unorganized, sloppy, needlessly violent, messy. They're an embodiment of Walt's chickens coming home to roost. Walt remade the meth industry in his image, because as Mike said, he just "had to be the man," then decided "eh, never mind, I'll just hand this whole thing over to Lydia. She seems stable." Walt reaped what he'd sown there.

Uncle Jack and his gang might be the faces of the antagonists in Season 5, but the true antagonist of Season 5 is Walt, or more accurately, Walt's hubris, greed, and selfish mistakes.

Yup. Every time I think "eh, you know, the Hobbit trilogy wasn't so bad," I watch LotR and it just makes me so mad. It looks so, so, so, so much better than the Hobbit films.

Not to mention the movies on the whole being so, so, so, so much better than the Hobbit films, but I digress. The Hobbit trilogy was still alright, but really only on the back of LotR and using the score and sets previously established. Without the nostalgia factor, they're just dece at best. Even with the nostalgia factor, tbh.

I wasn't feeling them, when I watched them last, but that was years ago, so maybe I should give them another chance

You really ought to. If you can get your hands on the extended versions, I highly recommend that. If you're sitting down to watch a LotR movie, you're already dedicating three hours, so might as well make it 3:20 and get some more context and character building.

Plus the extended versions divide each movie cleanly in half for you, so you could really make it bite-sized.

Goddamn, that trilogy is the GOAT. I don't think any individual one of them is the best movie ever made, but there is just nothing like it in terms of the complete product. The set design, the sheer scope, the stunts, the costuming, the acting, the dialogue, the fight choreography. Jesus.

And, of course, the score. If you guys ever have anything similar to this, where they play the movie on a big screen and a live orchestra plays the score, you gotta check it out. I always loved the score, but it highlights it even more when it's being played for you right there.

This is not from my show, but it was pretty much exactly this.
