WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A Florida woman allowed a toddler in her care to overdose on cocaine and possibly fentanyl, authorities said.
Nicole Ciufi, 33, was arrested early Monday and charged with child neglect, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Ciufi told police she had been alone with the 13-month-old child Sunday evening at her West Palm Beach apartment. Her relationship to the child was redacted from a report.
At some point, the toddler appeared to be struggling to breathe, officials said. Ciufi called for an ambulance.
Hospital staff used Narcan, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, to revive the toddler, police said. A doctor told police that tests showed cocaine in the child's system. The doctor also suspected fentanyl, but test results for the potent pain killer weren't immediately available. The child's condition wasn't reported.
Ciufi told investigators she didn't know how drugs would have ended up in the childs system. She said she didn't think she'd test positive for drugs in her system, but records didn't indicate whether she was tested.
Ciufi was released from jail on $1,000 bond. Jail records didn't list an attorney.

I have driven in all the prefectures but: Hokkaido, Miyazaki, and Okinawa. Naturally the big cities, winter in the mountains, and the Japan Sea coast in winter present the most difficult driving conditions. But the question asks about laws. Actually the laws are all very reasonable and common sense should be your guide. You should also keep in mind that what is legal in your country may not be legal in Japan. One example is the inside turn on a red signal. Turning on a red light is usually, but not always, illegal in Japan.
The one that always gets me is the concept of yielding during a left turn from a stop sign. In the USA, where I learned to drive, it is the first to arrive gets to go first, but one should yield to the right of way if the things are close. In Japan, if the other car arrives much after you, and they are going to continue straight, you should yield. Yes, you are already in the intersection, but you should yield. More often than not you can go, but I believe doing so is against the law. So, if you get in a fender bender your percentage of fault will likely be higher than you would expect.
This brings up a second thing that I have had a hard time getting my head around. The Japanese police asses a crash scene and determine percentages of blame. A while back, I was driving along a rural road, NOT speeding, and some guy ran a stop sign and lightly hit me, denting the back door. I was assessed as having 10% (maybe it was 20%) blame for the accident. I know better than to argue, but jeezel-weezel 20% for just being there!
First accident in 30 some years. Bummed me out. In the end it didnt cost much because I drove a model of car that is very common and there were a ton of used parts to be found. Also Japanese car mechanics are very reasonable. Unless you drive a foreign car; then youre gonna haemorrhage great wads of cash.

1. You will not be able to join a gym, go to public bath or onsen (hot spring). My gym actually has pictures and signs in English and Japanese that tattoos are not allowed. It would freak people out and other members would quit.
2. Most "good" girls would not date a guy with a tattoo, especially visible. Nearly all parents would disapprove vehemently. I wouldn't expect to have any type of relationship with her family and most likely if she's close to hers at all, she would have to make a choice. You'd think it's so barbaric to disown or shun a daughter for who she dated but it's actually not that uncommon. Think 1950's and a white woman brings home a black man to her family.
3. People would actually be more scared of you if you dress well with tattoos. You would certainly be taken for a mafia member. While most Westerners think it's funny, they are still very much active here. Think 60's Vegas or 70s-80's East Coast where people actually did get roughed up and killed, not appear on reality TV shows.
It won't mean you can't find a gf, wife or friends but just like finding a job if you had to, you limit yourself a lot since it's an extremely conservative society. At least it's not Saudi Arabia.
I've always wanted a tattoo but my wife said if I get any, even a tiny one of a cartoon character, she would divorce me and she lived in the US for 15 years. Not a joke by the way, most Japanese people don't joke.
