youre spouting shit we already know, that drunk drivers exist and they suck. That people get distracted behind the wheels of vehicles and cause accidents.

what youre ignoring is the fact that pedestrians who dont pay any attention to their surroundings exist and they can be just as negligent as irresponsible drivers.

everyone has this mentality that a person walking cant instigate an accident due to negligence. Which is absolutely false if youve ever worked in Manhattan, which is where this specific accident happened.

I'm in Manhattan every day. I CONSTANTLY walk the streets from job to job. The amount of pedestrians with zero awareness is astounding. And they are rightly blamed because they are all glued to their phones while walking and not paying attention.

now im also not saying bikers, scooters and cars, specifically taxis, arent a problem too. Its just that pedestrians need to be far more aware of their surroundings as well. And jaywalking is an issue.

I got hit on a crosswalk a couple years ago. In a city when there's a lot of traffic sometimes you have to trust that they're gonna see you and follow the law. that doesn't always happen, though.

I will never understand how pedestrians get hit by cars. Hope she recovers, but am I missing something? I don't get how adults can just walk out into the road and get hit by a car, that's like the first thing our parents teach is to look both ways.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what the article says, but I took it that they are merely investigating these claims and have yet to verify them. If they are true, the guy is utter scum and I feel no sympathy for him but my stance on vigilantism remains. And I fully understand and sympathise with the fathers reaction, as I think any sane human being would if presented with it in the moment.

He claims there was video evidence. Afaik, this has not yet been confirmed and is still under investigation so I am not sure it is wise to take his word for it. Which is the crux of the issue ultimately. Taking the word of a vigilante is not a good thing for society. He also killed him on another day after beating the shit out of him at the time. Or at least I assume he gave him a beating as it only mentions he escaped their initial fight.

I don't think he should be punished harshly if it turns out what he says is true, but a society that wants to actually run properly cannot tolerate vigilantism as it is far too easily abused in an already corrupt justice system.
