Aysander 05/08/20 7:43:59 AM #2 | Nah. Economic situation, education, and horror stories I've seen on the news or in my studies are my deterrent. If my family name dies with me, that's a small price to pay for a quiet, peaceful life where I don't run the risk of losing any stability I've ever had because a woman got bored with me. --- |

Aysander 05/08/20 7:40:28 AM #6 | monkmith posted... does negro come from spanish? or is it just a strange coincidence? Negro up here in the US largely originated as a "Gentleman's Word" for black people of African descent. Somewhere along the line, it got warped a bit more and encompassed Black people from any outlying, generally thought of as Savage, region of the world. There's a reason the White Man's Burden is worded the way it is; by that point Negro became coded language and polite terminology to refer to blacks as a collective group, and it developed a variety of subtext that made it be seen by blacks themselves as generally offensive (Negro was quickly associated with uneducated, savage, lazy, and worthless. The south has their own supra-derogatory version that gets you modded/banned pretty much everywhere if you use it now). It actually has no relation to negro, with a lowercase n, that refers to the color in several languages, one of which is indeed Spanish. --- |
