I did in fact play all 5 games over July 4th weekend.
Still think Dr. Wily's Revenge is better than 1. Still think Il pretty whatever; Quint in particular might be a contender for most pathetic boss in all of Mega Man. Kinda liked the final boss of III, but not much else stood out. The Mega Man 3 remix levels in particular feel redundant because Mega Man 3 already remixed half of them in its own game. Mega Man IV was probably the best of the first four but nothing that special.

Mega Man V is the best of these and is a good game, and even moreso a unique game that's not mostly a remix of levels of the NES, but it's still probably not on as good as any of 2-6. The Wily levels aren't very good, although some of the end game bosses were neat. The game particularly seemed to like forcing you to drop screens vertically onto places with spikes below (to an unusual degree even for Mega Man) - and the Game Boy's smaller resolution was particularly not well suited for this. When Dr. Wily's Revenge pulled stuff like that in the last couple levels, there you at least had the Carry to potentially save you. They kept giving me pity Mega Arm upgrades for losing I didn't ask for that seemed in combination with the buyable upgrades to kinda unbalance the game. The Super Game Boy colors are a nice attempt but still obviously falls short of the NES games' aesthetic.

It should be pointed out that Scyther has basically zero people that like it because they used it or even fought it in RBY and its early anime appearances were not extensive from what I recall.

And after how hard Lugia failed Im hesitant to put a great deal of weight behind its much-improved GSC availability.

Seemingly more so with Chrono Trigger having bigger issues because Chrono Cross has been having collabs with other things (one of those is Brave Exvius itself).

Sure. Kirby Super Star has basically no chance at being close in strength to even, say, DKC2.
It just still probably has enough to be better than Forgotten Land or any other Kirby game.
...Incidentally, Forgotten Land's position vs. Elden Ring's seems to have deteriorated notably further even just since this morning? That power hour must have been wild.

Oldass poll but I'd take getting quadrupled and SFFed by Mario 64 over getting tripled by Elden Ring.
We've also seen a general SNES boost since then and several rereleases. And while it doesn't do well in these for obvious reasons, I think under the circumstances KSS avoids completely embarassing itself in Best Nintendo game for SNES polls:

It just always seemed more convenient to refer to FEx rather than full titles or acronyms - it didn't help that the preferred translations for the latter sometimes changed over time (Sword of Seals vs. Binding Blade, Blazing Sword/Blade, lol Descent of Jihad) so sticking with numbers was frankly more clear. People basically weren't ever confused by the numbering until Fates either - nobody really cared about the BS FEs and they clearly were not "real," full-scale games so therefore didn't count. And as mentioned, FE7 not having a subtitle made some kind of naming scheme besides the official localization a necessity.

Not that FFXII is strong or anything, but it rather than FFXIV being the strongest post-X FF game should not be in much question unless you think FFXIV has dramatically strengthened in the past 2 years.

Taking those Mario Kart matches at face value is probably real generous to FFXIV too.

While it wasn't massive, I remember 4chan was definitely putting in some work for Majora in the semifinals. Part of why Majora's Mask started off so hot in the finals was because there were a bunch of irregular rallied voters excited over the close end of the previous match who were then able to carry their rally over straight into the next one. A similar thing probably happened with Snake in the last two rounds of 2008.

Its way better than Minesweeper regardless but Tetris as a best game ever contender is basically a fraud. Generally people dont actually care about falling block puzzle games so there is basically no way anything else could ever hope to challenge Tetriss history, influence, and popularity. Its like if the 2D platformer had burned itself out in public consciousness and popularity before Mario 3 came out, leaving Mario 1 completely untouchable for all time. Tetris didnt actually have to compare super well to similar games past maybe its first few years to get anointed; it just had to continue existing.

consequently no matter the site youre not gonna find too many people disagreeing that Tetris deserves to rub shoulders with the best of the best because ITS TETRIS but when its time to vote its never going to seriously compete with the heavy hitters.

Switch would crush Gamecube, and I say this as a guy who loves Gamecube more than any other system.

Gamecube > N64 is possible because N64 has the shallowest library of any Nintendo console. It would need OoT/MM/SM64 nostalgia to carry it anywhere. Is that enough to beat Gamecube's Melee/Prime/WW/ToS nostalgia? Probably.

The issue with Gamecube is that its games were low-key for the most part. People have to stop and think, "Hmm, what was on Gamecube again?" It also doesn't help that the Cube's flagship game (Melee) is basically obsolete at this point.

The only consoles with a shot at beating SNES are PS1/2 and PC. Switch could be a potential darkhorse due to its current popularity, the handheld factor, and the fact that it plays a ton of older games, but I think it would get SFF'd into the ground by SNES in a 1v1.

...So if Switch >>> Gamecube and N64 > Gamecube, then you should probably expect Switch to beat N64 too, yes?

Gamecube has been neck-and-neck with N64 all three times that poll has run and beaten it twice. I figure N64 most likely wins 1-on-1 just due to it being closer chronologically to the very dominant SNES but it probably wouldnt be by a whole lot, what with SNES and N64 games not looking or playing remotely similarly.

Shouldnt that cement Gamecube as the probable #5 or do people think it loses to the Switch or PS3 or something? If the latter, do they beat N64 too?

SMS Sonic 1 is barely in the spirit of the contest. Even if it were a great game, I'd feel weird voting for it here.

Mega Man 5 came out a year and a half later so if SMS Sonic 1 is questionable, Mega Man 5 is practically cheating by existing!

8-bit Sonic 1 isnt that great though. It couldnt really replicate the multiple interweaving pathways of the real Sonic 1 and the level design it goes with instead isnt that interesting. If this was the real Sonic 1 Id have to think about it. But, while Mega Man 5 is one of the lesser NES Mega Man games imo, a good, competent NES Mega Man is enough to beat a below-standards Sonic game.

Darkwing Duck is...also almost a Mega Man game and Id take almost any of those over almost any Atari-eta high-score game.

Most of my knowledge of that comes from Romance of the Three Kingdoms adaptations and from what I hear a lot of things didn't really happen the way RotTK claimed but when we've also got Leonidas vs. Xerxes as a choice just because they were fun in 300 it's probably not worth sweating.

I'd expect most FFV voters to break Persona 5's way over Skyrim just because of it being a fellow JRPG and all but they're so remote in terms of platform, era, developer, and appeal that I'm not sure the overlap would be all that heavy and I'd expect most GTA5 voters probably breaking Skyrim's way would mostly cancel that out.

Dragon Quest VI - 5

Dragon Quest's general inability to keep up with the times regarding dialogue really starts biting it. IV and V had clever ideas about how to structure the game to make you care more about the cast even if they virtually never talk. For VI they manage some decent ideas about world-building but here it doesn't really tie into the characters effectively in the same way as IV and V's gimmicks, the party members have virtually no dialogue after joining, and any main plot there is so sparse after the first third or so as to become almost non-existent. The individual quests are reasonably good but the lack of much tying them together and no characters really worth caring about effectively dooms basically the entire thing. The setting allows for some neat NPC connections though.

Not sure which all NES games came out in Europe but the selection would have to have been dire indeed to put the Master System over it.

At the time the generation was seen as a fairly competitive one but probably with SNES winning in the end due to its stronger finish.
Since then:
-People don't care nearly as much about the Sports games, which were generally a Genesis strength.
-People care much more about the JRPGs, which were a SNES strength.
-With imports considered the SNES library like doubles in size whereas the Genesis doesn't increase all that hugely. Even throwing in the Sega CD and 32x games on Genesis' side doesn't balance out the scales.
