I just watched that episode a few days ago. There was no context or follow up. She says that she watched Shaft in Africa nine times because Will wanted to, then says that she thinks Shaft is gay. If she meant it like he was hiding his sexuality, she didn't elaborate.

Also, the episode that I just finished had Will pretending to be Hilary's hair designer Deonte.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/4/2/AAdlC_AAEtse.jpg

Jaleel White had a lot of range to play a nerdy, unattractive guy and a nerdy, unattractive girl. I feel kinda bad for him when he tried to move on from that show and play someone closer to who he was in real life. All anybody wanted was Urkel.

Yeah, I read the actual quote the refresh my memory and it does sound worse than I remember.

Plus, it reminded me of some other questionable stuff in Fresh Prince that I forgot about.

doesn't argue her case by saying that he comes across as someone who tries to hide his sexuality by being hyper-sexual with women.

I remember that being exactly her point, she definitely wasn't using gay as a synonym for lame.

I mean, it's like when people bring up the Seinfeld episode about the writer thinking Jerry and George are gay as being offensive. The jokes are more often about how crazy it is that characters will try so hard to seem masculine and worry about being gay than disliking gay people.

Like George obsessing about whether or not his penis twitched when a male masseuse rubbed his thigh. It's poking fun at hypermasculine bullshit. It's basically the same joke people make now about guys not wanting to wash their ass because touching their own butt is gay.

The idea of a God who is all powerful, omniscient, and perfectly good doesn't make any sense.

There's plenty of concepts humans are capable of understanding that you likely don't understand, why do you think you would be able to make sense of a being that is omniscient? If God was real he would be omniscient and omnipresent, he would experience every moment in history, every feeling of every human, animal, every place simultaneously.

I think sometimes people fail to understand how far above humans an omniscient being would actually be, to the point where trying to understand anything about it would be impossible.

He wasn't unique in that regard unfortunately. Until very recently "transwomen are women" was a controversial statement that would get people to attack you on here.

Just weird to see people in here who will normally jump at any chance to call someone a transphobe come in here to reminisce and defend a guy who was a literal, unapologetic transphobe. He didn't try to talk around it, or frame it as another issue.

Dude straight up did not like transpeople and would harass trans users.

Personally, I don't think dying suddenly makes someone who was an unapologetic bigot up until that point suddenly a misunderstood, swell guy. But that's me.

Oh and it absolutely is not 'theft is theft' if this was the US it would he a misdemeanor at worst.

Nobody is denying the tweet was dumb and shouldn't have been made. But people are defending the woman like she was stealing bread and water to feed her starving family, not haagen daaz and plug in air fresheners.

I mean, if she stole a stereo system people would be in here like "What, poor people aren't allowed to listen to music?!?!"

add up all of the cost of calling 911, getting the cop to come, arresting the woman, assign her a court day and put her in a jail cell add up all those cost i guarantee you it cost more than what was in that cart

Pretty sure the store she stole the goods from aren't paying those things, so I'm not sure what your point is? I hope if someone ever carjacks you or robs your house you don't call the police because of the cost to the city.

There's lots of things I can't afford, and I'm sure many people on here can't afford, and don't resort to stealing. Hell, I don't eat Haagen Daaz because it's too expensive.

Point is, she's not stealing essentials to feed her family. And not everyone who steals is doing it because they need to.

I love the implications people are making that all people who are poor are also thieves, like the majority of poor people don't also find stealing things morally wrong.

Not being able to afford things doesn't give you the right to take them, especially things that are luxury items.

Comedians all want to think they're Lenny Bruce fighting against unfair censorship rather than the times just passing them by. Shock comedy is just the minstrel shows of the modern era. I'm sure people who put on blackface to dance around on stage said the same things comedians say today about how nobody can take a joke anymore.

Dave Chappelle got called out and like a big baby decided to double down and make it his whole personality, like a lot of people eho seem to go down that path.

Someone on here said it perfectly when they said these "can't take a joke people" are just people from the newgrounds era whose humor never advanced past "baby in a blender" and can't figure out why other people don't find it funny.

There's being a free-thinker, and there's being a self-centred contrarian moron who acts like they're the lead protagonist in a movie.

Like you could stand to learn a few survival techniques, like how to farm, camp and fight - but doomsday preppers take it way too far because they're convinced that we're on the precipice of World War Z and they're gonna be Brad Pitt, standing on top of the pile. Imagine spending your weekends waking your kids up at 2 in the morning, loading them into a converted military track and driving them three hours into the woods to check expiry dates on the hundreds of canned goods you've been hoarding for years - all because Roland Emmerich's 2012 is right around the corner.

Or take anti-vaxxers. Being skeptical is a reasonable trait to have, but if you're worried about 5G or magnetised blood, shut the fuck up and get the fucking shot. You're not Jesus Christ being persecuted by the Romans because someone didn't want your proudly unwashed ass breathing against the salad bar during a global fucking pandemic.

The traits of being a free-thinker - being thoughtful, measured and opinionated - are generally positive traits. They show that you engage with the world around you. The issue is that when you see someone asserting how much of a "free-thinker" they are, it's usually some drooling moron puffing up their chest to justify their contrarian nature and pass off some shit that's stupid at best and truly heinous at worst.

The same way people like doomsday preppers and anti-vaxxers see themselves as the protagonist in their own deluded, self-centred view of the world around them, people who boldly and resonantly proclaim themselves to be "free-thinkers" tend to be using that term in a self-aggrandising way. They're not actually free-thinkers, they're just insecure about something they've felt shamed about and they want to normalise it as them "going against the grain" or "not being a part of the flock".

Like personally, I see myself as something of a free thinker. Not entirely, I can get whipped up into trends and frenzies, but I try to read a lot and think things over so I can at least say that I have a thought-out and considered opinion. But you don't see me going "I'm a free-thinker, I go my own way!" because it's such a douchey and self-centred thing to say. It implies that I see myself as being better than other people, and for all my biases and personal rage, I'm really not y'know.

But yeah, basically if you feel the need to assert yourself as a free thinker to others, I feel like that usually precedes an unpopular opinion like being an anti-vaxxer or an antisemite or some shit like that. I think people who actually think for themselves can communicate that just fine through the course of human interaction, and the people who have to boldly, prominently outline what a free-thinker they are will usually be some of the most contrarian dickheads you'll ever meet using the label as a way of masking some unpopular bullshit they don't want any blowback for.
