let's not be snobs now. it's evocative enough, probably reminds listeners of the time dude threw a bike. mono stroke bloke was neat.

I think that's part of Pinky's point though. As I've never watched One Punch Man, the only thing I have to draw on is the music itself. And it's like most piano ballads.

Now apparently it's an arrangement and not the original, which is probably contributes to the MIDI keyboard feel of it (as it probably is a midi arrangement).

I don't know about that. The video posted in the OP is about the most unoriginal sad piano theme you could think of. I think you could probably find hundreds of almost identical samples of royalty free music just like it on the internet in about 5 minutes, because writing a basic minor key melody on piano with some synth in the background is one of the easiest ways to create a sad atmosphere.

That's all my point is. The creator of that theme was just trying to match a brief. He did a good job of it too. But this is my argument. His brief was to create music to listen to while watching that specific scene in the movie. It was never written to just listen to by itself. I think the creator would have written something totally different if that was the case.

Yeah, it sounds like one of the demos on electronic keyboards.

1. It's not as if candidates spend a lot of time in South Dakota, Montana, Vermont, Wyoming, Delaware, etc. right now, despite the fact that they have disproportionately high electoral votes. So the idea that the current system actually makes people pay attention to the small states is silly.

2. For the sake of argument, let's pretend that a popular vote DOES mean that the city folks would decide everything. What are these city vs rural issues that aren't just proxies for Democrat vs Republican? Because the validity of the system we use shouldn't be based solely on how it affects the balance of power between the parties.

Okay I did some investigating, and apparently depending on your size, the cost of glass in bottling is cheaper than aluminum. But aluminum is lighter than glass, so if you are a macro-brewery, aluminum saves you much more in transportation costs and the like.

But cans are better for beer from the perspective of having it last, so it would make sense that your local brewery might spring more to get it canned.

This. When a lot of people are doing a run on a good, prices aren't increased so that "only the people who really need it can get it", but because they're hoping to turn a quick profit off of a short term need.

Which is why many states have anti-gouging laws.

I assume most people don't rationalize it at all.

Maybe it would have been better for me to say that people who give reasons for pirating often pirate first and come up with reasons later.

kirbymuncher posted...
Saying game of thrones is one of the most pirated shows is meaningless here because (very exaggerated example) a show with 100 legal viewers and 100 pirates is clearly better at getting people to watch legally than a show with 10 legal viewers and 30 pirates

Sure, but it's also true that the list of most-pirated games and the list of most popular games have a lot of overlap. It's not about who has the best purchases/pirated copies ratio, but about the fact that piracy is more correlated to popularity than it is to "which companies have the worst DRM" or anything like that.

I think the issue here is that some people are interpreting academic as

"Someone (usually with a PhD) who is a professor or is heavily involved in academic research"

and those people seem to not think academics are self-absorbed/arrogant.

And then there are people who interpret academic as
"Arrogant, self-absorbed people who claim to be smart"

and unsurprisingly have negative opinions of those people.

For the record, the term academics refers to the first definition.

Yeah definitely convenience is a big thing, both in terms of purchasing and in terms of playing

A lot of people in this topic seem to be implying that pirates will just pirate everything no matter what and you can't do anything to change that. And sure I'll agree there are some people like that but most people who pirate can probably be convinced to buy with the right combination of convenience and pricing

Most people who pirate rationalize their pirating after the fact.

Switching to TV shows for a second, one of the most torrented TV series is Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones:
1. Has HBO Go available to people who don't want to pay for all the bloat of cable but would be willing to pay for just what they watch.
2. Has fairly good reviews. (so none of this "Try it before you buy it because there aren't good reviews argument")
3. It's a TV show, so the notion of spyware, etc. is irrelevant.

But yet it's one of the most torrented shows. Why is that? Because it's popular and not free.
