Usually, when people avoid looking at the sun, it's because it's uncomfortably bright and they feel compelled to look away/shield their eyes somehow. When the sun's partially eclipsed, though, it's not bright enough to trigger that reflex (but still bright enough to cause damage), so looking away/shielding eyes has to be a conscious decision.

Of course, it's not particularly hard to make that conscious decision, even if you're in the middle of something else.
This is why I'm only going to look at it for one or two seconds with my naked eyes. I'm also going to record it with my digital camera in 2160p while only looking at the touch screen to make sure the lens is properly directed at the eclipse. I will rotate the screen upward so that I have to look down in order to see it. I'm not taking any chances. Two seconds max is enough to burn the image in my memory, but not enough to burn my eyes. I know it's safe because I can look at the sun for longer than that before I have the reflex to look away. I do have a light stain on my eyes for several minutes after that though. I'll be aiming for a single second, but I'll probably overshoot it. I'll look at the other stars with my naked eyes for much longer than that, but I'll make sure to turn my back away from the sun first.

Incarcerated people in New York will get to see eclipse after settling lawsuit
I love how the lawsuit states religious convictions when some clients are atheists. But seriously, they should let everyone watch it with protected eye wear. It's also a rare event where everyone can be expected to behave. No one is dumb enough to ruin a rare event for every other prisoners. Any idiot who does that is putting his/her life at risk. I even expect enemy gangs to hold a truce in order to watch it in peace. It's like movie nights, but significantly rarer.

Leonardo was Italian. Spending the last three years of his life in France doesn't make him French.

I have an idea for a better isekai promotion: crossover with another fast food restaurant chain that has a vastly different menu. For example, McDonald's X Tim Hortons. Somehow, Big Macs were transported to Tim Hortons and Tim Bits found their way to McDonald's. For a limited time, you can buy them in both chains. The only difference is that they're renamed Big Tims and Mac Bits where appropriate. Marketing makes it obvious that the two chains have partnered, but they pretend that they're hiding the error/crime with re-branding. In McDonald's version of the ad, they could show the Hamburglar stealing the Tim Bits. In Tim Hortons' version, they could show hockey players opening a box of Tim Bits only to see Big Macs inside. Confused, they realize there was a mix-up and that they have trucks full of them due to an error on the delivery slip. They decide to change the branding because "no one is going to notice it".

A true socialist (a.k.a. left-wing) would never vote for a liberal like Biden, let alone one who actively supports genocide. When will people realize that voting for the lesser evil is only helping the rigged system stay in place? Fight for voting reform, that's the only way to make your country become a democratic one. I'm glad Americans are finally starting to realize that there's no democracy in the US, but it baffles me to see that so many of them are still upholding the illusion of democracy.

I worked in retail full-time for three weeks during the summer of 2008. It was in a Zellers (similar to Wal-Mart and Target) and business was not doing well. After completing my training, I was the only employee in the electronics department. During the same year, its main competitor (Wal-Mart) had five times the number of employees because business was booming. There were rarely any customers during my shifts. I also worked at a jewelry kiosk a few times as replacement, and once as a cashier at the entrance (mostly grocery shoppers).

We kept receiving new stocks of landline phones (same model) that we couldn't sell. I personally sold only one. We didn't have any shelf space left and my boss wanted me to magically figure it out. Why they kept ordering 15 new phones per week when we were lucky to sell even a single one is a mystery. We were just hoarding them.

I only had three difficult customers. One of them was a regular. I didn't dislike him because he was chatty and it was a very boring job. I consider him difficult only because my boss told me not to talk with him unless it was about buying stuff. It's not easy to politely ignore someone amicable who just wants to chat.

My second difficult customer was a middle-aged woman who wanted me to follow her to the entrance of the store. The details are a bit fuzzy, but I think she needed to return something. Whatever it was she needed, I didn't think it was part of my job description and it also required me to leave my post, something I was specifically told not to do unless another employee was present. My boss was unhappy about it because I was supposed to follow that customer and leave my post. Apparently, she could have been a thief or something.

The third one was an old lady. She asked me where the toilets were. I walked a bit with her and gave her the right directions by pointing. It went something like this:

Me: "Do you see the fast-food store over there?"
Her: "Yes."
Me: "Head there, but stop right before entering the store. Look to to your left and the toilets will be right in front of you."

She then complained about how they were so far away (they weren't) and that it was hard to walk. What was I supposed to do, carry her there or bring the toilets to her? All I could say was "sorry" and telling her as kindly and politely as possible that I didn't know what else I could do to help her. She actually complained to management and I lost my job.

It was very clearly an excuse to get rid of me because I wasn't the perfect slave. probation was about to end. I was planning on quitting a month later when school resumed. They expected me to do way too much work for way too little pay. Some employees were killing themselves at the job. The store went bankrupt the next year, and the entire chain went defunct in 2013.

What I hated the most was that I wasn't allowed to sit down even when there was nothing else to do. If there were no customers and all of my tasks were completed, I was supposed to wait and do nothing while standing. I was forced to wear cheap black sneakers with metallic parts slicing through the back of my feet. I was young and didn't know my rights as a worker, and we weren't unionized. Management did several things that were illegal.

That's some loony leftist thinking. Israel is literally fighting a government whose leadership has repeatedly called for the genocide of all Jews.
Threatening genocide isn't an excuse to actually committing it. Israel has murdered tens of thousands of innocent civilians. Bombing hospitals and schools is barbaric. Shooting hostages is barbaric. Cutting water supplies is barbaric. Bear in mind that Israel has been oppressing Palestine for over half a century. Genocide is never justified.

Does she support the genocide of the Palestinian people? If the answer is no, then yes she would be a better president than Biden who sponsors terrorism with taxpayer money.
