When this is all said and done, I wonder what the historical estimated tally is going to be. Wonder if it will surpass Spanish flu.

South Africa might be worse off than we know about, considering Oxford is testing their vaccine there as well as Brazil.

My uncle lives in Tampa. Hes got rushed to the hospital this morning because he couldnt breathe and tested positive for covid. He got put on a ventilator already and they gave him Remdesivir.

Its crazy because hes been taking this virus seriously since March and only leaving the house to go grocery shopping (so my cousin tells me). I think this just goes to show you how bad the situation is in Florida.

People were so encouraged by the low death numbers, not accounting for the 2 week lag time. People dont die as soon as theyre diagnosed. I just read someone passed away on July 3rd that has been fighting it since April. Theres still so much we dont know about this virus.

Remember when geniuses like abaddon41_80 believed studies from April that the case counts were much, much lower than reported, the mortality rate is only marginally worse than the flu, and that we should all just reopen fully and gun for herd immunity?

Damn thats not good news.

So they lowered the projected death count.

We have to average around 350 daily deaths or fewer in order to not surpass that number. We've only been under 350 reported daily deaths twice since late March.

Is this the projection with the way things are now? Or if masks are mandated/more lockdowns? Maybe Im desensitized to these death numbers, but seeing how were currently at 124,000+ deaths, 179K doesnt seem *too* bad. (Feel like a maniac for even typing that).

So is the consensus that the protests had a limited effect on the increasing covid cases ornis the jury still out on that? Seems like we are around the point where stronger statements can be made on that.

I guess so. Philadelphia had some of the biggest protests and their cases are continuing to decrease. I think we wouldve seen an increase by now.

My state (PA) opens fully on Friday. While Ive been waiting for this, Im kind of scared seeing how other states fared that have fully opened. Pennsylvania has been great getting their cases down, but thats been largely due to the stay at home orders. Fully expect everything to spike here with how antsy people have been to get a haircut or go to the bar.

Brazil's numbers is with them testing only people who have three coronavirus symptoms. Their positive rate kinda insane due to this right now it 928k positive cases with 1.6 million tests. Compared to US which has 2.2 million positive cases on 25 million tests. I think there is still a shot Brazil surpasses US even with them surging. Brazil is that bad right now.

Coronavirus: Dexamethasone proves first life-saving drug

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53061281

In the trial, led by a team from Oxford University, about 2,000 hospital patients were given dexamethasone and compared with more than 4,000 who were not.
For patients on ventilators, it cut the risk of death from 40% to 28%.
For patients needing oxygen, it cut the risk of death from 25% to 20%.

Thats terrific news.
