One silver lining is that the politicians will try to buy our votes with another stimulus. So it likely people in US get another stimulus by November. Trump already said he wants to do more than what Dems offer. Hopefully they fight with each other and the free money they give us goes up.

Yep. Wonder what happens with all those sports that are taking place in Florida like WWE and the NBA. And I think baseball's spring training usually takes place in Florida and Arizona and that the two places which are among the spiking states right now.

All those leagues have to move or be prepared for a lot of the players/staff getting covid leaving their bubbles.

New Yorker here from NYC and the sirens weren't only at night it happened several times a day at the peak. I was naive at the time and thought it was for someone having a heart attack or getting shot. Looking back majority of those were probably corona patients. Since I barely hear ambulance sirens now. And back then it was like 40-50 times a day.

Now that I am going out more often I am finding out stuff like several people at my local grocery store died from corona. And 20 people in my apartment building died from it. I had thought I wasn't connected to it but turns out my neighborhood was hit hard. I just wasn't leaving my apartment or talking to anyone or I would have seen the murals that were outside.

what neighborhood?

I'm by Park Slope - Sunset Park, Kensington and that whole Windsor Terrace area + flatbush got hit HARD

I'm between Maimonides and Methodist so like you said, there were a shit ton of sirens in my area

https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020/health/coronavirus-questions-answers/
Why are Covid-19 cases rising so rapidly, but the rate of deaths is decreasing?
In early July, the US reported its highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day, shattering the previous daily record set just a week earlier.
Doctors say the rate of infection is outpacing the increase in testing, and the current surge coincides with what happened several weeks earlier when states started reopening and many people started abandoning safety measures such as wearing masks or social distancing.
Yet the daily numbers of Covid-19 deaths have generally decreased, and experts said they expect the daily number of deaths to drop before rising sharply again.
There are a few reasons for the general decrease in new deaths (for now) as Covid-19 cases surge:
First, deaths from coronavirus often happen several weeks after infection. It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to even appear. After that, people might not get tested immediately.
It takes about a week after someone becomes infected until they get sick enough to be hospitalized, and then often about a week after that until you start seeing deaths, said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor at George Washington University School of Medicine.
Weve sort of plateaued with the death rate sort of fluctuating between 600 and 800 deaths per day, Reiner said. Obviously, everyone is concerned about the death rate starting to take off again.
Second, many of those newly infected are young people who are less likely to die from the virus. But they can still easily infect others by just talking or breathing.
With this virus, one person on the average infects three people, and were already at 40,000 new cases reported daily, internal medicine specialist Dr. Jorge Rodriguez said on June 30.
So even if you get Covid-19 and dont very sick, you can still easily infect multiple people, who could go on to infect others.
And if hospitals get overwhelmed, they may have to go into crisis standards of care, said Will Humble, executive director of the Arizona Public Health Association. That basically means lower care for everybody, not just people with Covid-19.

After 75 new cases Sunday and Monday, about 55 Tuesday, I thought maybe just maybe things turning around here but no. We followed it up with about 500 from Wednesday and Thursday. Imperial County at about 1 in 26 having had COVID. Hope herd immunity is a thing because its the only thing thats gonna stop it here it seems. I start taking care of COVID patients at my clinic Tuesday. Sending my 5 year old to live with the in laws for while. Sucks. On the bright side I get to go into isolation with my wife who I haven't lived with since she has been in our isolation part of the house since she has been treating COVIDs for 5 weeks now.

it's getting bad: 375 cases in oregon. 1 death

highest case numbers: Umatilla (88), Washington (67), Multnomah (64)
some people aren't learning to keep others safe from the virus :(.

even if all it means is to use a face mask then again that borders on freedom supposedly.

As grim as it looks with 2 days in a row breaking the world record, I am still hoping that there is some sense to this. The only way it would make sense to carry on with the reopening while we get lessons in exponential math is that our government is going to shut everything down July 6 while people are too drunk and exhausted to object.

new oregon cases for july 3rd: 300 cases
highest infections: Multnomah (59), Washington (46), Marion (32)

governor also added eight counties to the covid-19 watch list if they don't get it under control. they'll restrict gathering limits or closure again.

1 case is found in the county i live in. this is going to suck.

We are almost more closed up and secure in my county then we were during the shutdown. People everywhere have masks, fast food places are back to drive-thru only. Which is funny to see one sign on the door saying you need a mask to come in and right next to it another sign saying sorry you can't come in anyway.
