Why did you do the interview in the first place?

Because I wanted to work my way up to be a developer at the company. They only told me at the very end that I shouldnt take the job if I want to be a developer and how I cant apply for a dev position until I work there for 8 months and that I would have to start at 15 dollars an hour even after the year and how they wouldnt treat my application any different than an outsider etc

In the future, let your goal be known from the beginning. You'll save time.

It can be tedious, but I like the flexibility.

C has fantastic conditional compilation features, is the main reason I have these few C source files.

The majority of my code for this is in Ada, which people like to crap on but once you get used to it, it's a great language for, well, preventing stuff like this topic. Like straight up if you define a

type Single_Digit is range 0..9

It won't let you assign 10 to it, which is pretty standard, but the nice thing is it also won't let you do this:

declare
X : Single_Digit := 6;
Y : Integer;
begin
Y := X;
end

Unless you either explicitly cast to an Integer or change the Single_Digit definition from a type to an Integer subtype.

It's great because it always makes sure you are sure you want to do what you're asking it to do and didn't just brainfart something.

That's great. I like my type system being as strong and static as possible. Compile-time checks are the best and their utility is lost on these python/javascript-slinging chucklefucks who think "all the things" should be written in those hacky languages.

Sure, let me know when there's an enterprise-level website in production that uses C. Pretending that one language covers every application is short-sided and ignorant.

This is coming from someone who spends his day coding in COBOL and his evenings in C#. I have a pretty wide range of exposure.

10 years ago, I might agree, but for anything that's not extreme real-time like VR, the processing power of computers has made the overhead negligible, and anybody who writes off managed code as "trash" is stuck in the stone age and is grasping at their dying language.

It's really no different than eating shrimp. People all over the world eat cooked or fried bugs. Bugs are like almost 100% protein so why not cook em up and crunch on em

It is different because shrimp come from the water so the biological make-up is different as is the resulting taste/consistency. A lot of bugs have to be eaten with the shell intact. You wouldn't do the same with shrimp.

A lot of countries, particularly asian ones, will actually eat the shrimp, shell, tail, and all.

Although they'll sometimes remove the legs.

I'm sure it's fine if you deep fry it beyond recognition. Just like bugs.

No I mean like they'll be in things like Ramen and Pho, complete with shell. You just eat them.

I think the bigger benefit to being a kid is the lack of weight in responsibilities. I'm lucky in that I have a strong safety net that I've built for myself and even then I know things can go south given enough misfortune. Being a kid means being carefree and that goes a long way towards feeling true freedom.

I assume 1337's point is in "true communism" the state "withers away" so the post by Revnir is wrong...

And my point is that the state aint withering away...

No, my point is that communism does recognize ownership because that's what the whole issue is about - workers being able to reap the benefits of their own labor instead of having most of it taken by some elite (whether corporate execute or political elite). You can see it in action at different scales. For example, cooperatives where the workers own part of the company and get paid from the profits based on their share. This is as opposed to a regular company where the workers only get a wage disconnected from profits (though often getting paycuts in tough times).
