A call contract is in-the-money if the strike (price you agree to sell the stock at) is below the current price of the stock. Being out-the-money is the opposite, meaning that the strike is above the current price of the stock.

The current price of SLV at the time of this post is $22.91. So 6% OTM should be $22.91 * 1.06 = $24.2846 so actually the call to sell would be at a strike of $24 or $24.5

And I'm going to go ahead and guess that the research required to write those covered calls once a month also takes quite a bit of time.

I doubt you're just going in and writing covered calls at some random numbers for a few minutes.
There's no need to guess, simply read what Credit Suisse writes about their fund: https://notes.credit-suisse.com/Show/Details/SLVO

"The Index seeks to implement a "covered call" investment strategy by maintaining a notional long position in shares of the iShares Silver Trust ETF (Ticker: SLV) (the "SLV shares") while notionally selling call options on that position on a monthly basis that are approximately 6% out-of-the-money. The notional net premiums (if any) received for selling the calls are paid out at the end of each monthly period. The strategy is designed to generate monthly cash flow in exchange for giving up any gains beyond the strike price. The strategy provides no protection from losses resulting from a decline in the value of the SLV shares beyond the notional call premium received, if any."

No research needed. Just go for a strike that is approximately 6% OTM.

You can manually sell covered calls instead of buying SLVO. You can also manually buy and carefully manage an S&P 500 stock portfolio instead of just buying an S&P 500 index fund, to avoid that 1% fee from a guy who has been doing this for 20 years as his day job. Totally worth the inconvenience and added risk.
They buy on an automatic schedule. If you buy into an index fund, it's similarly automatic which is why fees are low. 1% is way too high of a fee for a passively-managed fund.

What fee do they charge?

IMO, this is about getting money without having to do work.
The fee is invisible to you but it factors into pricing. Check the expense ratio. It covers administration expenses and such (e.g. paying for the management of buying shares and writing covered calls).

SLVO wins out if the price of SLV stays flat or slowly increases (below strike of the calls they sell).

Amazon recently was caught hiring for a cryptocurrency expert, people suspect they will accept Bitcoin as payment some say they want to start their own blockchain as well. So yes, it is literally the future. Thats not misleading
Many retailers "accept" bitcoin by immediately converting it to the equivalent in USD. Of course Amazon will gladly accept as many ways to pay as possible. I did see a screenshot that someone posted about them hiring a "digital currency and cryptocurrency expert" but that doesn't necessarily mean bitcoin. People think bitcoin when they see cryptocurrency, but bitcoin could easily be left behind in the dust, particularly since the posting also says "digital currency" which is more of the approach that the central bank is taking (not actually blockchain, they just want more control over currency and the ability to track movements).

Wrong.

Bitcoin will be worth 6 figures per coin by mid decade easily. The only thing that can possibly stop it is if all the worlds governments band together and cancel blockchain...which is very unlikely.

Every time the irs gives their tax refunds a % of that money gets directly invested into blockchain, thats not even mentioning the fact that more folks get smartphones each year and learn about blockchain.
Every time people get paychecks, a portion of that gets "invested" into literal lottery tickets by a dedicated portion of the population. Doesn't mean lottery tickets are a great investment.

Also, you greatly underestimate the power of governments. During the great depression, FDR fucked over people holding gold. Do you honestly think cryptos can't be destroyed with simple legislation? Simply make it illegal to hold. Most wouldn't have the appetite for that sort of risk.

With central banks coming out with their own digital currencies (not even crypto), you can bet they'll be calling for regulation of "unauthorized" coins. Crypto's entire value is in its lack of regulation.
