You avoided my question. How did "DNC rules" effect the outcome?

You mean the rules that make it so mostly only democrats have a say, thus killing the chances of independents like Bernie? Oh, that has no effect at all!

Why? There was nothing interesting in those.

Yeah he told you to but honestly i thought human resources are the ones who filter the applicants.

The best thing he couldve done was take your application and put it to the top of the applicants. ...this is by far being a lot more direct and questionable.

No, I know for a fact that the senior is the one that selects who is interviewed. Think about it...how on earth would HR know who is and isn't qualified for the job as well as the senior who oversees the work?

They don't, but they typically have an automatic keyword filter that they'll run your resume through.

Once we get to the idea of "improving", things become tricky. I mean... improve what? As long as we have the bare minimum necessities covered, it's then just a matter of entertaining yourself until you die. Unless you get entertainment out of slaving away and fantasizing about some future that you don't exist in yet, and possibly won't at all, and definitely will not after a certain amount of time, then life really starts to suck at this point.

It's up to the person. If you want something more out of life, you work towards that. When you're satisfied, you stop working. It's as simple as that. Building enough capital will let you achieve the key "stop working" part. Living off the land will have you working until death. If that's what makes you happy, go for it.

Tauros posted...
I'm not making any assumptions about you, I'm not talking about you directly. Just the system in general. Of course, I enjoy getting what i want, too. But is it ever enough? All the nice little trinkets in the world are never enough to completely satisfy. But that's not to say I don't enjoy these trinkets. They're definitely fun to fiddle with from time to time.

You're definitely making assumptions about someone. Again, it's up to each individual to decide for themselves what's really important to them. If they decide they want short-lived, expensive thrills that'll keep them on the work treadmill for the rest of their lives, that's their prerogative. Building up a retirement fund does not contribute to an endless treadmill, in fact it's the opposite.

All life is is a series of delaying death. You've been doing the same thing every day since you were born: eat, drink, shit, piss. When you try and make it serious with these retirement funds and pensions, it misses the entire point of life. You're going to lose in the end, anyways. Kaput!

But you can greatly improve your lot in life through investments, thus delaying death further while also improving the quality of life of those years.

Tauros posted...
I'm... pretty sure jobs that have employees with the highest rates of stress and heart diseases are jobs that would be considered lucrative.

Again, you're missing the point. Life is so, so simple, and you can get by just fine on a day to day basis by making a smaller amount of pennies than you do now. You've been brainwashed since you were little that you need all the latest gadgets and gizmos, but it's all a capitalistic social game.

Regardless of job, if you can save and invest then you should. You're making assumptions about me but you're way off. I live a minimalist life. I drive a cheap and simple car, use an old phone with a $30 a month unlimited plan (very useful, it's paid itself back in utility), live in a modest house, and pay $15 a month for the lowest tier of internet (10mbps. I don't even subscribe to cable nor do I have a TV). Could I do with less? Sure, but it'd impact my quality of life. If you're all about the bare necessities, then why are you on the internet?

How much should i be saving per year?

Right now I'm doing about 15k into retirement accounts, but I am trying to do more

Is that 15k solely your contribution (i.e. no employer match)? Because that's near the annual limit. Either way, that's a decent amount and you're doing fine.

Here's a simply calculator: http://www.investinganswers.com/calculators/saving/simple-savings-calculator-how-much-could-i-save-over-time-3679

Screw retirement. A bus could hit you tomorrow. Or you could have a brain aneurism in your sleep tonight.

Food and water are necessities for survival, so you only need to make enough pennies to eat and drink water. Unless you can become entirely self-sufficient by living off the land, which is much more difficult than actual labor, probably.

Think about it in terms of odds. Chances are high that you will live to retirement age. That is why governments and companies have been having budgetary issues paying out pensions (that and they greedily and stupidly used money that was supposed to be set aside for that purpose instead as a discretionary fund), because many people are living into those ages.

Living a life of scraping by only adds stress and would probably shorten your lifespan, especially since surprise health issues would financially ruin you and so you may not get critical care. The first thing you should do is become debt-free. After that, any investments you have work for you. Living off capital is a lot easier and far more lucrative than living off whatever small parcel of land you can manage to squat on.

By the time we are retirement age the government will have figured out how to steal our 401ks from us.

That'll be tough since the money is held in the market, distributed according to your choosing. Maybe they'll institute a special tax in addition to the income tax that pre-tax accounts are subject to upon withdrawal.

Are you talking about actual mayonnaise or is this a euphemism? If you're talking about real mayonnaise, I like it on my meat sandwiches as an alternative to ketchup because of the lower amount of sugar (yes I know they're not equivalent in taste and texture, but I mean as opposed to no condiments). If it's made with real eggs, it's all good.

Well, technically yes, I have a retirement fund set up through my work where my work contributes like 500 per month to it. Right now thats at about 7000. I try not to pay attention to that actually. So technically I've made 17k in savings this past year. Thats roughly 35% of my income.

Can you contribute to that fund and do they do any matching with those contributions?

Why is that? I've heard about some millennials not eating out too much. I don't understand why.

Because they are too poor to afford it

I'm not too poor to afford it. I just know how to cook and can thus prepare better meals for a lower cost. It would be stupid of me to eat out frequently. I own my car and house (actually own, as in no mortgage or car loan) and have plenty of savings and investments while still being in my mid-20s. I think part of the reason why I have this is because I make wise financial decisions like not blowing money on eating garbage at some overpriced restaurant.

It's kind of something like Catholics with church on Sunday. It's not required. They'll tell you it is, but usually don't enforce it. If they do enforce it, they're usually assholes.

I never understand that thinking. Following a group's policies, doctrines, traditions, whatever is kind of the whole point of being in that group in the first place. They are advocating an ideology, a way of living your life. If you refuse to follow it, that's perfectly fine to me, but then it makes no sense to say you are a member of that group. Granted, you might fail in upholding that ideology (as humans are known to do), but the group is supposed to push (or pull) you into finding your way back onto the "right" path. Calling them assholes for doing that makes it seem like you don't understand what that group even stands for.

This falls apart when you realize that religions, including Islam, have multiple sects and they have differing beliefs/interpretations.
