And is N64 really that good? I would take Game Boy over it when it comes to nostalgia power, and probably Switch as well.

On this site (and probably most places) I would easily take N64 over GB. It has probably more nostalgia power due to being active during this demographic's "childhood years" (GB is considered older despite its peak being right at the end, coinciding with N64), and more games that would hold up in a modern (contest) setting. Plus it's been shown that "influence" is not a factor that people take into consideration when voting.

I'll be honest, this is the least bad Fire Emblem song that I've heard in this contest. I may even go as far as saying that I don't actually hate it. But it still wasn't enough in this case because the other song is cooler.

What round of TOC is this? I think that goldenslaughterer is one of the entrants that's had the biggest impact on me, since every time it comes up I recognize it and remember how it goes, even though it's still a fairly new song to me. It feels like it's come up multiple times already, and I think I've voted for it every time. But then Despair of ELFERIA starts up at 0:45 after the intro and doesn't let down at all after that. Beatmania songs in VGMC run a huge spectrum of different styles, but this one is a hit for sure.

This is cool, I thought that the pre-modern contest pages were discontinued or something. Didn't realize that they were still archived intact.

I've reached the leaderboard with my main account 1 time, which was in CB9's Expert Challenge (where I ended with exactly 1337 points). I also had one alt account finish on that same board. In GotD2 I managed 2 alts on the main bracket leaderboard, though not my official entry.

I was thinking of some other answers but then I remembered Katamari Forever. I'm big into both of the PS2 Katamari games but never owned a PS3. Forever's soundtrack was my #1 game soundtrack for around 6 years (it's still in my top 3).

I'm all for songs changing styles, but Epic Epileptic Apocalypse sounds more like flipping through different channels on a radio. There are multiple parts in there that I'd like if they were full songs, but that's all they are, they're just fragments. It doesn't feel like this even qualifies as a full song on its own.

Fucking in Heaven is less of a meme song than I expected from the title and people's reactions to it. It sounds pretty standard for what I'd expect from a racing game. If you showed me it without the title, I wouldn't even know.

Patronus is a rare case where high pitched female Japanese vocals don't turn me off of a song. I like everything else that's going on it it. Main Menu is a main menu.

A Line In The Sand is one of those songs that I knew from videos before I knew what it was from. I'd say that it's one of the most well known "weird" songs among "mainstream" people. Like people's first "listen to this non-standard time signature!" song. I don't mind it, it's just hard to fairly judge songs that I'm too familiar with if they're not ones that I personally listen to. So it depends on what I think of the other song. Actually this song is alright too. I know that La-Mulana is more recent but it has a similar sound due to the time period that it's trying to replicate, so they're not all that different. A Line In The Sand is just more interesting in comparison.

Why this version of Rainbow Road? Do people really care about this song? I guess people who have closer connections to SNES, which I don't. Give me N64 Rainbow Road which I'd call the definitive song of the entire console. ...And then for the second match in a row I have a song that disappoints me after I just wrote a mediocre review of the first song. Welp.

So this is the famous signature song. Pretty wild, it sounds like a bunch of different things at once. I can see why people here would like it. Second song has a cool instrumental but I'd like it better if it wasn't a vocal song.

Second match is a coin flip. First song is solid all around. Second song almost sounds like a generic "epic boss" music if you're not paying attention... But then if you listen even the slightest bit, you can hear that there's a ton of crazy stuff going on in the background. It definitely hides itself well and also manages to distinguish itself from what you would expect. I'd vote for this in a wild card.

Metal Gear Solid is still the worst thing along with everything that's come out of it, and I can't think of anything from this contest that I wouldn't vote over this song. But on the other hand, woah, this Celeste song is way different than anything else that I've heard. That game is mainly known for its slow, "relaxing" style of music (as many people would call it), but this song is way upbeat and poppy. I don't have anything against the regular music, and it it fits the context and theme of the game that they were going for, but it's not something that I want want to listen to outside of the game. This song is more my style and I would listen to it.
