All i remember from the original is a ton of backtracking and battles being kind of repetitive. I really would like to give it another shot though

There are two new bosses and they added warp pipes in a few places to help the backtracking.

Prey's bad ending requires you to hunt down and kill every last single living person on the station.

Ehhhhhhhh. All that aside from opening the door was stuff I was gonna do anyway. So I basically just backed up my save after beating the final boss, went and opened the door, warped back and got that ending. Very last thing I did, in case I decide to reload the backup so I dont have to go around looking all burnt and shit during the DLC.

It's still more work than most any other ending, if only because of that godawful platforming section.

The Dishonored games meanwhile make stealth really annoying and fiddly, and going loud is really easy because you can easily run around shooting and slashing at everything or turning everyone into rat chow. I love the look of the Dishonored games, they're like oil paintings come to life, but they are bad stealth games imo.

They did try to balance this with chaos. If you go loud and feed everyone to rats, you get more enemies and stuff.

So you don't like that it has workable combat, but you also don't like that James isn't parrying chainsaws with a knife like Leon? James is not "powerbombing" anyone, they clearly aimed to still have him look like someone who doesn't really know what he's doing, it just isn't as clunky to play. He's still shooting someone until they fall over and then smacking them with a board.

I don't think you can judge a remake for not intentionally making the game mechanics bad. At that point, you're just saying they shouldn't remake it at all which is fine, but at least just be upfront about the fact they were never going to satisfy you no matter what they did.

I'm curious, does the final boss still have an unskippable five minute cutscene where you have to tap through the dialogue?

Because losing to that boss was not great.

There's an old 90s miniseries based on the same book. Tim Curry plays Pennywise and he's probably the only part of it that's actually good lol.

It's sometimes credited for a lot of our generation being afraid of clowns.

The combat still looks awkward compared to something like the RE4 remake.

But to be honest, I think people vastly overstate how much of SH2's jankiness was intentional game design made to enhance the feeling of helplessness to better put you in James' shoes and how much of it was just because they couldn't do any better. Every aspect of that game is put on a pedestal even if those aspects are objectively not good just because the atmosphere and the story are so excellent. Even something like the awkward, stilting voice acting - which I do think works very well - is almost assuredly a happy accident rather than intentional direction.

See, this is one of the complaints I don't get. The gameplay trailer shows the exact amount of combat as the original.

The stupidest thing is that it makes sense Angela would be a chubby character.

The disgusting thing is that they're complaining about the attractiveness of a woman whose defining character trait is childhood sexual assault.

I think it looks pretty good. I don't really get why people are complaining beyond just not wanting a remake at all.

From the little I know about Lego, that sounds about standard.

^I've always liked the fan idea that Bruce just called them his car, his computer, his cave, etc. It was eight-year-old Dick that called them Batmobile, Batcomputer, Batcave, etc and the names just stuck.

Them turning the Pride into sympathetic villains kind of killed it for me.

It's weird that Francis was in the show at all. By and large, he was a completely isolated character with his own full cast of side characters and storylines completely unrelated to the rest of the show.

Yeah, Arrow didn't really use it either. I think it's because Dark Archer is a bit bland as a name, especially considering his real name is the much cooler Malcolm Merlyn lol.

Funnily enough, they got tablet PCs right, but they did not predict that you'd be able to do multiple things on one device, so you'll see a character with a stack of PADDs the same way you would a stack of paperwork.

It's weird there are at least three different gorilla supervillains in DC.

I was reminded of this topic when posting in that Batman villain topic, but Gotham's Penguin did do something hilariously petty.

So in season two or so, a woman named Tabitha - a very loose adaptation of Tigress - kills Penguin's mom. Penguin's right-hand man and closest-thing to best friend is Butch and as the show goes on, he and Penguin fall out and he gets with Tabitha. More amazingly stupid shit happens and Butch is killed with his body dumped in a swamp.

Story doesn't end there though because he's brought back to life as the show's version of Solomon Grundy. The Riddler befriends him for a while and uses him in his fight club, but he eventually regains his mind, hooks back up with Tabitha, and starts working for Penguin in the hopes they can find a cure. After a full season or so, he and Penguin are friendly again and Penguin forces Hugo Strange to work his magic to cure Butch.

Butch and Tabitha both profusely thank Penguin for his help, saying they'll help him with whatever he needs. Penguin says that he considers Butch a true friend, shoots him dead, then asks Tabitha if she'd really forgotten that she killed his mom. In disbelief, Tabitha asks if he really did all this just so she could watch someone she loved die and Penguin says yep.

Tbh, the best Penguin is in Gotham where he's big gay for Riddler

He's a horrific villain. The worst of his atrocities is that he ships Dick with Starfire instead of Barbara.

My only complaint was that the lying figure in the State of Play trailer was all zipped up, I did not like that change.

But then the one you see in Brookhaven Hospital is all opened up, so I have no complaints.

Even the voice acting has that awkward stilting quality to it even though it's obviously much more professionally done than the original.

Bane was always great to me. The films and games have done him a disservice by portraying him as some mindless thug but in reality hes super smart.

New 52 did something really fucking stupid, yes. In that, Nora was frozen in the 1940s. Victor just became obsessed with her while doing his PhD on her and deluded himself into thinking they were married.

Mister Freeze (yes, he has a great backstory, but...)

I do think Freeze is a relatively weak villain despite his backstory being so interesting. It makes him kind of one note, he's going to be robbing a place with a freeze gun to try and save his wife, I don't know that there's much you can do there to vary it.

Even TAS struggled to give him a good storyline after Heart of Ice, never really managing it until Batman Beyond. HoI, funnily enough, did not include Nora being frozen, that was the sequel episode which involved this weird Walt Disney-esque villain. As I type this, I wonder if Freeze would be easier to write if Nora had stayed dead. It makes his motivation a little murkier, but maybe that would have been to his benefit since it could be interpreted in different ways.

My landlord would kick us out within a week, I've already had problems with the septic tank in this place that he's blamed on me. It is not going to stand up to Trump's Diet Coke Big Mac amphetamine shits.
