I picked it up again several years back. I picked up Chrono Trigger and Harvest Moon, both with cart and manual in good condition a couple of years ago. They were a lot more than $50. A buddy of mine to this day will talk about how a K-Mart had a bargain bin filled with sealed copies of Earthbound for $2 apiece, but it was well before he started collecting. The_Popo 03/24/25 12:19:26 AM #50 | YoBlazer posted... This seems like a good topic to ask something I was thinking about earlier today: financially, what would have been the best time to start collecting cartridge/early disc-based games? I'm thinking it was the early 2000s. I may be wrong, but I vaguely remember the prices of Nintendo cartridges (NES, SNES, and N64) really falling once it was clear that the gaming industry was Sony's. Probably around then. We could probably scour the internet to find old Funcoland price sheets from back in the day and compare prices. According to Reddit, this is from June 1998, to give an idea of what NES & SNES games were going for while the N64 and PS1 were the best selling consoles. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/7224c407.jpg Kamil posted... Eh I guess. But people were always trying to be assholes occasionally selling Conta 1 for 30 USD even though the game is common asf. This is why the fallacy of sealed SMB/Duck Hunt games being worth way more than Jesus started. It's a story as old as time I guess, you get all your ducks in a row, have some people only there to promote a lie and well what do you know this copy is selling more than you think. Certain stores might overprice stuff, but this was also a time when you could find a lot of games dirt cheap at garage sales and flea markets. Kids from the NES and SNES days were moving out or going to college, so some parents were just trying to get rid of these old games that my kids havent played in years. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran |

The_Popo 03/23/25 8:43:52 PM #26 | Bass posted... Yeah, I can't remember SNES games actually being expensive. Guess I'm too young to remember, but I would think my parents wouldn't have spent that much money on games. I feel like new SNES games had the largest range in pricing. Some new games would be as low as $40, possibly a little less. Some games would be as high as $80 by me (Ive heard of others paying even more for some games). Most I ever remember paying was $75 for either Street Fighter II Turbo or Super Street Fighter II - I dont remember which version it was. Considering inflation over the years, the retail price for new games has been at an all time low in modern times. archizzy posted... It's one of the reason why I think it is funny when people right now say gaming is expensive when gaming is so much better, games have so much more content, take so much more money to make, and they go on sale quick as hell even if you don't want to pay full price. This is always the biggest shocker to me. I rarely buy games right away anymore. Wait a few months and a $60-70 game will be $20-30. The only real concern is if you wait too long and a game suddenly jumps in price due to it going out of print. Although this is alleviated to a degree these days with digital purchases. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran |

Up until 2020, me and a group of like 5-10 friends (it varied each year) would get together for Arnold Day. We would basically setup a planned day of watching Arnold movies from 9am-midnight. The movies were planned in advance, along with when the showtimes would start, and it was just a day of drinking a ton of booze, eating like crap, watching Arnold movies, and typically losing our voices due to screaming Arnie one-liners. It was great. We would typically have social drinks, where wed all drink together after Arnold said a particularly memorable line (Commando was full o them). Only rule was the same movies couldnt be shown in consecutive years. Sadly, 2020 was the last year we did it Arnold Day X. We did it like 1-2 weeks before Covid shut everything down. Vince McMahon stepped down from the WWE board prior to the TKO merger. While he didnt own a 50% majority in WWE, the shares that he owned granted him with 10 votes for every share, whereas the average shareholder still had 1 vote per share owned. With regards to company voting, he had the power to still make all decisions for the company. So when he decided he wanted back in, he simply made sure he had people on the WWE board who would vote him back in Does Elon have power like that within his own company?
