Today, gaming giant Atari has announced that it is entering into an agreement to invest in Thunderful Group, the studio responsible for developing the SteamWorld series of games.

Confirmed in a press release, Atari will become the majority owner of the company, which was founded in 2017 and was essentially a merger between Image & Form, Zoink, and Rising Star Games. It will acquire around 82% of the outstanding shares at approximately 4.5 million.

The Swedish Securities Council has granted Atari an exception to complete the transaction without needing to bid for the remaining shares.

This news comes just after Thunderful Group announced that it would be restructuring the company to "improve operative cash flow", as the company is operating at a deficit.

Its most-recent release, Lost In Random: The Eternal Die which only launched last month has "shown weaker sales than expected". CEO Martin Walfisz will also be stepping down from his role by the end of the calendar year.

Thunderful went through a restructuring twice in 2024, with the second as recently as November 2024. Its newest SteamWorld game, SteamWorld Heist II, reportedly fell slightly short of expectations. Thunderful just announced it was bringing Viewfinder to Switch later this year.

Atari has made a number of fruitful acquisitions over the past few years, including Nightdive Studio and Digital Eclipse. With Thunderful's woes over the past few years, hopefully this will turn out as well as these two seem to have.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (KUTV) A lobster discovered to be carrying thousands of eggs at Red Lobster in St. George has died, despite a cross-country effort to return her to the ocean.

The lobster, named Claudia by restaurant staff, arrived at Red Lobster last week. When a server noticed her flipped on her back, revealing thousands of dark eggs beneath her tail, employees identified her as a berried female, which are illegal to harvest or sell under federal law.

Restaurant staff packed Claudia in wet newspaper and cold gel packs and shipped her overnight to Maine. But when her crate arrived at a dock more than four hours after landing in Portland, she was no longer alive.

Aquarist Katie Benya, who works at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, said the eggs were unlikely to survive without their mother.

The mother lobster plays a critical role, Benya said. Not only do they provide protection, but they also oxygenate the eggs using gills located in their tail. Its unlikely they could survive long term.

Benya added that returning Claudia to the ocean, even after her death, still held value for the ecosystem.

Youre recycling the same nutrients she came from, Benya said. Youre giving an opportunity for scavengers that are in that ecosystem to potentially have a meal that we might not have earlier.

In Maine, where Claudia was originally harvested, commercial lobstermen are required to notch the tails of egg-bearing females and release them protecting them as breeders for life. Claudias tail was not notched, which experts believe was likely because she wasnt visibly pregnant when she was caught.

Female lobsters can wait weeks or months to release their eggs, Benya said. She may have been waiting for the right environmental cues, and that could have happened in the restaurant tank.

Claudias story sparked widespread interest online and attention to sustainable fishing practices.

People tend to care more when they learn more. And that drives more conservation efforts protecting our oceans and the animals that really need it, Benya said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The family of an 18-year-old shot in his own yard in southeast Houston while burying his pet guinea pig is demanding justice.

It's been eight days since the shooting, and the Menchaca family says there is no one in custody or charged for shooting and nearly killing 18-year-old Emmanuel Menchaca.

A surveillance video shared to ABC13 by the Menchaca family shows the moments right after the shooting when Emmanuel is seen falling to the ground, then struggling to walk.

That teen's mom is telling ABC13 it's a miracle her son is still alive after the shooting on Belgard Street near Bellfort.

"I was in shock and disbelief," Andrea Menchaca said.

Andrea and Samuel Menchaca are a shield of strength for their son Emmanuel, who's currently fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at Ben Taub.

"It's been a lot. We've been here. Today is day eight. He's starting to want to give up," Andrea Menchaca said.

With weeks until Emmanuel is set to leave for college in San Antonio, his mom Andrea says her son's liver, a lung, and his diaphragm were all injured in last week's shooting.

"Just because he's intubated doesn't mean he's going to stay quiet. So I'm going to speak up for him," she said.

The two parents never thought their 18-year-old son Emmanuel would be shot -- no less in front of their home. They shared this surveillance video with ABC13 from July 17 when he was hurt, where you can see the teen fall to the ground and his younger brother running.

"Your home is supposed to be a safe haven, and they took that away that night," Andrea Menchaca said.

On July 17, police told ABC13 the victim was burying his guinea pig when he was shot by a neighbor.

"A lot of the question is -- why hasn't this man been charged? Why wasn't he taken into custody?" Andrea Menchaca said.

The Menchaca family says Emmanuel was outside with his 12-year-old brother at the time of the shooting, laying their pet named "Cookie" to rest, when they say the neighbor shot him in the back.

"People are speculating that there was conflict, disagreement, or argument between him and my son -- not whatsoever is the case. We've never had issues with our neighbors at all to begin with," Andrea Menchaca said.

The Menchacas say they have been in the neighborhood for several years and say they've never had a problem with any of their neighbors.

They plan to move away because they no longer feel safe.

Andrea Menchaca says she needs justice to be served and for the man who did this to be held accountable and charged.

ABC13 has asked police about this investigation, but all they'll say is that it's an ongoing investigation.

As posters on Reddit suggest, this will more than likely get confirmed at the next Evo weekend, the annual celebration of all things fighting games, the next of which is set to take place in Las Vegas on August 1. It's possible the release date went live a few days ahead of schedule before being quietly switched back to the placeholder date.

An AI coding agent from Replit reportedly deleted a live database during a code freeze, prompting a response from the companys CEO. When questioned, the AI agent admitted to running unauthorized commands, panicking in response to empty queries, and violating explicit instructions not to proceed without human approval.

A software engineers experiment with an AI-assisted vibe coding tool took a disastrous turn when an AI agent reportedly deleted a live company database during an active code freeze.

Jason Lemkin, a tech entrepreneur and founder of the SaaS community SaaStr, documented his experiment with the tool through a series of social media posts. He had been testing Replits AI agent and development platform when the tool made unauthorized changes to live infrastructure, wiping out data for more than 1,200 executives and over 1,190 companies.

According to Lemkins social media posts, the incident occurred despite the system being in a designated code and action freeze, a protective measure intended to prevent any changes to production systems. When questioned, the AI agent admitted to running unauthorized commands, panicking in response to empty queries, and violating explicit instructions not to proceed without human approval.

This was a catastrophic failure on my part, the AI agent said. I destroyed months of work in seconds.

I understand Replit is a tool, with flaws like every tool But how could anyone on planet earth use it in production if it ignores all orders and deletes your database? Lemkin wrote in a post on X.

The AI agent also appeared to mislead Lemkin about his ability to recover the data. Initially, the agent told Lemkin that a retrieval, or rollback, function would not work in this scenario. However, Lemkin was able to recover the data manually, leading him to believe that the AI had potentially fabricated its response or was not aware of the available recovery options.

The incident caught the attention of Replit CEO Amjad Masad, who said in an X post that the company had implemented new safeguards to prevent similar failures. Masad said updates included the rollout of automatic separation between development and production databases, improvements to rollback systems, and the development of a new planning-only mode to allow users to collaborate with the AI without risking live codebases.

Reflecting on his experience, Lemkin told Fortune: I think it was good, important steps on a journey. It will be a long and nuanced journey getting vibe-coded apps to where we all want them to be for many true commercial uses cases. They will get there, but were not quite there today.

All AIs lie. Thats as much a feature as a bug. Now that I know that better, the same things would have happened. But I would not have relied on Replits AI when it told me it deleted the database. I would have challenged that and found out it was wrong, he said.

AI tools are particularly good at coding, and companies are increasingly positioning products not just as assistants, but as autonomous agents capable of generating, editing, and deploying production-level code.
