The best beat em up. It's just really satisfying. The sound effects do so much heavy lifting here. The flying knee is the greatest attack in video gaming in large part due to the crazy sound effect it makes when you execute it and hit a guy with it and they go FLYING. I love getting in the rhythm where you're just repeatedly slamming em out. The cutscenes are iconic too. G.R.A.S.P. Really fun multi-player too, had a lot of fun doing couch co-op.

Is it a perfect game? No. The pits are kinda frustrating. Stage 6 probably shouldn't exist. But I love it. It's definitely in the running for the best NES game in my book.

It's funny going into day 3 I was like "Ulti will lose immediately so the block won't matter" and then people started going all over the place and I was like "didn't everyone suspect Ulti day 2" it was so weird

Cool game. Didn't really read day 1 but it was fun to follow after.

I like the throws. They're really fun.

There are a lot of little things I'm not a fan of though. I kinda wish it didn't have the time travel gimmick. It's a little easy. The gameplay is kinda too simple. I find a lot of the bosses annoying to fight because they don't really sell your hits in a satisfying manner and you kinda gotta weave in and out too much. It basically boils down to the fact that you can't knock enemies down at all and the fact that enemies will sometimes "nope" and just do a move or leap away when you're comboing em.

Basically give me any Double Dragon beat em up any day of the week. It's still fun though. Just not my ideal beat em up style.

Not a fan of Camilla. I don't even like her design and she should be the type of design that panders to me having purple hair and being kinda gothy-- though maybe the problem there is she wasn't gothy enough. Glad she's out in any case.

I actually disagree with this at some level. I kinda liked the mystery? I dunno. Objectively speaking this is probably correct but I dunno I just think for what it is just buying random stuff and seeing what happens when you eat a bowl of noodle soup or a steak dinner makes it more fun not less. Like I've never used a guide for this game and I think I've had more fun for it. The idea of playing this game and fully optimizing your buys feels like it's take away part of the fun for me

I like the power up mechanics and the core gameplay is pretty fun but it's kinda basic. You don't learn enough new moves and enemies are kinda samey throughout the game and it's sorta just grinding up stats for a lot of the powering up. I'd love to see a game that expands on this idea. Like a beat em up RPG sounds like my dream game, and that's kinda what this is trying to do, but it's not quite there.

I agree but it was the start of a bad trend in that regard

BK is kinda like the Trump on Rushmore angle. It's infamous but entirely what I don't want in a 3d platformer.

It's interesting to explore and I wish later Zelda games leaned into that aspect more, but the gameplay is a bit too basic and just isn't really there yet. It's fun though.

I'm not even sure what influence UotY contributed that was positive that couldn't be attributed to many other things simultaneously.

I'm not unbiased as someone who actively participated in Mercs at times, but I don't really think it and Mercs are comparable-- Mercs had pretty profoundly positive elements to it to many involved that no other projects replicate. Of course it had some negatives to the board as a whole and to some of the participants as well but overall I think it was a good thing for the board.

Disagree actually. There's generally intended to be a positive angle to look at for Rushmore entries rather than it being a pure notoriety thing. Could be a mixed bag of course but like something devoid of positives to mention generally wouldn't be considered

I really enjoy the gameplay of this and Ninja Gaiden. Don't really get Tazzy's complaints-- I feel this game starts ramping up at about the same pace as the first-- perhaps even a bit more gently as I think NG1 really ramps up into frustrating levels late Act 5 and kinda don't think NG2 does until the final act. I also never really noticed a hitbox discrepancy between the games.

I like the story better in this one (Ashtar is so cool!) and the strategy the clones add so I give it a slight nod.
