I think you can use the CD key from physical copies of HL1 to get it on Steam.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained X was pretty good with handing out free stuff, and the fact that they made the story (and Dark Road) available as an offline app after shutdown automatically puts it above just about every other F2P game that's gone down and taken everything with it.

Is there anything specific you're looking for beyond 'first person grid-based dungeon crawler'?

For something that's a bit like the modern Japanese Wizardry games, look at Mary Skelter 2 (which includes a remake of the first game, but the devs recommend playing 2 first). It does have a plot and fixed characters.

For something like old-school Wizardry (that holds to the motto that QOL features are for weaklings), maybe Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar. Haven't played this one myself, but by all accounts it's brutal. Alternatively, the Etrian Odyssey series is a bit more player friendly, and optionally has a plot if you play the remakes of 1&2. The remaster of Bard's Tale Trilogy is also pretty good- the originals are of an age with the original Wizardries, but the remaster cleans it up nicely with decent presentation and (optional) QOL features to make it actually playable.

For something with real-time combat, Legend of Grimrock and its sequel are fantastic.

If I was writing a vampire story, it would turn out that they feared crosses because the progenitor vampire had been crucified as a mortal before being raised as an undead, and the fact that crosses had become religious symbols was pure coincidence.

Started noticing the sound while playing the Valkyrie Elysium demo and worried something had broken inside because I hadn't noticed it in Astro's Playroom, but now I'm wondering if it was always there and had just been masked by all the other sounds going on in AP, while VE is a much quieter game.

Arrowverse? There was a lot of timelines being rewritten, and at least one character (in Batwoman) suffering stuck-in-the-wrong-reality syndrome after the Crisis.

The first two on PC were great. 4 was decent. I hate everything else. Although I should say that's based purely on the solo campaigns, I don't care about multiplayer, and I know that's where the real focus has been... well, since 4, really.

Aliens, but both are basically perfect films for their genres, I'm just more a fan of horror-themed-sci-fi than sci-fi-themed-horror.

If there are any Borderlands (the games) fans left, there's something I've been wondering about Tiny Tina's Wonderlands- does it have a 'real world' story in the same way that Assault on Dragon Keep was really about Tina coming to terms with Roland's death, or is it purely an in-universe B&B game with no subtext about what's going on around the table?

I watched the Director's Cut of Aliens first, and find it really weird that the scene where Ripley finds out about Amanda was left out of the theatrical version. Her mental state, her relationship with Newt, the queen being a personal foil for her, it all ties back to Amanda and I can't imagine how much less impactful it all must be if you don't have that key piece of information that cinemagoers didn't get.

The OutsideXbox crew did a discussion video, and apparently the big reveal mega-plot-twist at the end is that Lilith is a Siren. Which... implies that they're assuming that people going to see this know literally nothing about the games' storyline.

Maybe VtM: Redemption? As I recall, it was a bit more RPG-y than Diablo, but a bit more Diablo-y than a Neverwinter Nights or similar. Can't remember if you got companions or just the (non-customisable) protagonist though.

Well I watched the trailer thinking it was Mufasa who rescued and then adopted Taka/Scar, then read it's the other way around, so my complaint about how all the lions are too similar is even more of an issue than I first thought.

Yeah, the realistic CGI is impressive, but it's also incredibly bland- I need to be able to tell characters apart!

There's a few multiplatform games that have unique content or mechanics on Wii U, mostly relating to the touchpad. I don't think any of them are considered particularly well implemented though, aside from maybe Zombi U.

Sonic Lost World also has two exclusive DLC levels based on Yoshi and Zelda that aren't in other versions.

I think what's going on with Yuna is that part of the dress (I think a poofy sleeve?) blends into the outline of her hair, making it look a lot longer. Either that or it's a veil, maybe?

Forza 4 was the one with the Lego stuff, meaning that's already gone forever, right? Because I always thought the Lego DLC looked great, but I'm not much interested in serious driving sims.

Any of the Battlefields worth getting for campaign/solo-v-bots play?

Sakura Taisen, but that's mostly because I've just been playing it. Under normal circumstances, it would be Panzer Dragoon Saga.

The finale was fun as an episode, but in terms of resolving a myth arc it may be RTD's worst effort yet, and that's a low bar to fall under.

Maybe next series he should just do the setup, then hand it off to someone else to come up with a decent ending.

Just give up and go out of business already, you've been on borrowed time for years now.

And yes, I'm still bitter about them buying out and shutting down all the much better gaming shops until they had a crap monopoly.

The narrator is Amelia Tyler, who played Nyrissa in Kingmaker (and is apparently in WotR as well, but I haven't met her yet). Caused me a moment of confusion at the start of BG3, as I'd only finished Kingmaker the day before and thought Nyrissa had somehow followed me between games.

I started BG3 right after finishing Kingmaker (as in, I completed KM the day before BG3 got its full release), and as soon as the BG3 narrator started speaking, I had a weird moment of "Wait, Nyrissa, what are you still doing here, I finished with you yesterday!"

But it's definitely nice to still have Amelia Tyler's voice around.

I wonder what unwanted tacked-on multiplayer mode they're going to waste resources on instead of remastering Outbreak this time?

Way of the Four Elements monk (D&D5).
Base monk gets bonuses to jumping and movement, which obviously plays into Mario's strengths. Flavour his main unarmed attacks as jumping on the enemy, then Flurry of Blows can be the hammer (based on the DK/Smash animations). Patient Defense could maybe be a shoddy invincibility star.

Four Elements gets you Fang of the Fire Snake and Blade of Rime for Fire/Ice flowers and Ride the Wind for Tanooki Mario.

Too long, probably specifically with a repetitive outro that just keeps going long after the song has basically finished.
